Under the old system, B&S were essentially tied with S&P going into the long program. Had this been under the new system, this program would have given them what would probably have been an insurmountable lead going into the long. Their short program was that good.

My favorite pairs skate of all time! The music, is spell binding and they are both so beautiful. I agree if the new system of scoring was in place they would have w on and the Canadians, also fantastic, would have been second.

This is the best pairs short program ever, and I was there in the arena in Salt Lake City to watch it. Lucky me! B&S were in a class by themselves, and in my opinion, the only gold medallists of the 2002 Olympic games.

Perfection!!!...no doubt they were the best...if this had been judged with the new judging...they still would have won by a large margin since this short program had absolutely no mistakes and their technical superiority would have been rewarded!!

Lady Caliph by Morricone is amazing.

Should've received perfect 6.0s and a marathon mile ahead of everyone else in the competition after this sublime performance. The Canadians were no where in the same league as them and they were lucky that Olympics wasn't under the open COP scoring. The Russians would have blown them and everyone else out of the water after the SP and would have won this Olympics by at least 40 points!!

I still cannot believe people thought S/P should have won gold in Salt Lake. Yes, B/S had mistakes in the LP, but the total sum of work goes far beyond a few mistakes surely???? I have no doubt that under the new scoring system, B/S would have won handily in spite of the mistakes in the LP. The flow of their blades was unique as was the softness in their knees. Their connecting movements were by far the most complex of any pair in 2002. Just bizarre that anyone really could have thought they did not deserve to win. Look at both LPs. It is clear which one is far trickier.

One of the best pairs short programs ever! So beautiful. I think their costumes look a little cheap and don’t add to the beauty of the program. But they still shine so bright here.

I just realized that the commentator mentioned Elena's accident being in 1966 instead of 96! She looks good for her age! I've watched this a zillion times, I can't believe I never caught that. :)

Back in 1966!!!!! And these people criticise triple jumps, height and length on landings and they can't even get the the decade right on basic reporting! Bring in real reporters, please! This is delicious. Love this programme. Sheer perfection.

The program was magnificent, but I really didn't like the death spiral, her position was really "upright"! However, this remains a piece of art, especially the movements at 1:29 and the ending pose!
