The emperor killed Anakin Skywalker, but he was revived after his (the emperor’s) death so he could be with his son again. Seems like a cheap move to bring some form of him back now that Luke and Anakin have both passed.

Pretty much the story of the prequels as a whole. Some great ideas, beautiful character arcs, and compelling themes, but executed in an awkward George Lucas-y way. Rots fixed much of this, but not entirely. Still, the goofiness is a big reason that everyone loves the prequels now. The sand thing makes perfect sense considering anakins character, but nooooo, George decided to come up with reasons why the substance of sand is annoying, and Hayden got stuck with the blame.

I believe Ben himself makes the point earlier that the Rey thing makes sense because she is Palpatine and Palpatine is the most powerful being in the universe. I've seen some bits of the comics that also indicate Vader is no where near Palpatine's power.

i mean supposedly Anakin WAS the most powerful being in existence in terms of force sensitivity, so give him godly enhancements, and you basically have a unkillable monster, funny also how he never tried to improve his own enhancements, because i truly believe if Vader REALLY wanted to, he would have made someone whit enough resources improve his armor and life support.

@Han Solo I disagree, Force Awakens' only redeeming qualities are it's throwback to A New Hope and making a storm trooper a character. But both of those were done poorly. StarKiller base is practically a parody of the Death Star and there's a lot to be desired from Finn's contrived desertion and none of that redeems them destroying Han Solo's character (even before they actually kill him) and making the villains laughable. As a stand alone, it's easily worse than 1-6 and Rogue One. Although it was entertaining, it's poorly done and does more damage to the SW universe than even Phantom Menace.

I haven't seen the clone wars but I've always liked PT. It gives so much more depth to what happened to the OT. And obviously TCW just makes it better.

You do understand that a show being great doesn't make the movie that precedes it great? Clone Wars being a great show doesn't somehow magically make episodes 1 and 2 good. It proves they COULD have been good, with a better writer and director. If anything, it makes them worse. Because it should have been easy to make them great, and yet they suck.

@@loyal0299 Clone Wars Count Dooku receieved lots of influence from Darth Sidious. Sidious made Dooku do things he didn't want to do, like attempting to kill Ventress in Season 3. And the Rush Clovis arc in Season 6? Probably a plot by Sidious to give the Republic control over the banks.

@@loyal0299 he had to do what was necessary to save the galaxy. he couldn't overthrow sidious on his own, and going back to the jedi order was neither possible nor would it help him in his mission to fix the corruption in the republic. he played the role of a sith lord so that he could eventually destroy the corruption of the republic and establish a new government strong enough to avoid the same pitfalls the republic had succumbed to. he tried to do so from within the Jedi order but the council didn't want him to be involved in politics aside from eventually "representing" them in the senate (btw they didn't want that, but his political prowess was undeniable and he had good relations within the senate already) and they sure as hell didn't want him speaking his mind without consulting with them and being shut down at every turn. he had no course of action to complete what he set out to do until Sidious approached him with a plan well underway to overthrow the republic and consequently the Jedi who were just as corrupt and blind at this point. papa palps also would put Dooku at the tip of the spear leading the Sepratist movement which would put him in a position of political power after the war's conclusion. Dooku didn't care about the Jedi or the Sith although being both, he cared about the well being of the galaxy. dude is so underrated and the movies do a horrible job conveying his character. He stopped caring about power despite being incredibly powerful, it was all just a means to an end. meanwhile palps was obsessed with power, as most sith are, he saw that in dooku and realized he'd never be the apprentice that Sidious and Plagueis originally thought he'd be. they were both scared of him initially, but once he stopped pursuing power that changed.

He felt completely betrayed by Sidious and absolutely hated him, but after being burnt alive and everything he’d done becoming Vader he viewed Sidious as the only person he had left in the world. Almost as a friend in a sick twisted sort of way. It’s pretty messed up. Especially when you consider there’s a pretty solid theory that Sidious actually used the force to kill padme by influencing her midi-chlorians because he wanted to torment Vader even further and push him deeper into the dark side.

The prequels don't have goofy dialogue, they have bland dialogue that's delivered with little to no emotion. The dialogue in the original trilogy is goofy in parts but its delivered with charisma and sometimes doesn't take itself seriously. Everything in the prequels is played straight and bland puts me to sleep outside of a few scenes.

Makes a great point about the Phantom Menace. Kids hate younger kids. The younger you make the protagonist the more the older kids will tend to hate the character. Human psychology is geared towards the younger learning from the older. However even then , the movie wasted great characters and scenes, but that belies the fact that there was something to waste. When I saw TFA, there was not a single character or scene I even bother to looks back on. There was nothing good wasted.

I tend to use legends as my source as Disney doesn't make very appealing stories. In legends when Dooku leaves the jedi order just after The Phantom Menace he doesn't immediately join the sith. He is a political idealist who wants to restore the republic to a more fair and free government and he also wants to purge the corruption from the jedi order. In fact many thought he would start a new order but in the end he joins sidious mainly due to the fact that sidious convinced him they had the same ideas. But as time goes on he begins to be corrupted by the dark side. By Attack of the Clones he isn't fully dark as is shown by the fact he is ready to train kenobi as an apprentice to destroy palpatine. By rots he is probably to far gone.

Revenge of the Sith is not a masterpiece. It has many of the same flaws as the two films that came before. The script is still clunky as hell. The acting is a bit better but there are still some incredibly awkward moments and the emotional punches fall flat. Anakin's arc is laughably unbelievable and rushed in order to get him where he needs to and as such some of his decisions go completely against his character. The action is pretty decent but even the final light saber fight feels more style (and very choreographed to the point you can see the beats they're trying to hit!) than substance. The music is fantastic but that goes for all the prequels and John Williams is just a genius so that was never in doubt.

Imo it's an ok movie. I HATE that they killed han solo and there is still the Mary sue matter, but I still enjoyed it. TLJ absolute garbage, TROS was pretty bad. It had some good moments but mostly bad.

@Fatima Carrano Hayden definitely deserves another big role as Anakin outside of the upcoming Obi-Wan series, whether that be a movie or a series of his own. I hope he is given this opportunity, but until then, I’m excited to see him back in Star Wars in the Obi-Wan series. Hopefully he will get some scenes that are not just flashbacks like you said. Also, that would be amazing with we got to see him controlling the force with Padme

Hayden still fell short for me. He always seemed like someone trying to act like what he was told, not someone actually filling the role. If he needed to be angry, it always seemed like he was acting his anger, not actually being angry. Same with the lines, it always sounded like he was reading, even with some of the more mundane lines. He ruined the immersion for me.

The thing is though: He isn't. He is the Emperor's apprentice. He is manipulating the Trade Federation into a spot where the Emperor can get Republic support for a Clone Army. He SOUNDS like a free trade libertarian, but he is undercover and has ulterior motives. That's the thing about the prequels: the romance scenes and comedy are so over-the-top blatant, that it is easy to miss how subtle the other parts are.

He's wrong though.

In the expanded material, Sidious used his disdain for the Republic's hypocrisy and bureaucratic nature to manipulate him into serving the Sith. We see that, time and again, Sidious merely uses a person's desires against them in order to get what he wants.

lol yes...I suppose "in the movie", the plan was to swap droids for hostages. At full strength, they could always storm the castle to retrieve the droids. Knowing the trade was really a non-starter, they just went up the chain, and used the jedi knight card as last resort. A brute force attack from the outset by a jedi would have been noticed by the Empire within four days or so. Though I suppose Luke could have had the bartender at Mos Eisley make a video besmirching the good name of Bibb Fortuna to throw everyone off the scent.

The issue is he didn’t really get his full moment of redemption. As beautiful as the shot is where he dies he needed to live after everything that had happened previously. Darth Vader’s story comes full circle because he fulfils his purpose after some major screw ups. Luke never fulfils his mandate of rebuilding the Jedi order so it’s so unsatisfying

Good list. I think episode 2 is very watchable. It has some issues but it’s not as bad as everyone says.

Rise of Skywalker (I love the prequels they expand the universe so much and have way better fights then all the other films) didnt rank the other movies like solo and rogue one cause wanted to just do the Skywalker saga
