I"m white but I believe you when you say you've dealt with a lot. I had a good friend who was Jamaican and I was stunned at how racist people were towards him. He was a straight arrow but people (cops and security guards) treated him like he was a criminal. People say Canadians aren't as racist as Americans but I don't believe that. We need more black Canadians to talk about things like this. We need Canadians to wake the hell up and realize that this is a real problem in this country. Hang in there buddy.

We do have Canadians talking about this - I am one of them. It's just that no one is listening or the are in massive denial (multiculturism) or they turn a blind eye to it. Or they believe the racial incidents that occur are isolated incidences.

To all the white people in Canada racism is real and it runs deep telling someone to go back to Africa and telling someone that they're the n word and that they are nothing more than third class citizens when someone tells you that you need to go back to Africa tell them that they should not have invaded your Homeland from which you came and still resources history is filled with evil white people doing things to Africans and I believe that white people need to wake up and see the foolishness of their errors and realize that this is real not just talk about it it's a common known fact that you can't erase white supremacies and a white person who's been taught from infancy to hate by the parents and their family members white people please wake up and see it and get your lives together and not only that open up dialogues get to know people before you become biased.

I never knew how bad racism was in Canada. I love how you explained everything so well, but it's sad to know that it's still happening to this day. I'm black (African) and living in Australia and I have literally been called the N word so many times which makes no sense cause Australia has no affiliation with that word what's so ever. I did a similar video on my channel but I couldn't really say much cause overall racism where I live towards me isn't as bad as many others have it. Just subscribed btw looking forward to more videos like this x

No worries. And I reckon that this "spark" of racism that's been happening lately is just held back hatred whites have always felt towards blacks and its building up with black people now standing up for themselves once again with this whole black lives matter movement. We're silently uniting all around the world, there was actually a few black lives matter protests in Australia which were held by all the black people in Australia including the Aboriginals in support of African Americans.

I find it really hurtful that people don't think that racism is a problem in Canada. When I've described things that people have said to me or the way they've acted, the most common response is "I'm sure they didn't mean it like that" or "I'm sure you are just overthinking it". For me that's usually worse than the thing itself. Thanks for putting together this great video, I hope you make more!

Too many come to Canada and do not accept that Canada is Canada and is not the country that the new comer is from. its a new country..embrace it not try to change it..if you try to change it..then why did you come to Canada in the first place!!

+Scott Mccarthy absolutely correct! This self entitlement that they seem to have is beyond reason. I've traveled to some of these third ass world countries that new comers are from. Certainly is no way like Canada. Treated like less than trash in those countries. I understand that they would want a hand up getting started here in Canada, BUT, there is a world of difference from a one time hand up, to a constant hand out. I Dont think that we or the Government owes these people anything. They need to earn there way and earn respect. I used to give respect until people prove that they are unworthy of my respect. Unfortunately , I now let new comers earn my respect. I am at a loss where they get the attitude that they are better than Canadian born citizens and have more rights then those of us who's families have pioneered this country of Canada into one of the greatest countries in the world. perhaps immigration needs to change many policies and the Canadian citizen needs to treat new comers differently. Scott, if these people get caught doing a crime, they should have their rights to be in Canada taken away! More Canadian Citizens need to speak up for our country and way of life!!

Also, don't be offended when they call you African and when they make fun of Africans. This is one of the reasons some American blacks hate themselves. This is one of the reasons racism is so toxic. It can influence a person to hate themselves because of their race/ethnicity. I'm a native African, and I was made fun of in my American elementary school by both whites and some African Americans. Some white children were kind to me, and some black children were kind to me. You just have to remember that racist people are ignorant. They really do lack adequate educaton about history, and about loving those who are different from them.

They are blissfully ignorant and it's disgusting. I can't count the number of times I've been followed in stores even though I make way above average income and dress very well!! It's the denial of racism existing in Canada by whites that blows my mind. I've tried to explain it to them but they look at me like I'm crazy and playing a victim. Canada is supposed to be such a friendly and accepting country but it's worse than the States.

Jessica, okay, you tell me how would you handle it. I would take it straight to the school principle and tell them that you are being racially harassed by students. Identify the students. Sure the students will deny it, but bring it to the principle puts it on their shoulder to do something about it. Then if the principle does not address it, then the school could be found to support racism and that is when the student can bring a civil suite against the school.

The way we make multiculturalism work in Canada is by sticking to our own group and ignoring other people, or at most being coldly polite if we must interact with them. I live in a place where most people are Polish, Korean or Indian. We nod at each other if we come across, but we don't interact and we seldom know the name of any of the neighbours. It's the sort of system that works great if you're a loner and manage fine being on your own.

First of all, what an a m a z i n g afro of yours, I fell in love with it. Second of all, I am thinking about moving to Canada and got a bit worried about the little number of black people in there, but I swear to you that 85% of what you described I have also gone through here in Brazil, although we are 52% of the population. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to go through that, but I am very admired by how articulated you are about all this (and at such young age!) and how you responded and identified those situations. I took a long time to actually understand that what was being done to me was actually racism and that it was not ok. I wish I could give you a hug and say take good care of yourself. Put yourself first and stand up for yourself and for our people. Those who laugh or do not take your side, they should not have the gift of your friendship, seriously. Surround yourself with good uplifting people who honestly care about you and stand up for you as well, you desearve nothing but goodness. And if our surroundings do not offer us that freely I guess my way out was creating a safe space for myself. We are lovely and desearve to be treated as human beings, with respect. That's the minimum. Well I just liked to say overall that I really liked your video and respect your courage to stand up and talk about your story, I hope you keep doing more videos and that we can get to know you better! I think they're mostly ignorant because slavery wasn't in Canada for so long like the US and the rest of the World and about less than a million black people are in Canada so some have never even seen a black and are curious. Also, some of the stuff you find racist a Jamaican born person wouldn't find insulting because our culture is made of mocking each other but its out of pure love NB: If they tell you to go back to Africa tell them to go back to Europe or whichever country their ancestors are from.Africa would accept us in open arms but Europe/wherever wouldn't take them in fact they would say go back to Canada!

My nephew's go to school in downtown Toronto and they're facing the same issues. It's really messed up. When I moved to the states black kids used to tease me all the time and funny enough white teachers actually defended me. It's only when I moved to Ghana that I felt a sense of self worth. Stay strong and when you're old enough leave that place because as much as you can try and deal with it there's always the chance that they'll take it physical.

Boy! I can't imagine what this kid has gone through all his life. He is a tough boy. Now, I wonder why some parents would torture a kid this way by making him grow up in an all white environment. I just don't get it. Of course he would experience racism because racism is white culture. I believe black people should raise their kids in more diverse environments like in Toronto or bigger cities. Experiences like these could damage a child mentally and emotionally. My young friend, don't be apologetic for being black. And there is nothing wrong in being African. Being African is not an insult; it is just another continent where black people are. Stay focussed, finish school and go to college in a diverse city, not an all white town. You'll look back one day and be proud of yourself. Cheers buddy

Don't laugh at their jokes, you'll encourage bad behaviour. Just know that the population of black people is increasing and with that comes gradual change. More black people as police officers, teachers, managers etc. My advice to you is to move from your current city when you're old enough. I love the ending. This is the basis of racism for white people. It boils down to the amount of melanin someone has. A genetic switch that is turned on or off (how a scientist explained it). You have no control over that genetic switch and white people act like you chose to be darker skin. No, it's not my choice but I love my dark complexion the same one white people try so hard to get in the summer. I wouldn't change my skin tone for anything and if I had to choose I would choose to be darker skin. I love melanin!!!!

Nah.. racist partys are getting a lot of support and they almost won. Nobody likes to admit it, but a big amount of the population is racist and want to get rid of all "Foreigners" and "Immigrants" (basically all muslims, black people, etc.) And they don't care if you actually were born and raised in this country, you only have to wear a headscarf or have a migrant background (having a tan/deep skin tone) to be judged in society as an terrorist, gangster, poor, etc. My real life experience: I was in the bus, meeting my best friend for shopping. The bus was filled with people and I was standing next to an old lady. She pulled me hair and aggressively told me that "she doesn't wants my hair touching her jacket". I was very hurt because I never wear my hair open and I cried when I got out of the bus. Ask a Latino, muslim or a black person if they ever got followed while shopping because people think they're stealing or ge generally treated differently as others. So my conclusion: No, Europe isn't better in any way than the US or Canada.

And all I can say is that I don't know how I will able to survive living in other provinces in Canada if the majority of whites won't accept other minorities who were born here or are migrating to come to Canada. People are saying Canada is not racist and are very welcoming to all races don't see the bigger picture. 😞 *Edit: I'm going to share this video to anyone who is planning to move into a rural area in any province here in Canada, to know that "racism" does exist in today's world, and that we should not turn a blind eye!!

What part of Canada you live in bud? Well as an Asian i have experienced alot of name calling when was in elementary here in Vancouver, then a crew of us stuck together and when we hit high school we made a stand and actually got back at every single bully, tracked em down every high school they gone to and caught up to em for fades. Now in Vancouver we known as crazy nammers and no more name calling, but i have friends from all culture and race. The racists came from all background as well that I dealt with. So i think its more just certain individuals insecurities more than an actual race that's racists. Not saying you should get violent like me and my bros did, is cus we didnt have a choice growing up in the 90s things were more ignorant n tougher. What i mean is there gona be racist in all backgrounds and friends from all back grounds so just stick to those u have same goals with, need a crew noone can survive on they own and be loyal to each other always stronger that way, and make a stand it will stop once u have crew together. You will figure out who is real to u n not quickly and seperate yourselves, then just live ur life as a stand up person, when in the right fight to the end its worth it. Peace.

Having lived in US and Canada. Here is the difference between the two places from an educated, middle class colored person's perspective. In US (I have lived in CA and NY so can't speak for other places) the number of racist people is very small maybe 5% but bcoz it is more violent society with gun culture and bad neighborhoods, if you are at the wrong place and wrong time ppl will call you names, they will abuse you, it can even be violent and life threatening. But those kind of activities also make it to the news and cops and America is therefore more infamous so American racism is noticed more and there is more public discussion on it. As a proportion of population Canadians are way more racist maybe 70% (based on my experience and those around me) and it is everywhere but they cloak it very well. More importantly all of their racism is executed in a way that is legally acceptable and not criminal (they have even invented a new term for it in Canada. Because "Canadians are not racist like Americans" what they do is systemic discrimination. So just suck it up and take it. They pretend it doesn't exist. There is no public discussion. If you do bring up the topic they will give you a cold dirty stare and ignore or tell you why don't you go back where you came from (or to your shithole) (notwithstanding many ppl of color were born here) 1. Good things first. bcoz Canada doesn't have gun culture or much violence there is very little likelihood of being shot for "wrong place wrong time scenario" but that holds true for all crimes not just race based but thats where the good thins pretty much end. 2. In Canada generally the racism is not directed as a "black-white" phenomenon but "we are British we are superior" phenomenon. Most Canadians have never grown over the colonial hangover. They still believe and say it in so many ways that they are a superior culture (although whatever little economy Canada has runs on American jobs, rich immigrants from China and India and native resources so I don't understand why they are so pro UK a country that treated their own French Canadians and natives very badly). Local economy is almost non existent except for public sector gravy train that employs "real Canadians". Anyways coming to the race issue. The net effect on the colored person is still the same. the worst sufferers are the natives who have 30% suicide rate and live in tents in sub zero temperatures in Ontario's north (while all the money generated from selling native resources" is consumed by the "socialist" government in Ontario). 3. In US if you can avoid some neighborhoods during certain hours you will not even see the racists. In Canada they are everywhere. When walking on road expect cold rude dirty stare or total ignore if you are colored (while it is easy to strike a conversation or exchange smile with Americans, Canadians are proudly British and therefore much more cold and rude to people of color). If you are a tourist/ white person they will be nice though. So generally to understand subtleties of Canadian racism you have to be here for a few months to realize the different treatment. 4. Be careful about little things like the bar you choose or the places you go to. While it is easy to find a lot of places run by different ethnicities in Toronto, the "exclusive" ones are particularly discriminating to colored ppl. Expect different behavior based on skin color and pretend. Pretension is the most important Canadian attribute. There are a couple places in Yorkville and near Air Canada center that will try "dress code" "shoes" or "its a private party" excuse to not let you in although they will never tell you to your face that you can't get in bcoz of your skin color. 5. In US if you have it in you you can become the CEO of Microsoft and Google without any fuss. In Canada racism is VERY RAMPANT in employment situations. To be fair to Canadians, Canada hardly has any economy. There are all of 6 banks, 3-4 telecom companies, Bombardier, SNC Lavlin, 4-5 big retailers and thats that. Canada takes 400000 immigrants a year. That means more than 1000 a day. In addition it takes 300000 students, 100000 temporary professionals and has a 36 million domestic population growing at 1 %. All this means it should generate around 3000 jobs a day. Canada doesn't even generate a 100th of that number. Hence the competition for whatever little service positions are there is fierce. Almost always if you are not white Canadian you will never make it to the position of a director or above. In most cases you will end up being security guard, driver or one of the smaller vocations. 6. Because Canada is a socialist state and has an aging population and birth rate is 1% they need young taxpayers to pay for all the socialism. Also Canadian economy is hardly growing (1-2% for last 8-9 years). Much of this growth comes from immigrants coming in with their life's savings and buying houses, durables etc. Immigrants also are a big customer base for hotel, tourism etc. Immigrants are also big reason for Canada's BIG PUBLIC SECTOR unions to keep asking for tax payer money (as more immigrants mean more language services, more childcare, more schools etc). So here is the strategy Canada has adapted. There is a big immigration industry consisting of real estate, bankers, hotels, unions and other interest groups that make tall claims about how Canada is the best place to live etc. Canadian politicians make trip of other countries every few months telling false stories and inviting rich young people to Canada. Once you are here, given the weather you will have to spend your life's savings very quickly to get a house, durables etc. Your money will then be used to run their economy and pay their taxes to run their socialist state. If you don't like it (70% of the skilled immigrants go back)you go back (Canada is a net gainer as your money has already been used)and they take in more. 6. Almost everyone who will tell you Canada is not racist will be a white Canadian, colored person who has never lived outside Canada and hence has no way to compare, refugees. Just get the white man out the door build a little trust and every colored person will burst open like a dam.

Canada is MUCH more racist than the USA. For you to speculate the USA is more racist is very common for Canadians of all skin colors due to Canadian propaganda. It seems that BOTH me and Riddhm have lived in both countries for MANY years as adults - hence a more genuine insight into the differences. I just don't have time to articulate as thoroughly as he has BUT I certainly could!

first you say "your not African" but then you say you're Jamaican. Jamaicans are descended from Africa, they have either fully or mostly African blood. So you are African! I find it amusing when a black person says there not African. it's the worst place in the world for many people sadly. but denying your roots when you clearly are that, is quite embarrassing!

Fan Gad he's not African ... he's Jamaican.. that's totally different. Ethiopians are totally different. You Eurocentric idiots kill me lol .it's ok because In thousand years you all will be gone anyway. Africa is a continent just like a America isn't a continent dumb ass lol . No one calls your idiots North Americas lol. Dude just shut up and watch another video lol . He's Jamaican and since he probably doesn't know where his ancestors came from , that's why you idiot Eurocentric idiots call him African .. but in my country we call him by his nationality you idiot . Just like we don't call you cavemen all white , we call you by your nation. Just watch the world games maybe you can comprehend sports .. I mean you all play sports right ? Lol

BLvck DHVrmV ''he's not African....he's Jamacian??'' You sound stupid as fuck. Jamaicans are also black, so they have African DNA. who the fuck is native to Caribbean islands. that's right nobody. Africans immigrated to there. What's funny is, While he's saying ''I'm not African.'' African blood is running through his veins. the fact that it was thousands of years ago doesn't change his blood/genetics. ''Africa is a continent just like America is'. no shit genius a 9 yr old would know that. ''that's why you idiot Eurocentric idiots call him African''. so it's a ''hate crime'' to call him African, what's so wrong with being African. he obviously is, which is even more embarrassing while he denies it. Your loling about absolutely nothing, you seriously believe he isn't African because of ''birthplace'' and a conquered island which is embarrassing! ''No one calls your idiots North Americas??'' lol. that made no sense at all, you were seriously dropped as a child. I mean seriously wtf in America people always identify with heritage it's one of the most common things e.g American of Dutch, Swedish, French, German, English etc Your statements sound retarded God damn it, think before you talk or do some research first, you tool!

I used to get teased all the time. Then I learned two things. The first thing was, that people who hate others really don't like themselves. People may direct their negative comments at us, but it really reflects how they felt about themselves. The second thing was that the more insecure I felt, the more intensely I felt the harrassment. There is a saying: "Hurt people, hurt people" (unknown author). This is so true. When you feel good about yourself and are filled with love and kindness, you dont need to spend your time trying to make others feel bad. In fact, you want everyone to feel as good as you. Those people who called you names and pulled your hair were/are jealous of you. Besides the fact that you have a beautiful head of hair, they saw/see something in you. Instead of appreciating your fine qualities, they seek to destroy them. But they can only do that if you let them. In the final analysis, its not really about the hair or the way we look. Its about learning to accept ourselves and others as we are. We all have the right to be treated with dignity and kindness. That is our right as human beings. Do you understand what I'm saying? It is our right as a human to be treated with kindness and respect. If others do not share that belief and treat us abusively, it reflects on them, not on us. Ross Rosenberg says on his youtube channel to: "Observe don't absorb!" Which means to look at what they do or say, but don't take it into our heart. Don't be like a sponge, don't absorb all their negative energy. If we develop self esteem, their insults will no longer hurt us. Even if they call us the N word, we wont be affected negatively, because we appreciate our african heritage. They can't take away our pride and our dignity unless we let them. They just make themselves look bad!

This really hurt to watch... it reminded me of all the times I was bullied... I live in the middle east and sad to say that racism exists here against black people too, I was bullied a lot at school and was traumatized by it.... No actually what really blew my mind was that there is racism in AFRICA too, lighter skin Africans are racist to darker skin Africans.... Racism is literally everywhere in this world, it never ends... You just gotta be stronger to face it... I hope you're doing well dear.

i hate this so much... How can the world be so cruel. I was so exited to move to Canada within the next few months with my sister for better education and for my family in general. I wanted to move to the city of London, Ontario very close in fact to where you live. Right now all my hopes and dreams of going to the place where I longed for so long to go are crushed to pieces. I do realize racism is all over the world but I sincerely thought Canada wouldn't be the worst. I am not black certainly I am mixed but what matters living in a place just for education where constant hatred is displayed all over me my family and others? I couldnt bear to watch that. Thank you for the video, I really opened my eyes and I hope the best for you!
