Since not living at home, I've had the BenQ as my TV since December 2018, running approximately 4-5hrs on weekdays and about 14hrs each day Saturdays and Sundays. I was concerned about the project heating up and getting damaged with such a heavy schedule, but surprisingly it doesn't get too hot and it's surpassed my expectations on that regard. 3D is AWESOME! if you're a 3D fan like me, you won't be upset with the quality and brightness of 3D films. Quick little bonus on the projector, it plays 2K content REALLY well. No lags or glitches. And extremely sharp.

thanks for the video. i've had the BenQ W1070 for several years and recently upgraded to the BenQ 2050A. it really is a great projector, especially for $700. it's just a little better across the board than the W1070 which was also a great projector that served me very well. the 2050A contrast is noticeably better which is really nice. and one of the things i really like about DLP and in particular the benQ is it's 3D performance. it's awesome.

So far I've been very happy with the BenQ HT2050a. I was originally concerned about the lower lumens but that hasn't been a problem. It's bright and provides great color contrast

MHL is a last-resort option. It doesn't handle high resolution video well, without video stutter in the different devices I've tried it with. Also, keep in mind, rated lumens vary quite a bit between mfrs. Epson tends to fair very well in this regard, having higher lumens in real-world view modes than many higher rated models. For instance, the Epson at 2500 lumens tends to actually be brighter than the Optoma 3500 lumen projectors in normal viewing modes. Projector Central is great at measuring these differences, and has quite a difference between the HT2050 and Epson 2150, with the estimated fL on a 150" screen at 18fL and 41fL respectively - using the widest angle (fL being a much better measure of real-world brightness than lumens) using their throw calculator. So it really depends on what sort of lighting you are dealing with. I'm in a 3-season room, with very high ambient light, so the real-world fL stat was extremely important, where in a dark room, it's a stat that can almost be ignored. So, I ended up with the Epson 3100, which was only about $100 more than the 2150, but is about 20%-25% brighter in testing, and has a quieter fan (due to the larger case size). For people making these comparisons that need to deal with environments that may not have perfect light-control, I would suggest adding another column to your wonderful sheet, [fL at 100"] (or whatever), using Projector Central's estimates based on their actual measurements. Also, the throw calculator will give you estimates for the amount of lens shift you will get, another reason I opted for the 3100, as it has a very large lens shift range, and also has horizontal shift (lacking in other devices).

Thank you for the great video! Could you also recommend a screen? Thanks!
@AdamMarr
@AdamMarr 5 жыл бұрын
@@znanyun that's hard to do, it depends on a ton of factors, the amount of light in the room, projector brightness, throw of the projector, etc. In a very dark room, you'll be almost as happy with a white wall as a $3k projector screen. Happier in some cases. Best thing to do is order a bunch of screen samples and make a poster board with them all taped on, and set it up in your viewing environment...

I just can never get on board with the 3lcd projectors of the Epsons with their disappointing black levels. Sure the colors pop out and are bright but for night time viewing, the gray black levels and screen door effect really take out the movie night experience. Gray screens do help a bit but not enough. The Benq 2050a does have a faster color wheel which makes the rainbow effects less noticeable compared to other dlp projectors of other brands. I'd have to choose Benq for its more natural accurate colors and darker black levels.

You people are wonderful... I appreciate the amount of effort that you put on your investigation and passing us those data... It definitely saves us lot of time... Bravo... Ok coming to the point, I've ordered BenQ ht2050A last week... I chose it against Epson because I feel BenQ suits my taste most.... I prefer natural presentation so I was inclined towards BenQ because the signature of all BenQ models had natural tone.... Another reason to pick BenQ over Epson... BenQ is DLP, which means Black levels will be better than 3LCD... So, contrast will be better on BenQ when compared to Epson... I was also curious to experience the BenQ's exclusive Cinematic colour feature and also it's colour reproduction using RGBRGB colour wheel...

I owned two projectors that where DLP .And guess what failed on both of them at different times ,well if you guessed the moving (spinning color wheel at 7200 rpm's) you'ed be right..And of course the warranty had run out...I have owned a LCD Projector now for 3-1/2 years now (1080p) with no rain bow effects or any color effects problems at all . I highly recommend any Projector with no moving parts .Unless you watch two projectors side by side you can.t see much different's (and most people don't) ....Ben-q and Epson both make excellent projectors for the money....but the technology is slightly different ....LCD IS BETTER.

The Epson is 300 bucks off as of this writing at Best Buy ($599). I had my heart set on the benq for almost a yr now, but that price got me thinking, and researching. Along with the price of the bulbs and better screen uniformity on the Epson (83% vs 63%), and zero rainbow effect, the Epson's looking mighty good. I'm hyper sensitive to uniformity so a great picture with bright spots or dark spots or rainbows is ultimately not a great picture. One question, would a big discount have swayed your decision? Of all the videos I've seen on the benq, It's still a great projector and by no mean off the table, but all things equal, that $150 I can save would buy a nice blu ray player. Decisions, decisions, decisions....greet video anyway.

When I upgraded from my Vankyo Leisure 510 I had to have a consultation with my very good friend Richard Liske about what make of projector I upgrade to between Benq or Epson and from what he said they had both at Myer when he was there but he mainly worked with the Epson's because they seem to work better for him when I was looking at the different Epson Home Cinema models some costed way more than what I wanted to spend so between the Epson Home Cinema 880 and the Home Cinema 1080 I went with the 1080 for a number of reasons for one thing the Home Cinema 1080 has dual HDMI ports where as the 880 only has a single HDMI port and I also like the fact that with the Home Cinema 1080 I can wirelessly screen mirror from my laptop or tablet and I can watch it in ambient lighting where as with the Vankyo Leisure 510 I had to wait until it got completely dark out to use it because the picture looked so wased out in ambient lighting another reason I got the Epson Home Cinema 1080 is that the Bulb and filter are the only things that have to be replaced every once in a while because the Vankyo Leisure 510 only has a lamp lifespan of 50.000 Hours and once the bulb goes on it there is no replacing the bulb in the Vankyo the Epson Home Cinema 1080 has a bulb life of 6000 hours in regular mode and 12000 hour in eco mode so that is at least 10 plus years of movie watching before having to replace the bulb and filter I also like the fact that the lens cover is built right into the Epson Home Cinema 1080 and that the contrast ratio is 16.0000 to1 and the color and white brightness are at both 3400 lumens I have to say I am very taken with the Epson Home Cinema 1080

You Re better going for the benq HT2050A, or the benq HT3050. I own both. If you have 3d movies or make your own 3d video. I will recommend the boblov 3D glasses. They are fully compatible and inexpensive. Some KZfaq pages upload stereoscopic 3D content. Changing the bulb is easy as well. The replacement bulb will run you about $120. Non oem work just perfectly. The benq fan is quiet. if you have a chromecast you will be okay.

Nice video...same dilemma as you had. I was also looking at $250 projectors and trying out a few from Amazon...all returned with in a day. I think ppl need to determine which use your using a projector. I thought about $1000 4K but thought I would wait a few years until price drops and tech catches up. So I broke it down to 2 projectors: BenQ TH585 (latest) VS. Epson 2150. I decided on 2150 based on price drop to $600 and the TH585 at reg price of $600. TH585 uses DLP and 2150 3 LCD's more superior for Home Cinema, I think TH585 is marked/tech to gamer's (more vivid colors but lower contrast and sharpness.) Since I'll be using it for movies and PC connectivity 80% of time I went with 2150 which is on par with higher end Epson's as some have suggested. I don't think you can go wrong either way and are both great projectors however, deciding your usage should determine your purchase.

Great vid!! I was just about to make my own spreadsheet so this is perfect. What do you think about the BenQ MH535 vs. Optoma hd143x??? Aside from horizontal keystone it seems the 2050 is a lot less bright on paper than the 535? I wanted to spend $200 - $600. I just bought a Chinese Xinda 1080 for $250 just to see what these claimed 5000 lumens and “4d” keystone look like but I’ll probably return it and get something more legit, so your input is super helpful, I’m leaning towards one of the BenQ’s.. just trying to see if the extra cost is worth it in the long run
@TheHelpfuldad
@TheHelpfuldad 5 жыл бұрын
I looked at the Optoma too but it didn't make the cut for me vs the 2 I put in this vid. I had a spreadsheet with like 10 diff models and the Optoma was on it. BTW I also tried a cheaper model for about $250 that claimed to have 4000 "Lux" but it was not comparison vs the quality pic/colors of the BenQ.

Couple things to keep in mind. Lumens can be anything they put on the box, some Chinese manufactures have straight up admitted to slapping a high number on there, because it helps sell the product. What you want is ANSI Lumens, which is a bit more official. For example, I have an Anker Mars II, which is 300 ANSI Lumens (more like 200 on Eco, when its on battery). A friend bought a "3000 Lumen" Chinese projector, and the 200 Lumen Anker is noticeably brighter. Also, even though the respected manufacturers generally measure ANSI Lumens, this also doesn't always mean much, as it's measured only in the brightest possible mode which you would probably never use, not a normal viewing mode. To use your example, the Optoma HD143X, which is 3000 Lumens, is really only 758 lumens in "Bright Cinema Mode" and 477 in the same eco mode. The Epson 2150, which is rated at a lower 2500 Lumens, is actually 1784 and 1231 lumens in those same modes, 2-3x brighter. As a side note, you also have to watch the actual native resolution on the cheap projectors, many say things like "Plays a 1080P HD image", when all that means is that it supports a 1080P source, but will actually only display it in 480P.

The benq is appearing to get the best reviews . But the other 2 have higher numbers in terms of contrast ratios and lumens. Part of my viewing will me outside on a black screen in some daylight . And it has been demonstrated that the optoma can pull that off. Maybe even the epson . But do you know if your projector can do the same? And also do the benq tend to blow out highlights? Also guy pulled it off watching a boxing match in still plenty of daylight outside with the optoma HD 146x kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aLucjal7y8une5s.html Your thoughts please
