The HDMI inputs on this unit are HDMI 2.0b (with HDCP 2.2), this unit should be 4K 60Hz limited (but can likely do 1080p @ 120Hz, not 4k 120Hz).
@DavidSusiloUnscripted

You are correct. I just tried it again, my PS5 was running 1080p/120

Black levels are very important for a high end projector. If this model cannot deliver good black levels that's a big drawback for such premium price. Wish BenQ had chosen 0.65 inch DMD chip that offers better native contrast and clarity. This one is using 0.47 inch older DMD chip.

You can’t seriously think $6K projector to be considered as “high end”. Even the Sony GTZ380 at $80K is barely touching the realm of “high end” projectors.
@sajmax6962
@sajmax6962 Ай бұрын
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted I don't think that's a fair statement! $6k is big amount when you consider that decent DLP and 3LCD projectors with 4K HDR are available under that price range. Definitely not value for money in my opinion! You can disagree!
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted Ай бұрын
@sajmax6962 look, the price of 4K projector ranges from $1K to $150K. I don’t think my $16K RS3200 to be in the “high end” area. Just like cars ranging from $20K to (on average for high end cars) $400K. It doesn’t make a $80K car high-end. As a reviewer, I have to be objective. And the fact remains $6K for a projector is not high end.

Agreed. Black levels seem the same as my regular Benq projector. Also, it isn't native 4K

Will w5800 give acceptable 200-inch 4k resolution. I have a romm 6.8 mm into 6.1 (4.75 into 2.13). How far from the wall to give 200-inch and will give good nits with high image. Advise?

You can have 200” from 22 feet away from lens to screen. Brightness is only 11 ftL. There is no budget projectors that can do 200” properly. Instead of having a big screen and sitting far away, it’s better to have 150” and sitting around 12 feet from the screen.

I own a BenQ LK970 and am looking to upgrade it to something even better. I have owned it now for 4 years and have been impressed with it colors and Lumens. Would you say that the BenQ W5800 is better and a great improvement over the BenQ LK970 or do you even know?

The W5800 is the best projector BenQ ever had for consumer projectors. It is truly the pinnacle of their entire offerings.

Nice pj, I do wish they had motorised a lens cover as well especially when seating position is directly below projector.

Having projectors with and without lens cover, the amount of dust gathered practically has no difference
@darkvader7231

@@DavidSusiloUnscripted I disagree as not everyone has a dedicated room for a home theatre, some of us have to make do with a living room/home theatre which means heavy usage and more dust/dirt which means more cleaning which in turn means more dust in the air that would inevitaby settle on the lens.
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted Ай бұрын
@darkvader7231 that’s okay. Your experience may be different than mine. I use projectors in my dedicated theatre, in my bedroom and in the living room/kitchen area. Never any problem with or without lens cover

From one country to another, the dust situation can vary greatly! Given the price increase, one could expect a lens cover!

Hi David, is there really that much difference between the w5800 and the ht 4550i? Especially given that they've gone back to using the .47 inch chip with the 5800...doesn't make sense to me
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted Ай бұрын
Hi Bryan, the DLP chip in a projector is only a small part of any projector’s performance. Lens quality, light source, video processing, tone mapping, they all lay very important roles too. Compared to my 4550, the lens quality in diameter and contrast is appreciably superior. Different algorithm in tone mapping and video processing make a big difference too. Remember, VW GTI, VW Golf R, Audi Q3, Audi A3, Audi S3, Porsche 718, they all share the same engine but their performances are all different.

@DavidSusiloUnscripted Gotcha, but unfortunately my budget will only stretch as far as the 4550i , I also have a heavily light controlled room, so pulling back its brightness should hopefully get me where I want it to be...🤞🤞

The 4550i is still a very capable projector. You won’t regret it.

A question regarding the black levels - if I prefer a darker picture, am I going to find that problematic with this projector? That price point is a sweet spot as far as I’m concerned.

People complaining about black levels on dlps.But do we see them so perfect in commercial cinema apart from Dolby cinema. ?I like exceptional sharpness and motion handling on DLPs,does this model have 3D?

Using the JVC NZ7/8/9 you will get Dolby Cinema black levels. And yes, you are right, DLP black levels are about the same level as regular cinema (non-IMAX, non Dolby Cinema)

The other screen material is dull and greyish? Lol you know the white your screen the lighter your blacks. It's been proven so many times, screens don't make much difference. $5000USD for material is ridiculous. Unless you are going for a black diamond latest gen. There is so many grey screens and you call it dull. Come on man, let's get be real

My professional experience of 25+ years beg to differ. Also the greyer the screen the more bluish the white will look like. There is a reason why the industry worldwide use a particular brand and model as their mastering standard. But you do you.
