In today's tutorial we're going to walkthrough how to apply compression to a lead vocal. So what does compression DO? Well, as a beginner I think it's important to grasp the concept that a compressor will reduce the variance in audio levels. Or another way to say it is a tool like a compressor can help make inconsistent volume levels more consistent.
This is super helpful when it comes to vocals in particular. We really want to nail down a consistent performance and hear every word. The thing is, vocals are a performance- and over the course of a vocal take you'll see these peaks and valleys in the audio levels. Parts are louder, parts are softer. This is what's called the "dynamic range."
In order to get a consistent lead vocal, we need to tell the dynamic range "Hey! When it gets too loud can you bring it back down please? To match the same level as the quieter parts?" Enter: COMPRESSION. Let's dive in!

Producer arranges the structure of the song. Mixing Engineer makes sure the song is properly mixed (levels are good, vocals are audible and overall balance is achieved). Mastering engineer has one job and that is to achieve maximum loudness of the track. Mixing engineer doesn’t handle the loudness aspect, he just handles the final mix to the mastering engineer who uses Limiters, Clippers, EQ etc. to achieve ideal loudness levels. Sometimes, a producer is also the mixing engineer. Is that true Nathan? I definitely concur what dksd told me about the decisions on producing the album sequencing and mastering engineer now that’s cool 😎.

It is a cohesive collection of songs used to tell a bigger theme or project an overall vibe. Think of an album as a book. And your songs as chapters. Every book has chapters. Every album has songs. Each chapter is different. Each song is different. But the collection of chapters (the collection of songs) is what tells the full story of the book (of the album).It's usually the artist and/or producer who decides the song order and the mastering engineer who does the actual editing and sequencing. In your own words Nathan why the producer decided the song order/sequencing/tracklisting while the mastering engineer does the actual editing and sequencing?

Greatly appreciate that, pumped you're here! This particular plugin is not native to Logic - it's from a company called "iZotope." This compressor is their "Neutron Compressor." But the same concepts apply to Logic's compressors!
