Purchased a 24 B/E Ridgeline, local diving 23mpg, Test drove all Midsize Trucks, Ridgeline has the most interior room and a smooth ride. Downsized from a 2010 F150 with 173k miles, The Ridgeline is a better ride than my F150 and fits better in the Garage I will never go back to a full size Also at 45k it is less expensive than an equally equipped full size Truck. Has a V6 with no turbo that will last for 200k+ with fewer problems than a 4 banger Turbo.

I WANTED the Tacoma. I BOUGHT the Ridgeline. The test drive made it an EASY choice. The Honda has: 1) Way more space in the front seats. It's super wide, so shoulder room is fantastic. I'm 6'-4" and I have good legroom, and massive headroom. 2) WAY WAY more space / MORE USABLE space in the back seats. Both for when using with the back seats down for people, and for when the back seats are folded up storing things. I can fit TWO full size bike back there (with the front wheels taken off). 3) In bed trunk. Man, it's perfect for groceries. They don't slide around like when you put them in a bed. And it's secure/locking/out of site. Perfect for valuables. 4) The WIDER FULL FLAT BED. Man, hauling 4x8 sheets of anything just got simple. They lay flat in the bed. 5) The ride, it's great. Quiet. Smooth. Great for trips, or around town. 6) Outward visibility. You can actually see out in all directions. (In the Tacoma, you sit so low in the cab/the hood is so high, you can't really see what's in front of the taco). 7) Seating position. The Tacoma seats sit you "on the floor". It's very uncomfortable. The Honda seats are very very good. And are high enough to provide thigh support. 8) The swing out tailgate is fantastic for getting access to the bed. Either loading, or using the bumper as a step. Magic. Dumbest thing I've done in my Ridgeline. I put 1,900lbs of landscape paver in the bed, and hauled them home. (The bed capacity is supposed to be 1,000lbs). Don't recommend...

I had a nice Silverado. Under 70k miles on it the rear wheel wells started rusting out and the gas mileage was terrible. Realized I didn’t use it that much for truck stuff other than hauling kayaks and hardware store runs. Traded it in for a 21’ Ridgeline black edition and haven’t looked back. Does everything I need and great gas mileage. Get what you need and don’t worry about what everyone else thinks.

The Ridgeline has all the capabilities of a truck and none of its weakness. I had a Tacoma. The RL drives way smoother, comfortable for long trips, decent hauler, bigger interior, better bed & tailgate, bigger engine, handles better, and it's FASTER! Ya'll need to get over its unibody. For a mid-sized truck, you don't need a body on frame anyway.

Yes, I have test driven the 2024 Tacoma's twice, but that back seats are to small, seats uncomfortable, ride is ruff. I hate losing my truck trunk. If I was back on the Farm in Idaho. I would get a 1/2 ton truck to haul hay etc.

Ben, LOL, great video! I need a “truck” that will perform the function of towing a small 2,900 lb camper (any truck rated 5,000 lbs or more will comfortably do that) and I need payload to manage tongue weight, topper/shell, camping gear, passengers, and pet. I want around 1500 lbs of payload. In this comparison, easy, I choose the Ridgeline. Sure Tacomas are great trucks and solid off-roaders. I need function not a life-style vehicle! ;) I am disappointed in the Tacomas and Frontiers in terms of payload despite liking both. By the way, the Ridgeline will actually handle 600 lbs of tongue weight despite only towing 5,000 lbs. Most trucks will run out of payload before running out of tow capacity. Lots to like with the Tacoma, but my truck needs would require that I choose the Ridgeline over the Tacoma; ummm, the Ridgeline is more “trucky” for what I need in terms of hauling.

I sold a 2014 Ram 1500 and bought a 2020 Ridgeline Sport in April 2021. MSRP $38k, discounted down to $32k. Never looked back. I’m in my ‘60s, I want comfort and interior room but I also need a bed to haul (don’t tow, so don’t care about the 5k tow capacity). Ridgeline is perfect for what I need. Even with price increases, the Ridgeline RTL is a higher trim level than the SR5 Tacoma and the Honda still comes in lower. Give me NA V6 over a turbo 4 any day. TFL guys broke their new Taco transfer case the first time they took it off road. Sarah-n-tuned took a Ridgeline offroading in Arizona and it kicked ass. Watch her video before you hate on the Honda.

@adamnagel7436 pretty much what I said. You want a car. It's why they don't sell many. Because most people who want a car, but a car. Very small number that opt off the Ridgeline due to mpg. You can say it has a smooth ride and comfort and in bed storage, but it's among the lowest rated in he truck category. Pele van do Edgar they want with their money. If I was primarily buying for comfort and mpg, I'd get a sedan. If I was going to use it for truck features... I'd get a truck that better did those things. Wait until the '25 gets the 10 sp. and a little bump is HP. Features and layout wise, I have to give it to Honda and it's cheaper. I hope Honda will improve a few things and maybe re-engineer the frame for better towing. Toyota has done a good job with the "Tonka" truck look and it's cool. It is more cramped being RWD. Also, you can get stuck with subscription fees. This made my decision.

Not a real truck stupidest thing I've ever heard when the Tacoma has a 4-cylinder with a turbo s*** that's a motor for a car do you have this little mortar working really hard to pull a truck and if you tow anything and put anything in the payload the mortar is going to work really hard come on absolutely ridiculous 4 cylinder in a truck it should not be called the truck maybe a truck for a Smurf plus the Tacoma looks really ugly all square boxy look on the inside and the outside it looks so cheap the older Tacomas looked a lot better and had Real Motors so definitely Toyota is skimping on looks quality durability so it is very clear which one is the real truck and which one is the Smurfs truck Toyota needs to go back to the roots that is when they make quality the trucks were better built no competition to the Honda Ridgeline absolutely none at all

Turbos have been around forever. The had issues on 80s Saabs. The idea that a modern turbo is any worse than a modern NA engine is stupid. The advantage in low end torque, MPGS, and performance at elevation are worth it to me. I live in the north wind river range in Wyoming and drive at altitude all the time. Turbo performance is worth it to me. 60k miles on mine. Not a single issue. Personally I will never go back to NA engine.

So many Honda Fanboys that have bought into the marketing. Ridgeline is a great car with a bed, Tacoma is class leading compact truck. Tacoma sells five to one vs. Ridgeline, but the Ridgeline is a great current copy of a El Camino or Ranchero. If the Honda was that great it would make a bigger dent in the pickup market, its for pickup wannabes, 52K vs. 2.85 million, not setting the sales world on fire, is it? Shoot, the Ford Maverick is a very recent add to the segment and it's selling double, add the Santa Cruz and they sell triple, add the others in the compact segment and the Honda is an also ran at about 8.5% of the COMPACT truck market, just sayin... The sales are driven by fanboys, mostly ladies, that don't need a real truck and are migrating from an Accord and they think they want a bed.

It's crazy; everything you stated has zero to do with the capability and performance of the vehicles. Maybe you're the one that succumbed to marketing?
@sounddoctor5decades
@sounddoctor5decades 25 күн бұрын
@@Nl9ETEEN That is a fair statement, although, I have not succumb to any marketing, I'm only making commentary based on what is a better "truck" which is a grey area for Ridgeline, although it has many "fanboys" it is not a "true" truck, wherein a Tacoma is, Tacoma would be registered as a "truck" in all states, where Ridgeline does meet weight requirement for the light truck category, it is registered in some states as a crossover, due to its lack of body on frame construction, which was also the case for El Camino or Ranchero or for that matter Subaru Brat or Dodge Rampage, Maverick and Santa Cruz are in the same boat. Also, you are correct, I made no mention of capabilities of the vehicle which in many cases are admirable vs. many light trucks, such as ride and handling, which are engineering artifacts of it being based on a car, or more precisely a crossover with car roots, which is the case for all products I previously mentioned. But those are exactly the same benefits that create competitive disadvantages when comparing to a "truck", such as towing, payload, abuse durability and true "off road" capability. My main quip is with Honda's profound marketing campaign and funding of influencers to make it appear that this "truck" was something that's its not, which is a crossover with a bed. Honda has never made the investment to build a TRUE pickup for the NA market, or any market for that matter. instead they leverage brand recognition and marketing to make an attempt to capture share with a "wannabe' as I stated in my post. I also provided facts that if they were so great, they would capture more share out of the legitimate truck market, but they don't. I also mentioned that Ford for example is outselling Honda in the Crossover with a bed market, even though Honda has a significant time lead and a "perception" of a better product (which I believe is not actually an accurate statement anymore, and don't provide the BS data from JD powers or Consumer Reports please, as 80% of the folks know that is BS self fulfilling popularity contests), Also, the Ford, which is currently the sales leader in the segment, in most head to head tests of off road versions (such as they are), Ford executes better than the Honda despite the 10K lower cost, and I believe this is due to the fact that Ford has a long history of manufacturing "trucks" and a long history of manufacturing "off road trucks", so they can bring engineering expertise to the table that Honda simply does not have. I will admit that Honda is a marketing powerhouse, quite frankly, so is Toyota, but they both pale in comparison to Subaru, they are a study in themselves. I'm sorry to have triggered you so badly, it was not my intent, I'm only trying to offer some fact based information as I believe that Honda sells a number of Ridgelines to folks that think it is a true "truck" which it is not, if you love yours that's great, but anyone that needs a truck owes it to themselves to be as informed as possible and as I mentioned, Honda in typical fashion is executing a "full court press" on the marketing investment of this product and is capturing share with comparatively virtually zero engineering investment. Fortunately in North America we live in Free countries, and folks can purchase whatever they wish, if you feel the Honda meets all your requirements, buy it. But Honda is good at marketing suppression through saturation, so my comment is purely to inform with FACTS, I can't help the "fanboys", in the same way a Dodge lover will never buy Chevy or a Chevy will never buy a Ford etc., but brand bias typically drives ultimately poor buying decisions, that is also a FACT. People owe it to themselves, especially now with such high acquisition costs, to ACTIVELY shop and compare. Go touch drive and personally research a product as expensive as a vehicle. Marketing is VERY powerful these days and in my opinion drives potentially poor buying decisions. Again, sorry for the trigger.

I’ve owned my 2006 Ridgeline since 2013, bought from original owner with 87,000 miles. I bought it specifically for camping. I have driven it fully loaded on many 4wd only roads where only speeds below 9mph are possible. This truck was purpose built for North America and it shows, much more interior room than a taco, I no longer bump elbows with the person sitting next to me as i did with the Taco. It now has 338,000 miles and about 40 + camp trips on it and i still drive it daily on original drivetrain. Only the starter, power steering pump and front struts have been replaced other than scheduled maintenance. This truck is a beast, my full size truck buddies say the same shit you did and then they drive it and then they start calculating the differences. The Ridgeline bests the Taco and all half ton full size pickups in almost every way and the driving experience is no comparison. Drives like an Audi and is a far more pleasure to drive than some shitbag leafspring suspension truck where you need a chiropractor on speed dial after a trip up the hill.

This makes you wonder why it doesn't do more in sales? My beef is with the following; - ground clearance. Yeah, for simple camping where any car can go is fine. For decent offroad, yeah, no. - have you ever had a flat? If you have the bed loaded, you have to unload it to access the spare. Ugh. And then reload it. - you bumped elbows in midsized trucks? As a driver I've never done that. How big are you? Are you trying to box out to grab a rebound as if playing basketball. All joking aside... the back seat I can see but as a driver, never ran into that issue. - buying a truck, I know the mpg is going to be what it is. If I wanted better mpg, I'd get a car that is designed to get it. I get a truck to tow, haul and go offroad. I certainly would look at other options if a "better ride" was high up my list.
