I really love the layered look, and so appreciate your tutorial, including how to make the people....brilliant! However, when i tried this, it became a mess. I struggle with how wet to get the paper, and tried making a similar color for the clouds and it didn't come out as I thought.... So, I will keep trying! And thanks to your tutorials, I'm hoping to get better as time goes by. I just started a couple of weeks ago, so I have to work at it, and be patient! :) Thank you!
@KarenRiceArt
@KarenRiceArt 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Deena, well done for having a go! You have to start somewhere so keep practicing!! Just a note about wetting the paper. Wet it a few times over and over to make sure the water soaks through the paper, mix your colours mixed beforehand or the paper will dry out. Paint on the paper when it has a sheen, not a puddle. Saunders Waterford is a great paper because it stays damp for longer. Hope this helps :)

I’ve just discovered your channel and am loving and learning so much. I’ve been working w acrylics and gouache and now want to learn about watercolor. Two questions- how do you keep your paper from rumpling? I’ve been using a cold pressed watercolor block and still it rumples. When you paint people how do you paint women?
@KarenRiceArt
@KarenRiceArt 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Mary and comment so glad that you like the channel! To answer your two questions, firstly I use a watercolour block 300 g, either Winsor and Newton or Arches, as I find they don’t buckle as much. Your second question, is a much longer answer… So I might do a video on the subject. However, if you are painting small people, either men or women, the proportions will be the same… Possibly the clothes, hair and accessories would be different. Hope this was helpful hope this was helpful? Happy painting :-)

Hello! I liked the way you explained. It makes it easy to follow, step by step. Not all you tubers go into such minor details. Can you please tell me what kind of paintings are best for rough textured water colour paper ? I followed your another landscape tutorial, in which you haven't used rough paper.
@KarenRiceArt
@KarenRiceArt 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment so pleased that you found the tutorial easy to follow with lots of details. Rough paper is very textured so I would suggest painting a very textured rough to rain, landscape or seascape. What are you don't want to do is try to paint a very detailed painting. Are usually use rough or a not surface for my landscapes or seascapes. Hope this is helpful happy painting :-)

I've only been painting for a couple of months and this is exactly the sort of lesson I've been looking for! I love your work but am finding a lot of your videos are a bit tricky for me still. Which other ones would you recommend for an absolute beginner who couldn't draw, paint or anything 3 months ago? And thank you for sharing your skills - it's very generous of you.

What a wonderful video for beginners. Do you know what W&N colours are the nearest to the paints you have used? Thank you.

Thank you so much Peter I’m glad that you found the video useful especially for beginners. You could use Indigo or Paynes Grey and Winsor Orange watercolour in the Winsor and Newton range, hope this was helpful. :-)

I just came across your channel and am enjoying it - more importantly, learning. I picked up a paintbrush for the very first time in January. The art world has nothing to fear, but I am having a great time! Thanks for posting and sharing your skills.

Hi, Anne! I would like to know: do you use the hair dry or paper dry naturaly ?
@KarenRiceArt

Thank you for your question Maria, I blow dry when I don't have much time, and let it dry naturally when I do and its better for the painting. Hope this is helpful :-)
