I think I understand this song now. He's talking about his dad and mom, but he himself is the person in the third verse. At first I thought this was a song about heterosexual people, but he's actually telling a story, presumably about he and some guy in the first person. Beautiful story. Also, beautiful melody too.

This ties so beautifully into the entire story. It's so sad though. Both this song and Grow As We Go are him begging the other person to stay by his side, yet he's currently single. I just want Ben to find happiness and love!

I swear to god Ben Platt is god's gift to humans. For real, he's amazing. He's sweet, nice, handsome as shit and has the voice of an angel. He's just the best thing alive and you would have to be sick to dislike him.

This so lovely! I get teary every time I listen to it! I think this is indeed how his parents met. Ben said in an interview that they were UPenn students, and his dad was in a production of “Godspell.” During a song when the actors take flowers into the audience, his dad gave his mom a rose 🌹❤️
