There are two VCA modules in the 2500 series : the 1006 "FiltAmp" (for audio signals only, and it is also a filter) and the 1005 "ModAmp" (for both audio and control signals, and it is also a ring modulator). So if you want to modulate the amount of a modulation, the 1005 ModAmp is the right module. Example : you want to modulate something with an enveloppe, but with a random amount of that enveloppe. To do this, you send the ADSR output into the ModAmp "A" input, and the output of, say, a 1036 S&H, into the ModAmp "CV" input. The output of the ModAmp will be the enveloppe multiplied by a random voltage. The ModAmp is the module i use the most, because it can do quite a lot of useful things (offset generator, inverter, two-stage VCA...). But of course if you are using modules of other brands, these functions can achieved with smaller modules : here i'm using only 2500 modules « as an exercise ».

I do have a some cases filled with plenty of utilities and plenty of vcas, however, as an exercise I enjoy piecing systems together (like the System 100 or Intellijel) and forcing myself to use only those modules. The 2500 series seems to have a very unique experience and looks fun to explore.
