This is the one car i've wanted for as long as I can remember. For British hand-made luxury, there is no equivalent and with the heritage of a Bentley now well preserved, that includes unmistakeable power and craftsmanship, this is the lone GT that I would purchase over and again for the rest of my life. It is so unique and stunning with power and braking to match its deserved aura. I'm so relieved they saved this marque as they have with Rolls and Land Rover. Rolling architecture that's understated and yet glorious at the same time. Only Bentley can do that! Great review Mr. Quirk.

This is as British as Bratwurst, and with an American engine, plus a load of other European countries chipping in back in the Rolls/Betley era... i'm not sure where you're getting the idea of British Heritage from. As for the "bulletproof in terms of quality" interior, and for quality as a whole, my aunt did near $20,00 in repairs in the first year including a load of electrical glitches. Good luck with that! Then she swapped it in for a Rangey/ Out of the frying pan ...

That's the conundrum with globalization that's made its way into the auto industry. What should be the country of origin overall regarding the diversity of its elements? Parts sharing isn't a bad thing. I remember Aston was using Ford AC compressors a while back. They were strong, reliable, and cheap (Ford has a strong presence in Britain), something perhaps a British compressor manufacturer may not have been able to replicate reliably or cost effectively. Bentley and other makes, while they use foreign parts in their vehicles, don't usually come out and announce the specific origin of each part their vehicles employ. The window sticker may say, "Vehicle has 40% foreign sourced parts," and then says, "Vehicle assembled in 'XYZ' country." My heritage comment stems from Bentley's storied history and where the car is now assembled in Crewe, UK with all the pride and influence of "fine English craftsmanship." It has a VW sourced W12 engine since VW took ownership of the company, not an American engine. Similarly as BMW took control of Rolls going back, they implemented their V12 into those cars until '08, but we still regard Rolls as British. The BMW engine was supposed to be a step up in reliability to the old British engine. To your point, Bentley is still receiving bad press for its questionable reliability with supposedly superior foreign parts. Land Rover had secured the rights to an old Buick 4.0L engine some 50 or so years ago and that engine in its various forms, propagated Land Rover vehicles for decades. It leaked and broke down. As you can imagine, as emissions laws became increasingly stringent, and the vehicles got heavier or more complex, incredibly that tired engine still remained under the bonnet until the more modern Jaguar sourced V8 got the nod. Yet we never regard the LR as anything but a British make. I hear you about the QC issues being the achilles heel of expensive British cars and SUV's. I hear from LR owners who can't wait to unload their SUV's for their frustration of reoccurring glitches. Btw, they are wealthy people who can afford any vehicle. It's really a shame. Chrysler, the US equivalent of Jaguar unreliability lore, has recently made strides itself, improving its QC year after year but they get harnessed with problems from time to time. I would purchase a long term warranty with any car manufacturer (I have a 5yr on my Toyota Tundra), but especially a car manufacturer with a stained history. Too bad your Aunt didn't have a good warranty to help with her outrageous repair bills! And if you're lucky to escape the pit of poor QC in an expensive car, you then have the high expense of it's mandatory maintenance.

Clarkson reckons the Aston Martin DB9/S is the best GT car in the world, and that is a brilliant car. But I reckon it's this. You have AWD, a huge boot and ample ground clearance, will clear any speed bump. You can go anywhere in this car.

the Bentley is British too... i think that's just Clarkson's opinion.

Yeah but there is some Ford plastic and headlights in the db9, Bentley is by far better in interior, reliability.

Around 50k these are tempting if properly sorted. It would be great if someone could provide an update/replacement for the navigation center. These cars really show their age with the info system.

That was the biggest puff piece I have ever seen and is hardly a guide. Absolutely no guidance as far as what to look for other than make sure the leather isn’t knicked. What are the common faults? What years to avoid? What are normal maintenance cost? What to look for? Any features to look for or stay away from? Those are guide questions. This is just an ad for the garage you filmed it at
