Dale is an internationally known avalanche and mountain rescue expert who graduated from EHS way back in . . . . Well, let's just say it was a long time ago, back when teenagers could be members of a mountain rescue group. Nearly 40 years later he's still a member of Evergreen's Alpine Rescue Team (ART). Dale turned an avocation into a vocation; a vocation of helping people in the mountains. Dale trains rescuers around the world and has published and presented numerous technical papers and general articles on a diverse range of topics from avalanches, mountain rescue, human factors, risk, to decision-making. Professionally, Dale works for the Swedish rescue company RECCO AB. While he still volunteers with ART, he is also the president of the American Avalanche Association and the vice president of the Avalanche Rescue Commission of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue. From his earliest days with ART, Dale learned to embrace uncertainty, and it is a principle that guides him today.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

4 aspects of being professional: Knowing and Doing and Learning- learn as much as you can. Commit to learning. Yesterday's knowledge is not good enough to solve tomorrow's problem. Not only learn, but also try to use them. that's how knowledge becomes a skill. Helping- being there for people and the community. Make a difference in the lives of people. Offer the considered judgement. Being a professional is a process. It never stops.

I'm working an iso 9001:2018 lead auditor certification from SAE (on nye😅) which highlights the importance evaluating competence. They noted the need for personal behaviors (ethical, open-mindedness, tactfulness, observant, perceptive, versatile, tenacious, decisive, self reliant, acting with fortitude, open to improvement, culturally sensitive,& collaborative) but also underpinned these traits with a need to be professional. You provided a great framework to approach professionalism

pff didn't say anything, in the first part of the video he talks about a "trial" that by not going deeper into that idea is incomplete; ah ok professionals make judgments and these judgments have value (something obvious for a conference right?) he tells us that the professional helps, learns, knows, does (wow, how profound) and finally he talks about when he was young and tries make a poor relationship between how great it was to belong to his club and being a professional. many people have to learn that sometimes they have nothing to say

Emergency professionals often don't dress in the same way as academic or even clinical professionals when they are off. These people also tend to value functionality over aesthetics. Fundamentally when you're directly trying to save somebody's life the last thing that's on your mind is dressing to impress

Its 2021 no reason to out on suits and put on a fake costume to appear more “professional”. As long as you know the profession, and does not offend anyone when working clothes and the way you talk should not matter. Just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

being professional is a hoax :D... these concepts are human created concepts to it. And the idea that this is professionalism differs person to person.
@tomregan6979
@tomregan6979 3 жыл бұрын
But does it differ person to person? In any society, these aspects of being a true 'professional' seems to be the same. Especially in medicine. Knowing, doing, helping, and continued learning. It's amazing that these concepts can be shared by so many different societies. There has to be some fundamental truth to it. We just 'happen' to label it 'professionalism'.
