Now that we have all the equipment we need, we can set up a big antenna to capture everything.

A better alternative to the SMA adapter cable would be a 'balun'. This would achieve better results for a thick antenna wire:

The signals at minute mark 4:30 are digital mode signals from several HAM Radio operators who chose to send and receive signals which can be sent and decoded with special software. You can easily decode them with free software: FLdigi, WSJT-X, etc. There are may other digital modes you can also decode as well as translating Morse Code! To make the roll of wire unspool stick a wood dowel through the hole in the center of the spool. Rolls up better.

I enjoy using my RTL-SDRs as much as I can. Here is a Tab off the RTL-SDR.com website (Signal ID Wiki): www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Signal_Identification_Guide. This allows you to hear signals as well as see them in a waterfall display!

Did you clip just the red clip to wire? What did you clip the black wire to?

Red wire goes to the antenna The black wire can also go to a secondary antenna that's parallel or it can go to ground
