It has been a long while since we've looked at the musical excellence of Nightwish and treated ourselves to the vocal versatility of Floor Jansen. So let's fix that by diving into Romanticide!

She' s not necessarily cured but the odds are in her favor. My understanding (I'm not that smart, ...my girlfriend is a breast cancer survivor) is that there is a 10% chance of reoccurence with the highest risk coming in the first 2 years.....IIRC she had a lumpectomy and not a masectomy, so it wasnt a big tumor.....but remember, this is Floor. Jansen...she destroys cancer cells everytime she hits that last note in Ghost Love Score!

I missed getting to meet the band in 2014 by 30 minutes, after I had bought 2 VIP tickets. I could have absolutely left a back seat driving cunt on the side of the road...Bitch cost me $150 for nothing. lol, All that to say I'm super jelly.

No one is ever "cured of cancer". The best you can have is being in remission for the rest of your life. But once you have cancer, your body is almost predisposed to having it reoccur. Once your cells have developed the mutation that causes unmitigated multiplication (tumors) they have a higher chance to have it happen again even in different parts of the body. I have an aunt that survived breast cancer only to have it come back in her bones. Obviously age, overall health and how serious the initial cancer was play a part but anyone that has cancer will need to have regular screenings for a very long time if not for the rest of their lives. The goal is for the need to for screenings to become less frequent.

As I’m not a singer, am a physician so understand anatomy and physiology as well as physics. Your use of anatomical discussions of how sounds and tones and timbres are produced is much appreciated. I’ve learned a ton about singing/singers from your channel. It has also allowed me to understand how Floor does the things she does vocally much better. She appears to be quite physically gifted by the singing gods…tall with strong core/back, lungs that appear to have > expected capacity, wide and large mouth with probably significant oropharyngeal space, skull shape also likely adds into her resonance and tone as well. She is the Secretariat of vocalists in that manner and that combined with her dedication to the craft and work ethic makes her the vocalist we all love. Wasn’t disappointed in the joy/amazement on your face with the slide at end 🤘. You’ve got a lot of catching up to do with some newer stuff from Nightwish and Floor both. This definitely brightened my work day so thank you.

Did you know...that Romanticide last part (Marko metal rap, double bass drumming etc.) was originally part of the Nemo song, but after a very long struggle they couldn't get it to work and they took it out. Tuomas have many times talked about how sometimes "you have to be ready to kill your darlings from the song" and this is one of those. After the struggles with Nemo, they put the Romanticide together and this part that didn't work in Nemo found its rightful place.

. First let me say YOU ARE THE FLOOR JANSEN of reaction channels. We love you for pretty much the same reasons we love Floor. (See if you can recognize any of yourself in my description of her :) Sure she's got the varied training and experience needed to have great technique, but those alone won't necessarily lead to great storytelling, let alone make one a good front person. She is, above all, very expressive --facial expression, vocal expression, body language, wit and emotion. The default emotion expressed is a mirthful sort of joy that seems to spring from some bottomless reserve. She is very present. She "takes risks," trusting that the audience will accept her choices. Her audience is drawn in whether she is frontperson, cosplayer, co-conspirator, interviewee, voice teacher or reactor. She can perform well with others, and celebrates their success as much or more than her own. We love her, not just because she's talented, but because she's fun and having fun; she's wise and articulate; she tries to include us in her joyful musical journey, and we ALMOST feel like we're there at Wacken 2013, looking out from the stage at all the eager faces, glancing over at Emppu to make sure he's not about to pull a prank, and throwing a quick grin at Tuomas before belting our guts out. Romanticide has been my #1 or #2 fave since I first heard it. The glissando. That one long, belty harmony. The part where Marco & Floor sing over the ends of each others' lines. The heaviness.

GLS is my favourite song to watch with reactors new to Nightwish, but Romanticide is my favourite to watch knowledgeable people like you analyse! Great breakdown. On a different note, as a fan of the English language I really appreciate how Tuomas plays with the words in this one, all the assonance in the chorus and the double meaning of "part" (notice how in the original "till death do us part" it means 'to separate', whereas in "till love do me part" it has become 'to cut in two'). Also the storytelling in the choice of vocal quality is spot on! BTW, in case nobody's mentioned it, in the original version it was just Marko on the "siren" at the end. He once said that with Floor in the band he no longer had to hold back vocally, and I guess this sort of thing contributed to that...

Thanks to a friend I was introduced to Nightwish and Floor just over 12 months ago having been a lifeling Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) appreciator and I have immersed myself in everything from the wonderful Tarja and Annette eras and now the incomparable Floor. I cannot now imagine a day going by when I don't listen to this phenomenal band especially live. ”Romanticide” is another “Tarja’a era” song of Nightwish, and I really love the way she picks some “checkpoints” of this song in similar to Tarja’s manner but still gives plenty of “herself”, and that makes her performance incredible technically, and also very respectful to Tarja and individual at the same time.

Floor said in an interview that she is very careful with how she sings in (warms up) before a performance/practice session and she practices a lot and eats healthy. But she does not excercise and occasionally allows herself a whisky and a cigar. She enjoys life, therefore, haha.

Are you two crazy? what are you talking about, what is good here, what are you happy about, alcohol and smoking is not the enjoyment of life, but self-destruction, I know that smokers and alcohol lovers will find excuses to continue smoking and drinking alcohol, but if you love Floor and you care about Floor's health then instead of that, you should be worried about Floor's health and hope that she no longer breathes this poison, if Floor stops smoking and drinking whiskey, will Hannes quit Floor? if he loves Floor then no, the cigar and whiskey are not important. Do you understand how quickly a cigar destroys the female body, even if a woman smokes one cigar a year, and it doesn’t matter what they smoke, electric or non-electric, the smoke of all these cigars rapidly destroys the female body, it affects men more slowly, the cigar causes a lot of types of cancer in women, including breast cancer, smoking in women causes breast cancer most of all. I think Floor doesn't smoke anymore and won't smoke, if Floor smoked after her treatment cancer, it treatment would be pointless, it would be suicide, it can't be that she still smokes after that if she thinks about her health and about her child, then she will stay away from cigarette smoke.

The fact that she is hitting the 6th octave is impressive, but I have heard other female singers hit that too. The big difference is the volume and resonance that she hits the slide with, that is in a class by itself.

Great to see you do another reaction to Nightwish Julia! Saw them live in December and will see Floor solo this summer, with as her starting act Anneke van Giersbergen, perfect lineup and can't wait!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of ❤. This is my favourite band, but lovely to understand why( with reference to musical theory ) that is the case, thank you (again) ❤

When it comes time to defend your Ph.D dissertation, introduce yoruself on mike, play a half dozen of yorur Nightwish reactions, drop the mike and walk out.......I have zero knowledge of singinfv, (except that I know I can't,) but learn and enjoy these videos so much.......even the sneaky middle of the week drops!......This was one of your best!

Being Nightwish, Epica and After Forever fan made me a curious about vocal technique for almost 20 years and your video is one of the best content about that at all. Good info nicely displayed.

This gives me vibes of trying to wrap my head around quantum mechanics listening to Brian Green. I try, but don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. However, it is enough to know that you have a great deal of respect for Floor and her abilities, which, coming from you means a lot.
