And who should decide about that ? And how to make sure not a frivolous figure is put forward ? And who should pay these "reparations" ? What "other complicit European government" ??? And what if governments just kept stumm, but the real purpetrators were contracters for rich companies ? Most Belgians indeed don't feel sorry for things that took place before they were born. Strange, no ? Do the average American feel sorry for the "Indians", the German teenagers for what their grandfathers did... Do the children of the mass murders in Rwanda care ? I mean, it is difficult to feel responsible for something you had no part in. Most Belgians weren't even interested in the Congo when it still was a colony. King Leopold absolutely wanted a colony, it didn't matter where, it could have been China or Bolivia or whatever. But his government wasn't interested at all. And the ordinairy people had other worries in those days. When you're working 12 hours, from your 10th birthday onwards, 6 days a week in a noisy 19 the century textile factory, frankly, you don't give a toss about a far away colony. Only industrial powers (Lever Brothers, Union Minière, Palmafina...) did. And in the 20th century, most Belgians still weren't that interested, nor had they anything to do with whatever attrocities or insults or whatever Lumumba complained about in front of King Baudouin. So.... What the heck is your point ????

Slightly over time, no ? No witnesses, most proof gone, most archives probably cleaned. If you build a wall with 10 % of bricks and 90 % of cement, it doesn't need much force to make it crumble. Same with a juridical process. If you have no witnesses, no relevant forensic facts, no confessions etc., I'm not sure what you want a court of justice for. And suppose, just suppose a name will be dropped, don't you think it will be that of a patsy, or just the executioner, not the powers behind that killing hand ? A waste of time and energy. Sometimes people have to be able to turn the page. Nelson Mandela understood that completely. There were no trials of former BOSS agents, who kept Apartheid in place, threw every now and then a "communist" rebel out of the window of the n-th story of a police building etc. South Africa just moved on. It turned the page. That's the way forward. Not asking millions or billions. Never forget, but still, just let it rest and move forward. If it's all about money, don't expect the average Belgian to sympathise with such requests.
