I'm a lontime user and fan of Microtech knives. Since a few months however I'm carrying and using daily the Shootout. It's a super lightweight and strong companion. Price/quality 10 of 10. Close to perfection! To be recommended.

This has been my EDC for about a month and I absolutely love it. Its the perfect size, blade shape and steel for me. I was skeptical of the handle since I hate the handle on the bugout, but I was happily surprised by how this feels.

This fixed one major gripe I have with OTFs and put another smack dab in the spine of the handle. Love the symmetry would love to wrap my hand around it with out that opener.

Spencer I like the way you review knives. Very little frill, very little exaggeration, and honest. Keep it up.

I personally think people hate on grivory/CF elite too much. It's a great handle material for edc knives in the sense that they are extremely lightweight and strong enough for edc tasks.

Just got a Shoot Out. Appears to have some streaks on the blade finish probably from oil during assembly. Does any one know the best way to clean the PVD coating on the blade without ruining the finish?

Jaime addressed Zac, I dont even remember if Jaime was addressed, and now it seems the company themselves has to address Kurt. I feel like I would want to do it if I had so many fans… Either way BHQ is still a knife store at the end of the day, regardless of their youtube. So videos or not, Ill still buy from them.

The Bail out is obviously the baby daddy, the tanto blade and window breaker is the biggest indicator. Haven't held one yet, but will soon.

What’s wrong with Cruwear? Great steel choice. I haven’t had a chance to hold Benchmade’s OTF. Now I have the great Microtech Combat Troodon single edge. I use it drop it , beat the crap out of it. It’s not a show piece. It a when SHITF piece. But I’m looking forward to holding the Benchmade which makes some awesome knives.

Can someone please give me the rundown on otfs in California? What can I carry what can I own?

I have five different OTF's the Shootout I initially wasnt overly fond of but the knife just grew on me. Lightweight, sturdy and smooth function. It is the only OTF I carry now. The rest are nice to look at...this knife beats them all.

If Benchmade would've gotten down to the $199 price point I think they'd have a winner. For the $270 price I'd save a bit longer and get the Infidel or a Microtech. We're talking a few hundred dollars difference not thousands of dollars. I got no problem using a $500 knife as a work knife, a good knife should be used. The blade coating is the same coatings used in machining cutting inserts, not bad just easily worn off. I'd rather see this knife in a basic 1095 and at the $199 or less price. Cool review video though!

Benchmade is great I’m stationed in cali am I permitted by federal law to be able to carry a knife like this I’m looking into the codes and it says some stuff that sounds like military and first responders while at work can have one.

I bought a knife similar off Amazon. If you hold the knife about an inch away from a book or piece of wood and push the switch forward it will stick into the material. I was totally shocked. I’m confident it will pierce through flesh from one inch away

One thing that makes Benchmade's OTFs better is the knurling and texture of the handles. Microtech has great OTFs but they are slippery for the price. Also they offer the same but they make it a premium to obtain it. 😒

This would be a cool entry otf for someone trying one, but then you said 270!!! That's a no no for me. Some of the most famous and with better quality otf can be purchased for 300, why spend 270 on a linda cheap option? I don't see it, aparentely BM see it, we don't 😂

The issue I have with OTF's is that due to their nature, when the blade is actually deployed that universally they never feel as strong as any other folding knife. I am assuming that's because the blade is so far deployed that the centre of gravity is now off. I have yet to handle an OTF that feels rock solid when deployed. I'm not saying they don't exist, I just haven't handled one yet. Also, when thinking of purchasing a knife I always carefully consider the grind because of resharpening. Tanto's, to me, are the worst and even though this isn't a tanto, it comes close and looks frustrating to resharpen.

why is the handle so damn big. let's be honest they are competing with microtech. microtech makes the smallest and most slimline otfs that im aware of. This doesn't shake the market up imo. It's just another big unpocketable otf that doesn't take the place of a folder or fixed blade. it's got no demographic other than its cost a bit less.

I appreciate your honesty about the action switch being awkward. Little details like that can really affect the overall experience with a knife. I’m not an OTF kinda guy, but this looks like it could be fairly suited for a wide range of tasks. It doesn’t look too heavily tactical-oriented.

I had a benchmade at one point. The thing was a POS. The handle broke in less than a month. Sh*t quality. Not sure if they're ALL sh**, but you know... just was a bad experience unfortunately and sadly. Sucky first impression. But who knows... maybe they're good overall, but the specific one I had, sucked a** *

For 270 dollars, there are so many problems with this... Nylon handles, no matter how dressed up, is still cheap. No one wants that. Benchmade needs to stop with the cheap handle material. No one says, "oh no, I don't want g10... I'd much rather have nylon". The cruwear steel is a huge miss. Again, 270 dollars... S30v should be the floor and something better considered. Then, the pvd coating. Anyone who's used anything with pvd (guns, knives, etc) will tell you it is NOT abrasion resistant and it's also super cheap for companies. Essentially, it's cosmetic and not useful. I would love for a company to make an otf that didn't suck and wasn't 3 bills. Also, would love for Benchmade to decide if they are going to be a premium company (with the already premium price) or a budget company and bring their prices in line with their products.

Well, carry this for a week, and You will never want to carry a Microtech againe

its a good review, but i personally don't like plastic knives that cost 300 dollars, i should've saved for the microtech or medford and done my research opposed to rushing things bc i saw the words Benchmade and otf shouldve known if its less than 500 dollars its a POS

It's only 30 dollars cheaper than a regular retail ultratech. They should probably go cheaper with the materials being used

That edge grind looks horrible. Very inconsistent. I've only ever had to sharpen one benchmade and i found the edge bevel to be offset and hard to sharpen.

Ill take cruwear over just about anything out there

Benchmade is getting way too expensive while making the same old janky old knives. For over 300 bucks a Microtech is way more knife for your money. Mine are all M390, not CruWear. I own a few of each and can speak from experience.

He keeps bringing up the price point, so I had to take a look. The knife is over $300!!! That is not consumer friendly. You can get a Micro tech for a few bucks more... HARD PASS on the shootout.....
