A ride along with San Diego Fire Department's Air Ops in Copter 1. A unique opportunity, as this was the last flight the Air Ops was allowing ride-along passengers for their helicopters. We flew north, orbited my house, flew east and further north and orbited several other locations, turned southbound and flew towards the San Diego harbor. We flew just east of mission beach, and conducted an off-field landing at Quivira Point. After lifting off, we flew further south, flying just off shore of NAS North Island. Around there, we turned eastbound and flew inland, passing just south of Brown Field. We turned northbound directly after Brown Field and headed towards the hills, where the crew demonstrated aerial fire mapping, using GPS. After fire mapping, we headed back to Montgomery Field and landed.
Quite a flight, and an incredible opportunity. I have many videos on my channel about San Diego Fire Department's helicopters, but none of them rank anywhere near this. Once in a lifetime, and I couldn't have done it without certain connections. I'd prefer to keep said connections anonymous on the internet, but if they happen to see this, I thank them greatly.
