Benn vs Hearns would have a great matchup. Hearns could definitely outbox him with that jab and footwork or KO Benn with the right hand. Benn would have a punches chance. It would probably go sown to who landed the big shot first... I think Barkley was a few yrs younger when he beat Hearns, though I feel Heans won the 2nd by decision and git robbed... Then Barkley got KO'd by Duran so Benn got an aging version of Barkley who had been in a few wars and on his way out. My opinion, and yes I feel Benn shoulda gotten DC'd for that cheap shot. Like Tysons ear bite, there's no place for that type of fighting ik a boxing match. Great round though...

He was a former Amateur ABA champion.. Not some raw talent.. He knew the rules.. he had just whipped himself up to frenzy for this fight.. @@dyschromotopia heat of the moment? Didn't do it on purpose? BS. That 2nd one he lined the punch up and stepped into it. Barkley was completely out of it, how could he complain? And thats not a good reason to not penalize a guy. Roy Jones was DQ'd a few years after this for decking a guy twice while he was down. It's inexcusable. Its one thing when you're throwing a combo and the last punch catches the fighter on their way down, or just when they go down. Similar to when GGG fought Martirosyan. @@BrownBomber92181 yeah, i agree with the 2nd late blow. Benn was always gung-ho & willing to test the referee's grip on the fight & he was aware of his own vulnerabilities which was why he was so aggressive & eager to get things over with asap......it was part of the reason he was so exciting, but yes, he should have been penalised on the first instance.........that would have prevented further indiscretions. Padilla was a decent referee but he failed to impose his authority on this occasion. Benn needed to maintain his fearsome reputation, especially against other all action punchers; yet he was a skillful boxer, his punches full of torque, good balance & footwork, his timing & distance were excellent, he was a great counter puncher & at his most dangerous when he was hurt.

From the jump, Benn timed Barkley perfectly with that right hand. Barkley should’ve been allowed a 5-minute break from a double foul: being hit while down and an illegal rabbit punch to the back of the head simultaneously.

No. Barkley turn his back which should be an automatic 8 count. When he went down he tried to then sneak up out of a count so as to avoid the 10 count as such avoid a 10 to 8 round. In all circumstances Benn had the right to continue with the exchange.

A golden age in British boxing, at middle and super middle. It is a shame that some fights were never made. In most cases the names of the Americans in the era didn't fight against the Horizontal brits. Probably a good thing as they may have re-developed the idea of what the horizontal brits and its meaning (ie, they would leave you horizontal). Two of the best brits - Benn and Eubank IMHO were affected by heavy fights and tragedies. Any Benn fight where the opponent also showed up to fully fight, was blockbuster. One scary dude.

Nigel Benn got lucky with the Referee not Disqualifying him, that was dirty, when someone is on the canvas you can't be doing that definite DQ imo. Some Round though, pretty similar to The War except not as high octane, but they both were bangers & gave us all a great Round of Boxing, if you think this Referee sucked what y'all think of Tony Weekes & his performance with the Ortiz Jr v Lawson Fight was that a fix or what?
