I have both standard HMR in 6.5 creedmore and Browning Hells Canyon Speend in 6.5 PRC. Both make clovers at 100 yards both have no problem at 500 yards with 10 steel. HMR is more fun to shoot, Browning better in the hills for my old body. Dont regret either.

I have the browning in 300win mag and I also don’t like that the stock is flexible but I still think the stock is quality and sturdy. I shoot 1/2 inch to 4/5 an inch all day with that thing it just has unbelievable accuracy. I out shoot my buddy with a custom rifle with the browning. I highly recommend the browning but the bergara is also a good choice.

I received my 6.5 Creed HMR in the mail _yesterday_ ...what a great day! Initial impression...trigger seems very light [I don't have a lot of experience with bolt guns, so maybe that's just me]. _Much_ heavier than my Ruger Scout rifle...that thick barrel, I guess. The metal AI mags I have for the Ruger fit in the Bergara fine, so that's a major plus...but the plastic mags do not, which is odd. Maybe I can tweak them a bit. I managed to finds a few varieties of ammo, so I hope to get out to the range next week and see how it shoots...good fun! Thanks for all these reviews, Mr. AORR...Bergara should thank you too.😉😉

QD cups on the Bergara. I hate sling studs. I spun up a forstner bit and carved a hole in the stock of my Marlin so I could screw and epoxy a QD cup in the rear and changed out the forend to install QD cup there as well to run a 2 point sling set up. So much easier and a lot faster to get gun to shoulder when in the bush shooting pigs.

I own 2 premier pro's and 1 B14, they're all amazing out of the box accurate. Never ever put cheap rings on these...if you hear someone unable to get a group(this is from experience) it's usually the shooter and his scope mounting ability.

Nice review. However, I wished you reviewed the Bergara HMR Wilderness instead of the standard HMR. It has a thicker barrel and should in theory be even more accurate. I'm planning to get one in .300 PRC, so I might be able to comment on it's performance later this year.

You’re knocking the accuracy of the Browning off hand loads that it might not like. Whenever I see people asking what ammo or reload data shoots best, it strikes a nerve with me. Every rifle has its own personality on what it likes best. You could have the same exact rifle side by side and shoot the same ammo and one could love it and the other hate it.
@EpikArms
@EpikArms 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, absolutely, thats why i completed the full load development twice and attempted to validate data. Yes i could have tried every bullet design and weight and tried all the different powders, but realistically its not feasable. So i do the load development sometimes twice, and already thats many hours worth of work into a rifle.
@kenstirling5348

I think one of the reasons the browning flexes it’s muscles at longer ranges is the longer barrel length. A longer barrel would give higher fps and so variables like wind and stuff would have slightly less effect since the bullet is going faster. That’s purely speculation though and I could be wrong. Both rifles seem pretty great.

I agree, 90 deg.bolt throws are relics. BUT they are easier to produce than a 3 lug. My BrowningX-Bolt Pro trigger averages 2.76 lbs.on my Wheler gauge. OK for hunting but yeah, a Trigger Tech trigger is the best, IMHO. GET AN MCARBO TRIGGER SPRING FOR THE BROWNING TRIGGER (With Browning Trigger Tech or Timney you lose the bolt lock!)

@bobvi5490

I'm not sure you can appreciate the virtues of the Bergara without considering the aluminum mini-chassis within the composite stock, connecting both sling swivels (for the bipod and sling) with the action bedding pillars back through the pistol grip. You discuss the option of buying just the barrelled action without pointing out the down side of sacrificing a really well engineered stock that's included in the price point of the HMR. Oh, and the AICS pattern magazines are available in a three-round version that barely protrudes from the stock in case you're worried about slinging it in the field for hunting.

I got the Bergarra 6.5, love it. The stock has an aluminum chassis moulded inside hence the rigidity. And what l like about 6.5 is you can shoot it alot and recoil feels like a 22, why would you need a brake?
@EpikArms

Breaks are generally used to reduce recoil. Additionally they are used to reduce muzzle jump to you can spot your hits and get follow up shots on target

The inconsistency between the Browning on paper at short range and on steel at 900 meters is very suspect. I can't think of anything that would make things improve with distance, but, I can think of several things that would make it worse. Was everything else the same between both tests? Did you have the same ammo from the same lot number? Was your scope tight? Was your setup the same?

They have made a straight back pull bolt. I believe savage. Check it out. I agree. 90 degree bolts suck. Catch all the time. There is a phenomenon with long range where some guns at 100-200 yds open up more but then hold better at long range once the bullet stabilizes and some that shoot tighter up close destabilize farther out. Idk why exactly but ive seen some guns with certain bullets open up at short ranges but then hold further out.

Great comparison. I’d love to see you do an explainer video on all the aspects that make a great long range rifle (light trigger, etc.) As a hunter (deer stalker) I don’t really understand why having such a light trigger would be of benefit. Also, do you think moderators, muzzleflashes, etc. make a difference in precision shooting? Just a suggestion. Keep it you man and I loved the video.
@EpikArms
@EpikArms 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, you are right, as a hunter a 3lb trigger is perfect. While if you were doing benchrest or varmint shooting a lighter trigger would be prefferable. I cannot speak of moderators, but muzzle breaks have their place in hunting and target shooting. For one thing it reduces recoil, for another it reduces muzzle jump making it easier to get follow up shots on target and spotting your hits.

@EpikArms
@EpikArms 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Viking, yes the T3x is probably the best or one of the best barelled actions out there. In terms of "lasting" that will all depend on how much you use it. If you are only going to hunt, this gun will last forever. It you intend on doing target shooting, assume the barrel will last between 6-8 thousand round, that would be the case with all barrels.
@williamgoldston5803
@williamgoldston5803 2 жыл бұрын
T3x has a great action and usually outstanding accuracy. They are light weight and have heavy recoil in caliber so you may want a limbsaver recoil pad and I would want a threaded barrel in order to suppress but not a requirement. Tikka is a great choice imo.

hi Yukon, there are so many factors that will play a part when it comes to SD and ES, from my observations doing my reloading the exact same way I have noticed my most expensive rifles through the load development had much more consistent SD than budget rifle for example the Tikka UPR that we reviewed a while back the worst it almost ever did per group was 25 FPS SD while on cheaper guns i've seen 100FPS. im no gunsmith but that is the conclusion that I have arrived at; that likely it has much to do with the barrel's quality

From PRS standpoint I can see a bit more favors to B14... But when it comes to hunting...the X-Bolt comes from Miroku, who does make excelent firearms, and as the Desert Dog said, is the best Japanees firearm producer. Comparing apples to apples Miroku is way above Bergara with the fit and finish, not to mention other XBOLT atributes. FYI I'm not just praising my own tool, go to the shoop and look at them brand new side by side, or compare them after few years of use. Bergara has had more than a few lemons, and from what I hear there are still QC issues.

Somthing looks wrong with your begara or the ammo you are using, the bolt action on those is like butter it shouldnt be that stiff. ive just gone through a similar issue with my 223 and it turned out to be a head spacing problem which has been rectified and now bolt action is smooth.

Why does the bergara get a chance of load development but the browning doesnt? Going off of what you said.

@@EpikArms you did. But at one point you said you just had to refine the load on the Bergara but with the Browning you just say its not consistent. Sounds like Bergara bias

Sorry, but I’m new to bolt actions and can’t tell if those emoji’s are meant to be sarcastic. Is the Tikka actually a solid choice for this style gun?
@EpikArms
@EpikArms 2 жыл бұрын
@viking, the tikka is a better all around gun than the browning, although the actions is marginally less smooth on the tikka, it is more consistant for accuracy, has a better trigger (that you wont need to upgrade) and there are tons of aftermarket options. Such as stocks and chasis, for the money you would spend initially on a browning, use the same $ to take a basic tikka t3x varmint and put into a chassis such as the xrs or oryx chassis. You will be far further ahead.
