Michael Jackson's 1979 smash hit, 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough', redefined his solo career and clearly signified the beginnings of Jackson's pop domination in the coming years. It was his first solo effort where he had full creative control and separated himself away from 'The Jacksons' and his childhood superstardom.
This is the story behind the inspiration, production and commercial reaction to one of pop history’s most iconic music releases. Michael Jackson’s 1979 hit, ‘Don't Stop Til You Get Enough’.

That song proved that Michael Jackson was more than just a child star with the Jackson 5. It not only established his status as a solo artist, it redefined his music career that will lead to more great things further on, most notably Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and Invincible.

Yep, and then unfortunately, after Thriller, the jealousy set in and the establishment turned on MJ: "The moment Thriller became the biggest selling album of all time - I beat Elvis's record, I beat The Beatles record - overnight, they called me a "freak", they called me a "homosexual", they called me a "child molester", they said I bleached my skin, they did everything they could to turn the public against me. This was all a complete, complete conspiracy, you must know that" --- Michael Jackson, Harlem speech, 2002

Michael Jackson is one of the main reasons why my college years were so awesome! We're exactly the same age so I practically grew up with him and I've been his biggest fan since I was 11 years old! For about 20 years straight, I made sure that one of his songs was the first song that I heard in the new year! I still listen to his music every single day! And I won't stop because I'll never get enough HeeHee!😁

Michael started really young with his career. I admire all his songs, his looks, his style of clothing, his soft personality. I hated the time when the media tried to break him. All of his accusers are liars, perjurers, invented stories, they had a shady and bad character. I'm sorry for Michael that he had to endure all their torture for money. I'm so sick and tired of all those people who wanted to extort money from him, that has to stop. Leaving Neverland is full of lies. Why won't they let him rest in peace. It's because of money, as if Evan Chandler really cursed him. He was very emotional and compassionate! That is what I really like about him. He wanted a regular life with a wife and kids. But the universe gave him to us! to 6.5 billions of fans!

I remember hearing the record for the first time on BBC Radio 1. The sheer energy and excitement it generated was so infectious. It was heard on constant rotation and was a massive hit in the disco's. No one could've predicted the amazingly creative yet bonkers record breaking career that was launched by this first solo record as an adult performer.
@MrLp1980

This really should be his signature song. It was his breakout album and this song was the biggest hit from the album. Michael was child star and needed to prove he can be and adult star. Without the success of this album we don’t get Thriller, bad, dangerous, or history. He never becomes the king of pop.

@@oinkoink4407 1995 onwards he started looking that way. 80s, the androgynous thing was everywhere, such as David Bowie, Eurythmics, etc. I wouldn't describe him as that as a sum up. The guy had swag
@oinkoink4407
@oinkoink4407 2 жыл бұрын
@@turbulonTV no one said he didn't have swag, they're just saying he had an androgynous charm to him. in my opinion, his androgynous look started in 'bad' era, which is one of my favorite looks on him. of course that isn't all he is, but i think it's an accurate descriptive word to apply to his outward appearance and even things like his voice and mannerisms. i feel like some people are hesitant to call them that because they view femininity as a bad thing for a man to have, but it's not, and it doesnt mean hes not masculine either. the point is that he's BOTH (andro + gyn literally means masculine + feminine) and like i said before, it's a part of what makes him so attractive and admirable to me and many others. in fact im like 99.9999% sure that he's the reason for my taste in men now since i was introduced to him at such a young age lol
@turbulonTV
@turbulonTV 2 жыл бұрын
@@oinkoink4407 the guy had swag as in he had a black motown attitude, inspired by James Brown with fierce funky firey voice. That was his go to style. His dance influenced by the streets. All that high pitch voice, different styles from bad with 80s gangs and ghettos, 90s rock, etc is all part of the art. I was there during those eras, so don't worry. He was a pretty boy that girls tend to love just like boy bands. The word "androgynous" is a modern buzz word thrown around a lot lately to describe (in this case) a artist who most likely wouldn't have agreed and was about his art and music. I, myself, don't feel this way or that way about anything other than what I initially said and focusing on what actually is. Again, I disagree with the description given to him.

The original first line of the chorus, which can be heard on the released demo version of the song, was "Keep up with your heart, don't stop". This sounds a bit like "Keep up, when you're hard, don't stop", which can be interpreted as a sexual reference. This explains why Jackson's mother objected to the lyric, and it was changed to "Keep up with the force, don't stop".

Obviously I wasn't there from the first time when Michael performed as a child, but seeing from the beginning when the Jackson 5 started Michael stood out. They were all stars no disrespect to his brothers they were all pushed to the limits. But Michael was obviously expected to be the meal ticket, and that's exactly what he did. Once he broke the chains of his father Michael became and will always be the King of Pop. We will never see another that will match this man. He was born a natural talent. His singing, his dancing, his overall talent was from him, and him only. I miss you Michael the world was a better place with you here. I'm glad you paved the way for Janet, Janet was strong, independent woman again I wasn't there I think you paved the way for your sister, and artist back then, during, and even now.. Also, the fact that he did wear makeup like eyeliner since it was a trend back in the day with artists anyways. However, he didn’t look androgynous in physical traits. You can obviously tell he is a man lmao unlike writer Gabby Dunn or actress Tilda Swinton.

Yo, no joking around, the hardest job I ever had was being Michael Jackson and, also, writing and singing 'Don't Stop Till' You Get Enough' really took it out of us . Shut-up... I can hear you-you know? That was totally out of order.. you're just a kid, what would you know ?

It was also noted tht Michael got the idea of tht song from Marvin Gayes song "Got to give it up".From the falsetto to the funky drums. Listen closely to them both.
