Cuttlefish bone casting is a form of gravity casting and was used thousands of years ago across the Mediterranean and areas that were near the sea or ocean.
The texture obtained from this type of casting is unique and each casting produces a different texture every time.
Andrew Berry shows you how to carve a pattern into a piece of cuttlefish bone and cast a simple design using odd pieces of scrap silver using a minimal amount of cheap equipment.

Didn’t think of this, I’m glad you did I was trying to cast a brass insert as my tungsten carbide wedding ring is to big after some weight loss, I tried casting into plaster of Paris and into some green sand but the molten brass set before it completely filled the mould even though I preheated the green sand till it was glowing 😂

I Made my first 925 necklace pendant diamond shaped it came out pretty good. As soon as I can I’m gonna join at the bench and that I can promise you cause I need all the knowledge I can get and u seem to have it. Thanks for all the videos you’ve done on KZfaq 🙏🏼

Nice to learn new things... however, my mind can't stop comparing the "nice texture" of the cuttlefish with these pesky lines that you actually DON'T want when 3D printing, ending up smoothing most of them. XD

I know this is an old video, but i hardly believe all these cuttlefish are just washed up ashore in perfect condition, waiting to be collected up. They trap, net, or somehow catch them in the wild and kill them. I would discourage people from using theae. Use delft clay, or the other means of casting you mentioned instead. The cuttlefish are one use throw away items, and not worth killing our sea life for our fun and convenience.
