Former Patent Examiner Eric Blatt reviewed patent applications at the USPTO for 6 years. Today, he advises emerging companies on intellectual property and strategic transactions as a partner at Scale LLP. One of his specialties is helping startup founders navigate the challenges and opportunities of doing federally funded R&D.
Eric will peel back the curtain on the patent examination process, helping us understand the mindset and motivation of patent examiners. What are they thinking when they receive an application? How much time do they have to review? What can inventors do to win them over? He will share the insights and tips he’s gained from sitting on both sides of the patent prosecution table.

Courtney Laschkewitsch is the Managing Director of Inventors Groups of America (IGA), an organization that was cofounded by leaders of the inventing community in 2017.

Eric's presentation on the patent application process is an important resource for both patent attorneys and patent applicants. Patent attorneys will find Eric's presentation to be a helpful resource for understanding the patent process and developing strategies for their clients. Patent applicants will greatly benefit from Eric's presentation, Eric's presentation provides a unique perspective on the process from someone who has been on both sides of the table, as it provides a realistic overview of the patent process and tips for drafting strong patent applications. The KZfaq algorithms are deficient in not recognizing the great value of Eric's presentation.

He gave the number of patents that patent examiners are looking at per year: 200 patents - I mean are you also including those coming back and forth during examination process - that would be huge - there is no time for this if you are expected to look at 200 patents per year. it is insane.
