I’m a Milwaukee fan boy (40+ years) I’d purchased the M18 hammer drill and impact driver, the hammer drill was impressive about that of the corded drill. Left them behind needed a drill and driver picked up the M12 brand and pricing, I was impressed these will become my primary tools, because of size and weight. FYI I had been using Mikita cordless tools (with a brief stop over at Porter Cable) professionally but after researching and looking at the variety of tools available, went from teal to red.

I definitely have looked at Milwaukee longingly for a long time and so that’s what I chose when I want to dual platform and they are excellent tools. I’ve enjoyed them a lot, but I always stick firm to the studs and duds, I was so disappointed in the Milwaukee M12 right angle drill, so now I like the opportunity to grab from different platforms if a particular tool isn’t up to snuff. I think in Milwaukee, it’s definitely a more rare occurrence but hey it happens. I am super happy that my sponsor has a lot of Milwaukee for sale so I get a lot of fun Milwaukee tools to play with regularly :-)

Been using Roybi for almost 20 years now, except for my referbed 12v Bosch screw driver (You can pry it from my dead cold hands). Last couple of years I've started using Chine's Makita knock offs power tools that use Makita style batteries. Bought an adapter for the Makita to Ryobi and it works great.

I have just about every brand when I look at my tools as a whole, but my cordless are all Ryobi. (I know, the hated platform!) However, they work great for me, and they work great for my woodworking business. And I absolutely love having their fantastic six battery charging station. It takes up a lot less room than all the separate charger bases.

Definitely not hated! Along time ago, I had a Ryobi drill, driver set and a friend of mine who is a contractor laughed at me and called it tinker tools, I really would not say that about this brand today they have some excellent tools in their lineup, I can honestly rave all day about the Brad nailer, and it really is a quality tool that works every time I use it, and I use it daily. It’s actually the one that I reach for all the time as opposed to my Makita nailer‘s, my Makita, Brad nailer that I had had the problem of every single time it was cold, and I was shooting the very first nail it misfired every single time so then I had to get into a habit of grabbing a scrap piece of wood the first time I was gonna shoot a nail so that I didn’t damage my project, now that I have a Ryobi battery it’s definitely freed me up to pick up any of those tools. If I see a really good ones!

I have been Ridgid since they came out with their lithium batteries back in 2005, two years ago I started getting Bosch. They complement each other. I have one adapter to use Bosch batteries with Ridgid tools, already messed up a battery because I left it on the tool too long. Definitely suggest OEM batteries, I learned that with my pro DSLR cameras. Non-OEM anything is just asking for problems, and do not last.

Good to know that you have had a battery mess up from the adapters, I haven’t personally had it happen but know it’s definitely a risk. Totally agree on the OEM, but some people have a completely different take and would rather have 5 $15 batteries that die sometimes, Over 1 overprice 85 etc. I would rather not risk my tool, but I definitely understand their financial logic.

I'm full dewalt, started with the 18v tools and still have them. I use the official dewalt 18v to 20v adapter and now I use all 20v batteries, never had an issue. But might be because its an official adapter vs 3rd party. To my knowledge, dewalt was the only brand to offer an adapter when they moved into lithium ion. Additionally I do use a dewalt to ryobi adapter for their glue gun, cause that's an awesome tool.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
I saw that adapter for Dewalt, that one I wouldn’t have any reservation about using whatsoever because it was the actual manufacturer making it so that across the Dewalt platform you could use anything you wanted. Big +1 for them on that for their customers, they could’ve just made you have different batteries from the money perspective. I agree on the glue gun!

@Bitner Built Woodworking yep big +1 for them indeed. They didn't need to make that adapter and no one else was, but they did. I have 4 now, because I bought one of those tool kits when I was just starting that had a drill, impact, recip, and jigsaw. All of those have adapters and it's great. Still good tools and still work fine. Also agree on the big vs small batteries. I run 2ah on my drills and for small tasks but have a few 4ah for my 20v circ saw, the recip, and jigsaw which need the runtime.

Couldn’t agree more on the Makita nailer. I was almost 100% Makita for 18 volt. Bought the 18 ga brad nailer and it failed out of the gate. Was in the middle of trimming my house after new flooring and ran to HD and got the Ryobi l just to finish the job. 4 years later it works as new. Now I’ve got more that a few bright green tools especially for things that are specialty use or I only need occasionally. Plus Direct Tools Outlet has great sales.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
Right! The nailers are 100% the thing that started me off being all Makita. They have other very good tools, the best palm routers etc but man the nailers. My finish nailer is it gonna be the next to go, , whenever it’s cold and it’s going to make its first fire it always always misfires and leaves the nail halfway out. I know it’s going to do it, so I always shoot a scrap piece of wood first so it doesn’t ruin my project.

@@BitnerBuilt I have the teal 23 ga and it works but doesn’t work with a lot of lengths. I build furniture and don’t use nailers that often except brad and pin nailers. That said, I’ve got about a dozen Makita tools I wouldn’t give up including my first, a 17 year old drill/driver (in white). Plus I love their sub-compacts.

I have 4 platforms now. They are M12/M18, Ridgid 18v and the older DeWalt 12v. My 12v DeWalt I have had 2 batteries out of 4 go bad after 5. years. M18 my first batteries which were 1.5 went dead after about 7 years. Since then buying a few sets and tools with 3 AH M18 those batteries are still working after 10 yrs. I picked up a black Friday M18 6ah set that had a battery die. Milwaukee replaced it after sending it in. I have picked up M18 & M12 Rapid chargers which are an excellent solution to multiple chargers. Every M12 I have bought has a 12v only charger 😮 why not a combo like the 18v kits. Most of my M18 batteries I have gotten with Bare tools. I did get 2 M18 from Safety First. I will say the M18 Compressor is great for my smaller air tools and is quiet. I am now buying Ridgid as well for my impact wrenches, grinders and lights. Have only bought new or Factory blemished to get the Lifetime Service. Thanks for a great insight into non OEM batteries and hacks.

The sponsors deal sounds great and I don't question your motivation but frankly I wonder how the heck do they do that. I m in the uk so can't take advantage and you won't want to go full on fan boy. Suresaftysourcesupply.com can’t compete with one of the big box retailers if they sold the batteries at the same high markup that they do, people would always choose the big name over this random website they’ve never heard of. so he literally only makes a few bucks on each tool sale, so that he can sell as many as possible. Better to sell 1000,000 at a dollar profit then 20 at a $50 profit Kind of mentality. Trust me when I met with the owner for sponsorship. That was the first question I had! I actually purchased a couple items from them first because I found their crazy price through a Google search. But I was very hesitant to do so because it was a website I have never heard of and honestly people have gotten very used to only buying from the big websites that they know. So after I received my tools, I made sure to leave some video reviews on their site, because I wanted people to know that the site was legit, they then reached out to me and we’re like we love your videos in your shop. Could you do more of these for us!

Over here (Netherlands) there are sales regularly where you will get a free battery when buying a tool. But I get that sometimes you just want to get 1 or 2 extra batteries because that just works more efficiently.

Cool to hear from the Netherlands!👍Yea we have those too, but it’s usually only the core tools that you already have in another brand, if you wanted to say, get the Milwaukee M 12 detail sander (several of my friends want it after trying mine) but all of them immediately said oh but I’d have to get batteries etc and those free battery deals are never on the “other” tools, at least here

I appreciate you mentioning the problem with the M12’s….for older people, the struggle to manipulate the release on them is a big hindrance and unless I really want that particular tool, I avoid them in general. I've had Ryobi 18 volt for 20+ years. Until the last couple years, I've had great luck. I have old blue tools from 20 years ago that still work fine and use the new batteries. That's incredible to me. However, over the last two years, I've had a few pretty new batteries just die. I started picking up a few Bauer tools as a result. Partially because they HF store is far closer than Home Depot. I've had great luck with the Bauer 20 volts so far. Take that for what it's worth. On the Ryobi subject, I have some 40 volt tools also. Those batteries are worse. I think they are very temperature sensitive. A family member that keeps them in a hot and cold garage has had worse luck than I have.

That’s great info Rex. When I got into Makita over the past 15 years, majority of those batteries were bought on the early end of that timeframe and I’ve only had one ever die and two of the oldest have a noticeable reduction in how much they hold, so I really can’t say anything bad about that friends batteries from my own experience. I really like hearing about other brands from people who have had them for very long time. See how they hold up!

What I was referring to a size and weight, some beginners get in the habit of only grabbing the biggest, heaviest battery they have every single time, never touch then smaller batteries at all, in reality it’s not necessary a lot of the time. If you’re a tradesmen who’s going to go sink 1000 deck screws sure, but if your having your impact to go do a general repair in your home, or build a small cabinet, grabbing the HO big battery is silly for all the size and weight your carting around.

For a beginner video I was really trying to focus on the fact that beginners just only grab that big heavy high output battery all the time every single time even if you’re just using it to do a minor repair on some thing in your home. when you need it for a high power application absolutely.
