To win big tournaments you need a group of 25 top players and that is always more difficult to achieve for smaller countries, plus you need a dose of luck (10 percent) during the tournament itself. For those who think this is BS, just look up the winners of the EC's and WC's of the past 60 years. For the EC's between 1960 and now only three small countries (population 10.000.000 or less) have ever won the cup. And for the WC's no small countries have ever won the cup. It;s largely a matter of numbers unforntunately for those who are from smaller countries. It's as simple as that.
