The Benchmade Nimravus is said to be Benchmade's most popular fixed blade knife. While they call it a tactical blade, it's a perfectly capable general purpose fixed blade for camping or hunting or whatever. In this review I baton with it a little, make some feather sticks, and discuss my knife feelings. This blade is made in the USA by Benchmade. If you'd like to support this channel you can buy this blade via the link below... The link is for the exact configuration as seen in this review, although you can get it in different blade styles, edge combinations, and handle scales.
Buy it here: amzn.to/2gCXH6z

This has been my EDC while in Germany, because carrying small modern folders without a "good reason" is illegal, but stabby fixed-blades up to 12cm blade length are fine. Great knife.

So I was issued this just before leaving the military. For fear of abusing an expensive memory... I held on to it for a long time. Recently I have gotten over the sentimental value and realized I have a badass knife. In search of (if this could be used for bushcraft) I stumbled upon your review. I was hesitant believing anyone that rocks corduroy... but you threw all the bs knife talk aside. Spoke to a guy that just wanted to know if I could.. and you rocked it! Hats off to you corduroy pants guy! Time to go cut small sticks!

I wanted this knife for years then found it at a knife collectors shop used. black with the tanto tip and partial serrated. got it for $110 as i recall. unfortunately it didn't have the drop leg section of the sheath. can't beleive i'm seeing you hit it with a hammer. i was using it to pop the plastic section around the stereo in a 2012 ford (work truck I would never own a ford) and chipped the tip off about 1/8" really not prying very hard at all. I sent it in to benchmade with an infidel OTF and a stimulus (best pocket knife I've ever owned) for they're free lifesharp service. they installed and adjusted new springs in both auto knives, reshaped the tip on the nimravus, and sharpened them all free of charge. just payed to ship to them. Note that without military or law enforcement paperwork you can't send the OTF knives over state lines to them. but I'm in Oregon as well so I didn't have to worry about that. Now I have the infidel Listed on CL for $300 because to me it's a very expensive letter opener.

I traded an LT Wright GNS for a Nimravus last year. Mine is the serrated model and I absolutely love it. The handle is a bit aggressive though. You should check out the Protagonist. Same blade with a more hand friendly handle. And get it serrated! That's the only way to roll!

That's a nice one too- looks very similar. The aluminum scales do get a little slippery when wet, so the rubberized handle would keep it from slipping.

@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah prett much... a very reasonably sized spine and weight... and it actually weighs less than Benchmade claims. Maybe the Tanto version is the heavier one? Their website says the drop point is heavier, but the weight on the drop point is definitely a mistake (on their site).

I've always liked this knifes look but never enough to drop the the $$$$ to buy it. When this first came out back in the 90s (when you were a cub knife bro), it was only about $89. It had a kydex sheath. i liked this knife but I lusted for an Al Mar SERE VII which i never got. They were always out of stock at online stores and I never won an ebay auction for one. then i moved on to a Camillus Terzuola cqb1. what those all have in common is the spear point blade which is what drew me to the Benchmade originally. I think its one of the most versatile blade shapes. Now that I'm an old geezer knife bro (51) i don't lust for the tactical blades so much. I like the old timey knives. Speaking of which If you are handy with tools and want to try putting a handle on a knife, a cool knife you might look for is a green river Dadley. This place sells the Russell green river blades. They are inexpensive. www.crazycrow.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&CatListingOffset=0&Offset=0&Category_Code=841-200-010&Per_Page=12&Sort_By=disp_order Other places like Jantz and Texas knifemaker supply sell them too. I'm not trying to lure you to the dark side of Old Timey knives, Really I'm not.

I'm still a youngun... not that young at 37- but I got a ways yet. Those knives look nice. So they don't come with handles? I actually have some old looking blade similar to one of those that's fastened together with copper rivets and has a brittle wood handle... I was evetually going to do a video on one. I don't mind these at all.. I really like that Vangedal and it's sort made in a similar spirit.
@MrAndrewmcgibbon
@MrAndrewmcgibbon 7 жыл бұрын
Advanced Knife Bro some of them can be had with handles, if you look under finished knives on the website. but with a few simple tools, (Drill, Coarse half round file. some sandpaper, a little glue) Voilla! you have yourself a knife with a personalized handle. www.ragweedforge.com/BladeCatalog.html has a bunch of Scandinavian style blades that you can make your own handle for. The Finnish Lauri blades are a really good deal. I liked that Vangedal knife. The blade shape reminds me of a knife Marbles made before WWII. It was a fishermans knife.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 7 жыл бұрын
All are fairly reasonably priced. I'd like to make a blade one day when I get some time. Plus eventually my Kukri handle is going to fall off, so that would be a good handle to start on. I guess looking up how to stablize wood or keep it from cracking would help too. My brothers a lot better with that stuff then me... he makes recurve bows from trees, and builds shelters, etc. This is actually his knife, and I sent it back to him today.

Should be a leather sheath or kydex something hard lol I've been collecting knives for years and i still dont understand why companies are still releasing nylon sheaths. They can at least out a hard insert for the nylon sheath for safety purposes so a users hand ain't cut upon drawing the blade or the tip going through the nylon which could potentially hurt the user. I know this is a long comment but seeing nylon shealths still especially without a hard insert for the blade to slide in gets me like oooh another dumb sheath lol Knife on the other hand definitely looks good i might've to get one but have one of my knife buddies make me a sheath

Here's the problem with this blade, its a "tactical blade" yet it is extremely uncomfortable in the hands...go ahead, try squeezing it. It hurts your hand. scales are terrible for a fixed fighting blade, molded on handles are my preference. This knife feels like squeezing a ruler to me. Benchmade should take a note from sogs handles and make their own handles thicker and more comfortable. btw your review was excellent, wasnt boring like most reviews on youtube, you get to the point, (no pun intended) i like that about this video.

I have the knife, the scales don't hurt, it's just the way you hold it. Honestly, the handle feels ok, but it does hurt when you're holding it for a very long time. Still a good knife though, but I do understand why people want to change the handles of the blade

Now, I spend a lot of money on expensive knives but, I just dont understand why companies sell such expensive fixed blades. There's not a whole lot going on with them, no mechanisms or locks, just chunks of steel with scales lol. Why the hell do the get so expensive? I understand +$300 folders with the small size and machining of the materials along with the mechanisms and locks but for almost $300 this knife is way overpriced imo and ive payed more for folders.
@DobermansRock
@DobermansRock 2 жыл бұрын
Same here but, my thinking found me searching and what I found is the cost of the steel they use for the blades. Yes folders are more complex but, use up less of the expensive materials. A whole blade and full handle tang of S30V, S90V, 154CM, ATS-34 etc and the price goes up when the cost is above $30 an inch square.

Advanced Knife Bro if you advertise a blade as a tactical blade...something designed to function in the role of a combat knife. then you'd atleast expect the blade to be good if not outstanding at tactical tasks, this is not a good tactical blade. One of the most important things an strait edged weapon can have is reach.. A thing this blade lacks.But it is a good edc/utility fixed blade
