The plaintiff says she rented a room in the defendants’ house, but they turned out to be real weirdos who made her uncomfortable. She claims they changed the lock on her and they owe her money, so she’s suing. The defendants say the plaintiff broke all the house rules, and he had to change the lock because they didn’t trust her. They’re suing for what that cost them.

well to be fair to the defendant , i researched level 1 sex offender and according to what i found , level 1 is the least serious and it means the person is not likely to be a repeat offender and it mostly includes non violent offenses that are usually not felonies . so in other words a woman can simply make a claim against a man that he touched her inappropriately and if the man fails to get a good lawyer then he can now be listed as a level 1 sex offender because a woman he knew didnt like him - yes this happens .

Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me think offenders can't ever be rehabilitated. Despite being caught, despite being on the registry, he lies about his name, invites a young and naive girl to rent a room, and immediately *before she even moves in* starts testing her defenses to see how far she'll let him go. Then when she's already there, the first time he sees weakness (she was tipsy) he actually tries to have an interaction with her. This man is a predator and a creep, just waiting for the opportunity to strike again and that is so often the case with sexual predators. If the situation arises, they'll take advantage of it without a second thought.

Must? No...Maybe should...If the landlord wants to change the locks they have to put that in the lease. You cannot decide you want to change the locks and then decide to make them pay for it. I know the last place I was in, I was kicked out because the management place said the owner wanted to move back in. I was only there for a year and I would have never moved in if I knew it was for a year. Anyway, I moved to a place that was a half mile away and I had to drive past the old place. One day I see 2 guys walking around the place so I called the management place to let them know because I thought I was being nice. The management place didn't want to give me my deposit back and when we went to court they added in all these charges including changing the locks. They were all thrown out and the judge told them they cannot charge me for changing the locks since I gave them all the keys back. They said they did it because I had moved so close. The judge said so if he moved 20 minutes away instead of 2 minutes you would keep the locks? That's stupid.

This case is exactly what back ground checks are for for both parties entering into a living situation agreement. I have seen worse but yet all can be avoided with around a $20.00 fee to find out who you are really going to be living with. Shame on the mother for not looking out for her 20 y/o daughter getting her first place. I know kids do not like to hear resistance, but that is what being a parent is about sometimes. Safety first, hurt feelings can mend but a situation with probable assault is just being very shortsighted and reckless.

This is why I don't use Craigslist. I don't want to be approached by weirdos and creeps, and I have yet to have heard anything good about Craigslist 🙃😅. I moved out on my own at 20 too and when a man said he was subleasing his house, but I couldn't decorate it and he would be in and out of the house- the situation made me uncomfortable (thinking that a middle age man can come in and out as he pleases- creeped me out) so I said no. This is very common in NY and I prefer to increase my chances of surviving. He sounds like a creep, even wanting to hang out with a tipsy young lady. That sounds like something a sex offender would do. Why would someone want to hang out with a tipsy, underaged drinker at 2am? It's giving ✨sex offender ✨ as well. I'm happy that she got out of there safe. And her mom should've told her that that living situation was far from ideal. Also if she's being so kind to hide what it is that he did, then it must've been something that most people would be uncomfortable with. And for him to hide it, then it must've been bad. My other problem with this is how weirdly obsessive he is about her- wondering where she's at at all times, why her boyfriend is always around, why she's "not being nice", etc. It all gives creep vibes 🙃😒.
