The cause of Behçet's disease is still unknown but there is plenty of medical knowledge about this condition that allows for comprehensive management. While it's unfortunately incurable there is also space for a positive prognosis, too.
Professor Robert Moots, an internationally renowned and award-winning consultant rheumatologist and rheumatology professor, speaks to Top Doctors about the facts that can be used to approach and treat Behçet's in a confident, decisive way.

Thank you. I have been affected by Behçets since childhood (only diagnosed at age 41). I live in Eastern Canada and it's exceptionally rare here.

been a while since I got mouth ulcers. i self diagnosed myself and went to see a rheumatologist to confirm, and yes i do have this disease. the drugs help, the steroid helps. but the real key to be better is to change your lifestyle. sleep well, eat well and rest well. and the most important of all, manage your stress.

Thank you for this, we can barely find new videos giving updates or talkin about this horrible disease. Please What about the side effects of the medication, dont they cause as much harm as the disease itself ? I hope there will be really extensive research about behcet to reach out to tests or a treatment that would stop it from spreading. It s just horrible and hard to accept it

Unfortunately there is no researches and no specific treatments for this awful disease and guess what? Almost all meds used in a desperate try to keep it under control are off label means they aren’t actually approved or manufactured specifically for it but for other autoimmune diseases. They put the patients on prednisone for long long time claiming they try to control the inflammation and they cause the patients to have new side effects which maybe as serious as Behçet’s itself is as well as induced diseases including diabetes, blood pressure , glaucoma etc. not to mention that cortisone destroys the joints and it causes bone avascular necrosis which means death of bone tissues. That’s not enough they add immunosuppressants that make the patient subject to all types of infections, many types of cancer and possible suppression of bone marrow so they kill the patient who is already being killed by the disease itself. Sorry to be that pessimistic but management of Behçet’s disease is a complete failure and they should be ashamed and stop talking about anything called treatment of Behçet’s disease because there is actually no treatment for it.

Is chronic mouth ulcers a local problem or can it also cause chronic fatigue?
@susanhutchins

Personally, I've always had chronic fatigue, especially when an outbreak of ulcers happens. I believe (in my experience) that the two go hand-in-hand, but my Rheum won't really comment on it. I know myself and how I feel, so that's what I go with, whether or not I'm diagnosed with CFS.

And does colchicine sound like the right drug for behcets
@alyassery11

It is not. It only help with the mouth ulcers and causes tons of stomach issues. Actually doctors have no clue how to treat it. Steroids damage the body so badly. Immunosuppressive drugs do harm the body as well. The whole treatment is based on trial and error because they don't know what they are actually dealing with. Researchers don't even bother themselves to consider this disease. Pharmaceutical companies aren't interested because they don't have millions of patients with this disease.

I've been on colchicine since 2018 - i think it helped. I don't have episodes unless I'm really really stressed and/or not taking care of myself. (some side effects of it suck tho at first)

@@nicoled6477Colchicine helps with mouth ulcers and to some extent for joint pain " for some patients" but it does little to nothing to the more serious manifestations of the disease.

This is an incredibly ignorant comment. They should be talking about it. Awareness is key to getting an appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Imagine all the people that would suffer needlessly if professionals didn’t speak out about this disease! I am a physician myself and it took years to get a diagnosis and treatment because of a lack of awareness even among most physicians. It is manageable and to give such hopeless statements as you are is a slap in the face to patients and doctors alike. Take your ignorance elsewhere.
