The saying “hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard” could not be any truer for Ben Simmons. Dude has all the natural talent in the world to be a top 5 player RIGHT NOW in the NBA, yet he doesn’t want to work hard at all. Literally what Jokic is doing rn, that very well could be Ben Simmons plus his elite (or use to be) defense. It's pretty clear Ben doesn't care about basketball. Ben got what he wanted millions of dollars, cars, girls and a socialite life and that's all he wants at this point to live the life of an NBA player without having to play basketball. Simmons needs to give Donovan his ROY award back

I think the biggest problem is Ben doesn’t want to be told to play a “draymond-style” of basketball due to BEN’s lack of initiative to become a better player…. Ben literally wants a franchise to tell him “it’s okay that Ben wants to play ‘point-guard’; even though Ben can only do half the job…. Ben can dribble the ball up the court and pass; but even though hitting 3-pointers and free throws will be something Ben will never be good at, we’re happy because he’s happy”…. If Ben gets anything less than that, Ben will shut down…. That’s why no matter where he goes, it will be a disaster… because Ben doesn’t want to be a “draymond-type player”… even if it means he could help a team win a championship…. Ben wants to play the way he wants to play, and ONLY the way he wants to play! Anything else, and he’s just going to pout and destroy the team….

People tried warning about this too. That scouting report coming out of LSU warned about how close-minded he is being coached out of his skillset and the offense has to revolve around him.

Ik Austin rivers gets clowned alot (Deservingly so) however, he did have a point about the players of today who grew up on the mixtape circuit (that was only supposed to be a boost mind you) and how those platforms would become a staple for attention even if your only above average. Because the consequences of that are happening in real time. 70% of the guys coming Into the league are only athletic guys who don't really love basketball. They don't care about the game. They want to be rich & famous with basketball being the means to make them that. Zion is another example of this.
@cameronno60395 ай бұрын
Show me a time it wasn't the case? Athletes (like everyone else) want money. The NBA is a job with toxic media and fans. I'm sure they all like the game, but I'm also sure most of them dislike the major additional distractions.
@EazyIzzy5 ай бұрын
@cameronno6039 You had me in the first half. Yes. Everybody does want money to better their circumstances. Id even go so far as to say Allen Iverson was one of the guys im talking about. He's documented skipping team practices so he could eat tacos & was a party boy. You know whats crazier.....EVEN IN THE MIDST OF THAT HE GAVE EVERYTHING HE HAD EVERY GAME! Despite not being a good leading example, he at least showed he gave a damn. 👉That's where my point lies. Guys like Ben Simmons are going to be more frequent than ever! Guys who like you said "want money like everybody" else are going to fill up roster spots and dilute the game until its unwatchable even more so than it is ALREADY!
@cameronno60395 ай бұрын
@@EazyIzzy Every era had players that were selected for raw potential (athleticism and/ or height). Many NBA players love the money and not the NBA or basketball, necessarily. Eddie Curry was a prime example from the 2000s. The 80s being known for cocaine. Ben Simmons is among the worst abusers in history, I agree. I'm just saying show me a time you felt players universally loved the game.
@EazyIzzy5 ай бұрын
@cameronno6039 I think we are both on the same page here. You asked, "Show me a time you felt players universally loved the game" & my response would be the talent shown across the world at every point in time even from the worst players. It wasnt lack of effort, It was because of their skills lol. Bill cartwright was average skilled & doofy and even In that...he STILL gave more than today. The cocaine 80's at least had the energy after a few bumps to take a few bumps🤣
@cameronno60395 ай бұрын
@@EazyIzzy Got you. I just feel we can always parse through players that played primarily for money. Many athletes were drafted for raw athleticism and potential. Most just don't last long when it occurs. I think actual love for the game is rare. As for effort, I blame the system. NBA rules are offensively skewed; defense can't do much. Specifically, offenses set moving screens multiple times every play, carrying is allowed, traveling is a rarity (zero step), players catch the ball and then hop to set their feet before dribbling, and most charges are called as defensive fouls. Further, when defenders attempt to block, they are called for unsafe landing zones even when the offense stuck out their feet. I could continue, but the defensive death thing is systemic with plenty blame to go around for that one.

Long one. Ik this is a hot take, but Simmons gotta be one of the biggest busts in NBA history, probably top 5. He isn’t the traditional bust like a Greg Oden or Markelle Fultz, where injuries killed em, and he isn’t like Kwame Brown or Anthony Bennett, where they were outright bad. Ben’s bust case is another whole beast. Simmons literally had glimpses of bein a good player, but not that good, especially in his early years. He had *ALL* the talent, and he knew it, and he let all that go to his head. Keep in mind, Simmons was called the next LeBron and Magic, and everyone was glazing him up back in 2016. And with the way Philly stupidly tanked to get him, he should’ve been one of the faces of the NBA rn. He should’ve been winning MVPs and championships by now.

How bad? Including that Atlanta game, he’s gone 38/92 for free throws… he got the yips. I know some dudes have had the yips in other sports and like one or two come back from it then out of nowhere fall right back into the slump. I have no idea how he can fix it. People are saying he could go to Australia and maybe play there for a year or two and come back… I think he’d fall right back into this mentality problem.
