The 1047s are Karplus Strong sinewave oscillators, right? Then you're modulating them from oscillators?

Love your 2500 vids! I thinking of getting the full system. what would you recommend purchasing besides an extra oscillator for a small system?
@lnefpdКүн бұрын
As there are no separate outputs for the different wave shapes, you may consider (at least) three oscillators (1004). For instance : one for the main audio source, one for an audio-rate modulation source (to do FM or ring modulation) or for a second audio source (to have detuned oscillators), and the third one for slow-rate modulations (thus a LFO). The two other modules to consider are : - the 1005 ring modulator / vca. It can do quite a number of utility functions : constant voltage generator, inverter, VCA for control signals (the 1006 cannot do that : it is for audio signals only) ; - a second 1006, or a second 1050. There you have a choice : for stereo applications, the output module(s) of the system will probably be a 1050 or two 1006s. If you are using a 1050 as the output module, you may need a second one to mix/sequence other things, such as control signals or clock signals (the 1027, for instance, has many clock outputs). Since all the modules have several modulations input, you can do without mixer, but if you want to replicate the modulation matrix of the original 2500 (where you could mix any number of signals into any input of any module), the 1050 is the best solution (you can mix two groups of 4 signals, or one group of 8 signals with it).

radigue style ...may I ask what prompted you to get a system this large? have you used the 2500 in the past? I wish I could afford the mos lab but may have to go this route..just concerned it doesn't sound like the original
@lnefpd11 күн бұрын
I have never played a real 2500. I wanted a big analog system, and i choose this one, for three reasons (which have become more and more obvious with time) : 1) it looks beautiful (because of the colors, and also because the modules are all designed in the same way), 2) the modules are big (which is also a drawback : the cabinet is full with 'only' 30 modules), so when there is a lot of cables, you still can see quite well what you are doing, 3) there is a kind of minimalism in it which i find inspiring (there are only 9 different modules : that is completely different to a Doepfer system, for instance, where there is much more modules). As for the size, the idea is to experiment what you could *not* do with a real 2500, even the largest setups. For instance experimenting with an absurd number of oscillators, or filters, or sequencers, etc.. (The affordable version of Behringer make the creation of really large setups possible, if you have a little money to spare.) For the sound : it would be quite difficult to compare with a real one, because the components of the few remaining instruments have aged. Furthermore, i'm almost all the time using effects, such as reverb or delay pedals, so the sound is altered, in any case.

How do you keep your cases from falling over? Or is it just careful handling of table, cables and doors?
@lnefpd17 күн бұрын
You can assemble them together : www.modularsquare.com/shop/doepfer/connecteur-droit-a-100mvg-2/ (there are bolt holes at the back of the cabinet for this). It's solid, but it's quite expansive for what it is, i must admit.

I really like this! Great and interesting sounds. Did you build the case yourself? I really like the dimensions and the color tones of the system as a whole. Is it around 154 TE/HP and 9U per case?
@lnefpd20 күн бұрын
The cabinets are two Doepfer «low cost » Monster cases : doepfer.de/a100p_e.htm#A100LMS9 It's 9U (actually : 3 rows of 3U « eurorack » format) by 168 HP. The modules of this series are 16-hp wide, except the mixer which is 24-hp, so you can put 1 mixer + 9 modules per row (with one exception : the noise generator is 14-hp wide).

Awesome! I’ve been considering scooping up the 2500 Series to pair alongside the rest of my cases. Looks like you have many multiples of each. I’m still familiarizing myself with each module’s features, is the ModAmp considered the VCA and if so do you find yourself using it quite a bit or do any of the other modules have built in VCA’s?
@lnefpd28 күн бұрын
There are two VCA modules in the 2500 series : the 1006 "FiltAmp" (for audio signals only, and it is also a filter) and the 1005 "ModAmp" (for both audio and control signals, and it is also a ring modulator). So if you want to modulate the amount of a modulation, the 1005 ModAmp is the right module. Example : you want to modulate something with an enveloppe, but with a random amount of that enveloppe. To do this, you send the ADSR output into the ModAmp "A" input, and the output of, say, a 1036 S&H, into the ModAmp "CV" input. The output of the ModAmp will be the enveloppe multiplied by a random voltage. The ModAmp is the module i use the most, because it can do quite a lot of useful things (offset generator, inverter, two-stage VCA...). But of course if you are using modules of other brands, these functions can achieved with smaller modules : here i'm using only 2500 modules « as an exercise ».
@michaelfaymusic27 күн бұрын
@@lnefpd thank you for the reply. I do have a some cases filled with plenty of utilities and plenty of vcas, however, as an exercise I enjoy piecing systems together (like the System 100 or Intellijel) and forcing myself to use only those modules. The 2500 series seems to have a very unique experience and looks fun to explore.

No quantizer. So you have to spend a little time to « tune » the sequencers when you want a precise series of notes, but anyway, quantization or not, once you add exponential FM the notes cannot stay in tune.

Hello everyone, i have no ModularGrid account, but for those of you who want to see the setup, it is described there : lanuitestfaitepourdormir.org/2500/2500.php (in French, but there are the pictures.) The project would be to double 🙃 the number of modules (i already have the sequencers), but for the months to come i will use the money i have to buy effect pedals. I want to try new reverbs, but they are quite expensive, so it won't be before september i think.
