One area that can have great impact on the success of a high school athletic department is the strength and conditioning program. This session from the 2015 NSCA National Conference provides insights from Coach Kevin Vanderbush’s personal experience as the strength and conditioning coach at Ben Davis High School for 31 years. This session covers the most important components of strength and conditioning at the high school level and provides both the rationale behind certain practices as well as practical tips.

A must watch video for PE teachers offering a strength & conditioning class during PE time. Something for everyone in this talk. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Coach Vanderbush. A true professional and an excellent example for how to run a successful program.

I worked with Kevin at Maplewood Elementary….became one of my good friends! One of the kindest people you ever would want to have as a friend! Kevin was the one who helped me lose a ton of weight! I remember while in the Teacher’s lounge complaining about wanting to lose the extra weight! Kevin told me if I was serious he could help! He suggested I start with an hour of exercise a day…my choice! I started walking five miles a day…by the time I went back to school in the fall the other teachers didn’t recognize me….but Kevin was smiling ear to ear…he knew I had done it! I went from wearing a size 16 to a size 8 over the summer! I also decided to cut sugar out of my diet! I will never forget Kevin taking the time to help him…..I still consider him a friend, and miss seeing his smile daily! I was thrilled when he was able to go full time at the high school! He always spoke softly, but even at grade school the kids loved, and respected him! A truly great guy!

K.I.S.S. Basic approach that WORKS. Too much bullshit in the S&C world. A basic linear approach that builds a strong foundation of strength. Wendler has the same philosophy. Simple but effective, and his football program in Ohio has reaped the benefits.
