Has she? The winner of Drag Race isn't necessarily the most successful queen. Shangela never won in three seasons and one special, but is still considerably more successful than most finalists and even some of the actual winners.

But tbh also because of the (positive) message the show tries to convey to the public. Dela refused to spell it out so wasn't a judges favourite in S6. In AllStars she was constantly visibly emotional so that was a good drama, and show of "self", that made her loved by production.

I think Drag Race has ALWAYS been as much about the reality and the cattiness as the competition. Back in Season 2 and 3 you couldn't go two scenes without a fight of some sort. Reality TV, even in competition formats, almost always has some amount of drama because drama is considered entertaining. Shangela was dumping drinks over people in Season 3, and people were referred to as boogers, that drama was played up then as it would be now. I appreciate what Dela did, I was upset because I wanted to see another obvious winner receive a crown but I could see that she needed to do what she did for herself but what she did was absolutely reality TV gold as she said, which is why noone tried to stop her OR told the judges.

I think she’s fully aware that the catty ness and drama comes from the eliminations. That’s just not why she went on drag race in the first place. She went on to show her best self and really prove her own worth here. I’m very similar to her in a competition sense, because it’s not about the other competitors. People who are like minded couldn’t give half a damn about how well or bad the other competitors are doing because the only variable you have control over is yourself, and if you waste your time and focus on what someone else is doing, you take away time and focus to perform your best/be your best. Get what I mean? Plus she has an amazing sense of self-awareness and humility to her. She probably felt that it really wasn’t her place to be making those decisions. Yea I know that’s the name of the game, but what happens when you’re not playing the game for the same reasons as everyone else? She didn’t come back to the show to win a crown and title that say she’s the best of the best, because she already had that validation and sense of self worth going into it. She said it in the interview, she only wanted to show that she was really good at things

Desi agree!!! It’s kind of unfair how every all stars season they have some new bullshit method to introduce to the queens that have to bite their tongue. DeLa is a STAGE performer. She hardly vanished. In fact, I've seen her 3 times on stage since her iconic departure and have tix for another show with Jinkx in December. I implore you to check her schedule and seek her out. Some of the most gag worthy shows I've ever seen.
