Benny Hill was a quiet, private man with a beautiful soul and incredible sense of humor. Like Rodney Dangerfield, he gave the world far more joy than it gave him. Thank you, Benny. May you be resting and laughing in peace.

I read his biography years ago, his cheques from the shows would still be sitting on his mantelpiece weeks later, his agent kept telling him to put them into the bank. He just loved his work and didn’t seemed too bothered about the money.

As a boy between 1987 and the early 90's I spent some of my happiest times every Saturday as a "Milkboy" with the local Unigate Milkman on his old three wheeler. What great days they were. I know there is the old cliche about the Milkman being the housewives' favourite, but there was truth in it. Even at his advanced years, the Milky still had the Teddyboy quiff and sideburns which, when combined with the Unigate uniform, with its red collar and cuffs, almost made it look like he was reliving his youth on a daily basis! As for milkies being the housewives' favourite I think at my tender years then I couldn't put two and two together regarding why he would disappear into certain ladies' houses for a little longer than was really required. However, frivolity aside, I learnt during those happy years that the milkman really had a central role socially at that time:Nothing was too much trouble. and he would always go the extra mile to help the old or someone who was sick. The kind of pillar of the community who seem to be hard to find nowadays.

Probably one of the best songs ever written. I knew every word of it when I was a kid, love it 😀

"Ernie id be 'happy if it comes up to me chest...." Hilarious~~!!! Happiest childhood memories -watching Benny Hill, Dave Allen, Two Ronnies and Dick Emery. Ernie was the greatest....
