I find the best way to store fresh green wood is to leave it on the tree ;)

Thanks for this video! Just harvested some small logs to carve spoons but I’ve never done it before. I don’t have a shop but I have an unheated shed. Would that be ok to store my carvings and green wood? Thank you so much!

I'm trying to store small dry pieces and small green pieces - just a dozen or so of each. Can I store them together as if they are all green? I have shavings in the bottom of a bin lined with a bin liner, and have all the wood standing up mixed together. Will this keep both the dry and green wood in good condition to carve later? Thank you for your great videos!

Linda from Idaho it won’t do any harm to the dry wood but it is important to change the bags regularly (about once a week) and give the wood an hour or so out in the open to breath and allow surface moisture to evaporate. If you just leave it in the bin/bag permanently the moisture will start to condense and run down the sides then cause rot. Also make sure the bin has a small air gap to allow some of the moisture to escape.

I was more worried about the dry wood pulling the water out of the green wood and making it dry too fast. Thanks for your reply!!

Will the wood dry out if I leave it outside in the winter. 0-40 degrees F?

@ woodcraft hamster, Would applying mineral oil that you use on a wood cutting board help to prevent cracking and splitting?
@WoodcraftHamster4 жыл бұрын
Winner's Creed not really as the oil creates a moisture barrier which traps it inside the wood. Once this happens the wood will slowly rot from the inside. I’ve always found the most reliable way is to control how fast the wood dries though even this isn’t a guarantee
