I was in Vegas when the crash happened as a kid, it hit us slightly later with the drop in tourism. We lost our home, security, it was a struggle to get any kind of assistance, some people were literally driving their cars as far as they could go out of the City until they ran out of gas because it was too expensive then try and catch a bus. People were killing themselves, I saw a man jump off a tall parking garage. Then, we moved to Texas and the most I heard about it from other kids when it came up in a high school economics class was “our family lost a car” or “My dad/mom lost their job and had a hard time finding another for a bit”. Worst time in my life, got scammed by my mortgage company cos they had lost their ass so they drained as many lenders of everything they could to recoup, we lost everything our home my entire life savings including everything in 401k. We were almost on the streets more than once but it's all good now, It took over 10yrs to get where I am through hard work, home is paid off. Btw the mortgage company got busted and had to repay all the lenders they ripped off, they took more than $100,000. From me alone after the settlement got passed around I got $1500 back what a joke. My advice stay out of debt much as possible that's how they keep you chained down, I have property tax and insurance, monthly bills that's it no car notes no credit cards.

They bought insurance against AAA-rated bonds, meaning if the bonds fail, they get paid. AAA bonds were composed of supposedly safe mortgages, and supposedly should not fail cuz while a mortgage will occasionally default, the overall bond would be secure because most mortgages would pay off, so the insurance was cheap, so they bought allot. However, they knew the bonds were loaded with toxic subprime loans. Google it. This nearly caused The Great Depression of '08.

Amazing how context change everything, in their version IT WAS the best decision, ignoring the lack expertise someone shouldn't be chatised too much for thinking like this. There's always unknowns and we should keep an eye for changes of meaning all the time, puts always in a state of uncertainty but thinking in probabilities it's more secure than being "secure". This "secure" can change depending on what and the past situation doesn't exist anymore, reality is always moving. The story that teached about this the most was the anime SNK, i just gave up thinking that i knew what was going on used "maybe" a lot.
