Cleaning and lubricating your gun to keep it in perfect working order and reduce wear and tear.I think you will find it informative. Do not be scared to put a fair amount of grease on the knuckle and pins. If you do not clean your gun often then use oil. Hope you find the video useful and if so please look up my other videos on shooting at " youtube Roger Pace Channel" Thank You

Roger, greetings from Ohio, USA. I thank you for your thoughtful comment about the lever position. I just purchased a new 686 SPI and cleaned it before taking it out to the range. I was concerned about the lever position and now after seeing your video and hearing your comments about the lever position my mind is at ease. My lever is in exactly the same position as yours. Thanks again!

I have the same gun in 28" barrels. I shoot trap, skeet, 5 stand, and sporting clays with it. Great gun. I loved the micro fiber towel tip. I keep one in my range kit but never thought about pulling it down the barrel. I'll be using paracord instead of a ribbon though. :) I pull the bore snake through mine after I shoot, before I put the gun into the travel case.

floyd I've got a proper cleaning kit with those little cloth patches...I just find you have to use too many patches and it takes too long...I just run the cloth through the barrels a couple of times and it cleans them beautifully...the cloth needs a fair bit of muscle to pull it through ...if it's too tight I just cut a little bit of cloth off...stay well...Roger

When storing, is there a way to close the action without tensioning the hammer springs or are snap caps needed? Is it not necessary to use bronze brushes to clean the bore? Thanks for your no nonsense videos and getting straight to the point without numbing intro or background music.
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 4 жыл бұрын
Michael...I always use snap caps...as far as cleaning the bore i do not like to use those abrasive brushes on such a highly polished barrel...lately i just push through tissues or paper towels through the barrels a few times...i spray the barrels with gun cleaner then push through the tissues ...after 5 or 6 times the barrels are clean...but...make sure you dont leave gun cleaner in the barrels and that there are no tissues left in the barrel!!!

I have just finally acquired my silver pidgeon and not having cleaning rods for it yet I used 100lb fishing leader with a slip knot and an appropriate amount of t shirt material cut to size with a new patch on the surface layer after each pass and I must say I will probably stick with it as the bore has come up wonderfully clean and polished. I must admit to not really caring how long it takes though as I enjoy the process.

Thank you for the informative video Roger, thou it was published sometime ago, I just ran across it as I have just purchased my first Silver Pigeon 1, I learned much from your video, thank you. A question if you are still there, I find the for-end catch lever to be very stiff to open. It has a rather narrow width and sharp edges, it is so stiff to pull with my finger I cannot apply enough force, so I resort to use a short piece of soft wood to pry it open. Is there a way to oil or grease it ? Will it break in after usage ? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.thanks again for your efforts.
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 3 жыл бұрын
Steve...tight is good but it shouldn't be that tight...oil it really well and also put oil on the hinge that the fore end attaches to on the barrels...open it up with your finger and see if that makes any difference...as a last resort you can use some 1200 wet and dry sand paper to smooth any rough edges that you can see...if there's no improvement then get it looked at...don't pry it open with the wood. It will loosen with use but only open it with your finger ...oil well the hinge on the barrels. Stay well!!!

@@rogerpace9322 Thank you kindly for the info Roger, prior to reading this I applied a tiny bit of gun grease using a Qtip. I chose grease as I thought it would outlast the oil, pulse it is not much exposed to the elements. I applied it to the release catch contacted area only, a very small amount, it is not near the wood as it is well recessed in the metallic catch assembly, also a very thin layer to the lug on the barrel where they mate. Now I can simply use my finger, works well. I will continue to watch and share your videos. Thank you again for the efforts. Much appreciated.

Roger , do you oil the outside of the barrels/breach and leave a light film on when storing in your gun safe between shoots , and what about the timber stock and for-end , do you use anything to preserve the timber ?
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 8 жыл бұрын
+Nokharma Yes I oil the outside of the barrels with gun oil and then wipe them down with a cloth... my gun is fairly new and a few weeks ago I used a tiny bit of furniture oil on the stock and fore end then wiped it off with a cloth...I try to avoid getting gun oil on the timber... they say the oil will make the timber go soft ...but I think it would take many years for the oil to do any real damage to the wood...when the gun is in its case I store it with the receiver facing down so that oil does not run back into the mechanism...I used to have an old shotgun that was drowned in oil and the timber was never affected...the oil just makes the wood go a bit darker...best wishes and happy shooting...Roger

A normal gun cleaner will get rid of the surface rust...wipe it off with a cloth...all the metal bits need to be gently wiped over with a slightly oily rag and that will stop the rust from coming back you can also buy special wiping cloths to wipe down your gun every time you use it and put it away...stay well!

Great video and very informative! !! But personally i hate to use grease as grease just attract dirt witch then forms and abrasive paste !! As you do mention !! So i avoid it as much as possible! !! In fact grease in any rifle is a big big NO NO !! So i just clean and lubricant with the g96 as it has all 3 components in it !! Cleans , protect and lubricant! !! I only use a tiny tiny tiny bit of grease on the hinge pins and that is is !! Mind you though i do shoot in some harsh dusty places at times !!! But anyway just thought id add the way i do it !!

Gabriel...sorry to take so long in answering but i did not see youe question...yes I use furniture polish on the wood...it cleans it and gives it a bit of a shine...the barrels i just spray them with a gun cleaner and lubricant and wipe it down if the gun gets wet it's important to oil between the barrels so you do not get rust forming... thanks for watching and stay well !!!

Thank you for taking time to do a video.. but please please do not grease your shotguns. Grease attracts dirt and then every time you shoot deposits get trapped in the grease so when you reload it scratches and abrasions your gun damaging it. Only a very very light coating of oil for rust prevention is needed. The parts of your shotgun will never ware out even with no oil because they are built with hardened metals that will never ware each other out but only work better with time. Your gun will last a lot longer with no grease. I hope this doesn't anger anyone as we are all here to help each other. Many happy years of shooting everyone!

@@rogerpace9322 He's right thou, grease is bad for the gun, it will form an abrasive. Use the beretta oil only. But you are also right. Metal on metal is bad. With the oil only the gun should last you 100 000 shots or more before you need a new set of hingepins or any gap adjustmens. Another thing is my 686 SP is not only for skeet, I hunt alot with it in -10 to -25 degrees, that grease would be hard as hell.

I won the 25 target double barrel with a score of 23/25 and I came second in the 50 target double event..in C grade. I use no 8's in the bottom barrel and 71/2 in the top barrel. The beretta sporter does not come with a full ckoke otherwise i would use improved modified and full ie 3/4 and full stay well...Roger

Just came back from my Beretta dealer/gunsmith. You should NOT - as in NEVER - grease or lubricate the locking pins or holes that they go into. As backwards as it sounds, doing so can actually decrease their usefulness. I had to have mine replaced after just 11,000 rounds.....
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 5 жыл бұрын
I guess that's because as they wear the pins go further into the hole...very interesting...good on you!

I hunt dove in the deserts of Arizona with my 687 and if I used that much grease on the gun, it would be so caked up with fine dust and gunk that it would make the gun worse for cleaning. All that grease literally everywhere is an attractant to fine dust and that’s not good for the action of the gun.
@rogerpace9322

I had (still have) a defective silver pigeon 20 ga ..fails to fire the second barrel about 1/3 of the time... the company representative would not even discuss further repair or replacement after an alleged repair effort that was not successful ...and doubt it was even halfway attempted.......never would have imagined the rudeness of the Beretta representative....I'll never buy another...never. I've dealt in firearms for some 40 plus years here in middle Tennessee and northern Alabama with many different firearm makers who were more than willing to do what was necessary ...to make that rare repair or replacement....but not Beretta..not them...acted as if they were too good to help........I still get angry thinking about the way I was treated...the gun is practically unsaleable and in fact, is too dangerous to use .....buyer beware of this company if you ever encounter an issue.
