Dr. B: I chat on several drug forums for the purposes of hard reduction education. I frequently reference your videos when trying to explain addict thinking. There is so much to learn but few resources considering the epidemic. Your work is hopefully the beginning of a greater understanding of that state of mind. Also, thanks for speaking slowly and clearly. It's rare these days. I get a lot of great info from these videos because you are easy to understand.

So glad addiction has been given the correct definition. My junior year in college was hell. Immediately saw a cardiologist, nothing wrong. Next got a hypoglycemic test, nothing wrong. The 3rd Dr. was a shink, who stopped the panic cold with valium. I was able to finish the 5 yr. B.A./M.A. advanced clinical psychology degree. Do not know why they started; however, drugs were certainly a part of my healing. Lastly, I was able to get so much more done.

Just caught this post on the young man’s ordeal with Xanax. I’m 65 years old and a quadriplegic since I was 23. Severe anxiety and depression. Was put on Xanax and numerous antidepressants. Years later was put on 1.5 mg of Klonapin and 12mg of Subutex. Since April of 2023 I have tapered down the Subutex to 6mg a day. About same dose of Klonapin. I have never had any issues. Liver, Heart and lungs all doing well. No breathing problems. Just found out recently insurance will pay for Sublocade. I know that’s not a whole lot of information for you But would you consider starting someone like me on the low dose of Sublocade so I can get off of both medications in time.

Hi Dr. B I very new to phone technology. Anyway I’m the 65 year old that’s on 6mg Subutex 2mg 3 times per day. I.5 mg am 1mg pm Klonapin. Got the ok from insurance for Sublocade. I have never taken any street drugs was put on subutex mainly for sever spasms and severe burning of the lower extremity’s. Tried Baclofen and others no luck. Just got severe anxiety from being 65 and on subutex. Plus a lot of guilt feelings. Should I try Sublocade and see if the spams and burning has come down to tolerable levels?? The subutex does help with both. Oh I’m the quadriplegic that text you about 2 weeks ago. Thanks Dr B.

If I may comment I think that Dr's stay away from Benzodiazapines because of the dependency of these substances & the synergistic affects when combined with any other depressant. It is the smart move & I congratulate the Dr's for staying away from such addictive substances. If we learned anything from the Valium craze it would be this exact point.

Q: "How come most doctors are so afraid of benzos even though you can show them you've been on them for years in the past. ?" A: Believe it or not ... most doctors say that they are afraid to prescribe benzos now because of the so called "Opioid epidemic", but I don't really buy into all that B.S. ... I truly believe that it's because they are being monitored by the DEA and they are afraid of losing their medical license or getting jail time because of "over prescribing" pain meds or benzodiazepines. All the while, someone that has been cut off from their pain meds or benzos are shooting up with heroin that is laced with fentanyl and has a much higher chance of over dosing because they don't actually know how potent their medicine is. What a broken system ... SMFH

Because they are uneducated and really don’t understand benzodiazepine’s. They just assume you are an addict or could become one. Dr. B care’s, he pays close attention to what work’s and what doesn’t work in a humane way. A lot of doctor’s lose their empathy. Instead researching more to better help. They take a one to two day course about benzodiazepines and that become’s law for them. Black and white thinking.

Hi Dr. B! Could you elaborate on what "relief of cravings" means to you? I am on 16 mg per day of buprenorphine and am doing okay I guess, but I still pretty much constantly think about dope. I haven't sought any out or anything, but it is constantly on my mind. Would you consider that that I am still having cravings, or just natural coming off? Thanks 💕

imo it sounds like a habit thing for you. i went through and kinda still do have the same problem. it's because we like to get high and are used to functioning and doing things while we are high. it takes a while to get over. as long as your not feeling withdrawl symptoms you'll be fine and eventually get used to functioning as a sober person.

When you on Buprenorphin, you should not have any cravings after the first couple of days. Its probably not your body but your mind. I was on Buprenorphine first but since it makes you feel very sober and clear, i hated this feeling and had problems with panikattacs and not feeling very well. I stopped the buprenorphine all the time and went back to heroin whenever I had money. I switched to methadon now and you feel way less sober but it helped me to stay away from H. Suboxone was definitly way easier to quit though. If you wanna get sober and can manage to stay on Bup, you should definitly do that. Once you have no Heroin use and are stable on bup, the cravings get way less and it has a strong anti depressant effect to it.

Pressed pills fucked everything up for everyone. Doctors don't wanna prescribe benzos and they go on the street to get them and they're pressed with really strong RC benzos or fentanyl and you're fucked. Back in the day pressed pills would've never been a thing. Unless they're pressed with etizolam which is kind of similar to Xanax but you can never tell. Heroin is one thing . Getting off street benzos is very hard. The complexities and lack of knowledge by Dr's is rife. You can only taper using real prescription diazepam. Try finding a Dr willing to do that. And then getting them to work with you is near on impossible. They want to taper you at a set pace when it should be individualized according to the patients withdrawal symptoms. Plus tolerance is found at sedation but not overly sedated when taken at night. I was lucky. I had to buy people's prescription diazepam and gained knowledge from the internet . I tried to cold turkey for 7 torturous months before I reinstated and found tolerance at 20mg diazepam. Then a further 7 months tapering. 9 months out about 80 percent better. Avoid alcohol caffeine and sugar .
