That promise is everlasting life for everyone who believes in Him. We’re either righteous on our own by being sinless, or we’re unrighteous on our own by just one sin. yes! and it important to realize God's word is complete. Nothing fancy needs to be added to it to make it sparkle. It takes away the glory from god when he waters down sin. A pastor's responsibility is to provide leadership to his congregation, interpret/teach ALL bibical scriptures with authority (seemingly good and bad) to warn people of sin, etc... God is love, but He's also a God of judgement.

So I preach and teach on what I understand most. For example, I stay away from teaching about end-times and revelations topics because I don't yet have an understanding of it yet. Osteen said many times that he does not understand it all so he sticks with what he does know best. This is fine for me. But I do agree and feel he should talk more about sin and salvation in his sermons because he is a pastor who understands these basic topics of confession of sin, repentance and salvation from sin through Jesus.

Pianoman 70s style Exactly, and in Pastor Joel's defense, I empathize that he may get intimidated being put into a box like this, having others call him out for not preaching that "homosexuality is a sin." I'm 21, and have been a Christian nearly all my life thus far, have cerebral palsy, and recently came out as bi-romantic last year, which has shocked many of my fellow Christian friends, and plenty of fierce theological argumentation. He doesn't want to judge because he feels that it is not his place to call out certain groups of people as 'sinners' since, technically speaking, EVERYONE SINS in some way, big or small. What so many critics tend to ignore is that the Scriptures also say plenty of stuff about heterosexual lust, marriage and adultery, but straight people tend to build up fences too and say, "I was born straight, so all of this behavior is sort of okay..." I tend to rebut with, "Well, if you are also a Bible-believing Christian, and you believe every word in this book is God's final and authoritative Word, then we are equally sinners according to all of these passages." Believing that Jesus is the Son of God, and your Savior doesn't mean that I'm ANY BETTER than any non-Christian, and it certainly does not mean I stop sinning. It just means He loves me unconditionally even when I do, whether I mean to or not. This is why I now open up my arms to my fellow gay and bi Christian brothers and sisters, because they wish to be understood and loved as well. And I love Pastor Osteen's messages of hope and reconciliation too! I've also taken comparative religious studies classes here in college, and love to talk to non-Christians about faith, starting from a common ground and working our way out. Josh Chen Josh, you made a great point about them wanting to brow beat the preacher about calling homosexuality a sin, but not wanting to have him call out people on lust, adultery and non-marital sex. It's always nice to get the preacher to go crazy on a sin that you aren't personally involved in. Just makes you feel so much better. I have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy too. You really can't see it, in my case, to look at me, but it does make it difficult for me to sustain fast motions when I play the piano.

Pianoman 70s style Well, good meeting you here sir! I have spastic diplegia, and hemiplegia which affects the right side of my body, but I can walk, praise God. As a kid, I grew up learning homosexuality's a sin too, and a social taboo, but started developing and hiding my same-sex affections in middle school. Finally taking that step and coming out myself last year has been a very brave step for me personally, but as you can imagine, I have received plenty of criticism for my confession as well, ESPECIALLY from most of my Christian friends, who state it's against the Bible. To be very honest with you sir, I am sick and tired of arguing about the issue. I just wanna hug gay people if they need a hug and a shoulder to cry on. On occasion, I go to my gay Christian friends for advice on whether I should find and date a boyfriend or not, and if my affections count as sin or not too. It's still all really confusing... I agree. I also think they're trying to accept so many things about themselves...as if this conversation goes WAY deeper than what we are seeing. They are all in subconscious shock that they need to repent and turn towards Jesus - no matter what they're doing or how they're spending their time. It's true for all of us: repent and yes it IS devastating that we are all sinners but the good news is we are new creatures in Christ. Turn from your old ways and be new in Him. No one wants to hear that though...

People try to stir things up all the time. He thinks its a sin yes. But he "stays in his own lane" saying "They have to work out salvation for themselves" He is not representing Jesus.. he is representing SELF

Pray for Joel's salvation!!!! What have we done! We've made a big mess of the Christian faith. Please pray for me as well, we've all let down the master.

The people that go to his church do not want God... they want what God can give them. They love the prosperity religion Osteen teaches. However I believe no cause is hopeless so I will pray for all the "Christians" that are deceived. Maybe Osteen will get right w/ the Lord after the Rapture??? It would be really weird to think you were going to heaven and be left behind.

Joel Osteen is nothing but a motivational speaker. He doesn't want to step on anyone's toes. Wants to keep ppl coming back so he can make his millions! He's straddling the fence. Lukewarm folks will be spewed from God's mouth! Lukewarm folks will go to hell just the same as a sinner that hasn't been washed in the Blood.
