This is the second song Benny Mardones performed when he was on American Bandstand. The other song was his smash hit "Into The Night" Benny explains that he was inspired to write the song as a tribute to Dick Clark.

Maybe singing about a 16 year old girl when he was 33 or 34 had something to do with it? Even in this song he mentioned "young girls" too. Fucking creep

He was truelly a good person!!. He had so much talent...why was he left to go into drugs. He had it ALL!!! So terrible that he was left to go into drugs!! Glad that he came back from the drugs with a deeper voice without his high pitch but still beautiful and rid of drugs. He lived his last years doing what he loved and with a comeback in Syracuse NY which was so great for many years. I feel he could have been so much bigger if record producers would have seen his potential and he would have not led to drugs....drugs that totally destroyed this man's voice...he had such range and magical voice that absolutely no record producer saw...he just was left to drugs....such a shame!!! Rest in peace Benny!!

Yes he should have been a household name, yet I didn't even recognize it when I heard he died. After watching this video plus a couple other live performances of Into The Night from 1980 I set out to find out why the heck it didn't happen. In a word, you could say it was cocaine. One year a millionaire, the next he had blown it, with a $1000 a day habit. There's a film made about him that was only released to film festivals but there's a 5 minute trailer on youtube that sums it up. The Benny Mardones story. They need to release that already, i would love to see it!
@patriciakowerko82014 жыл бұрын
@@Katerina9256 I really hope they release the documentary soon. Even though Benny didn't become a superstar, I hope he was proud of all the success he did have, and I hope he didn't think he failed. His fans are so grateful for him. I also think a biopic of Benny's life would be a fabulous movie. They could cast Constantine Maroulis from American Idol, or Adam Lambert from American Idol to play Benny. They have the voice and the looks to do Benny proud. I think it would be fabulous!
@Katerina92564 жыл бұрын
@@patriciakowerko8201 You should see an interview that he did sometime within the last few years on a youtube channel called the Professor of Rock. They put out a tribute video when he died and showed the interview. That's how I first learned his name, when I saw that. Anyway at the end of the interview he said he just hoped that somehow he had made a difference. The interviewer assured him that he had and that this was the reason they were there talking with him. He was so touched he had to wipe tears away! I'm sure he had to live with many regrets but at least his career did have a resurrection of sorts in central New York. Also in 1990 he performed exquisitely at the Roy Orbison tribute show...if you haven't seen that video i highly recommend it! The song is Running Scared. It seems he had cleaned up by then. I would love to see the documentary to find out what it was that ultimately made him give up the drugs, because he has said that even Roy Orbison asking him to stop didn't work. I am kind of doubting it will be released at this point..it was supposed to already 3 times, I dont get it! Oh i like your idea of Constantine Maroulis playing him in a biopic, definitely 👍
@breezy37254 жыл бұрын
The story behind the song is not what you think. He actually helped out a family in his apartment who's dad left left them without saying goodbye by giving each of the kids jobs and paying them $50 wk. It was his buddy who said she was hot and he told him leave her alone, she's just 16. He was a good guy

How ironic, right. Perhaps his heart was for his country, due to how he was possibly brought up. I looked into Google and saw in the info on Benny Mardones that his father left his mum when was just an infant. I assume he was raised by his mom? If so, I would imagine that she was patriotic as well. They didn't give any complete information about him or his own family of origin on Wikipedia. They gave the name of the dad, but not the mom of Benny.
