We review the Bergara B14 Hunter in a 6.5 Creedmoor. Does it really stand up against their 1.0" MOA?

I have this exact rifle in 6.5 CM. Its a great shooter. Smooth action and well built. The only problem I have had is the internal box magazine. Its very stiff and difficult to load at times. Has gotten a bit better over time but still can be fussy to load ammo. other wise its excellent and well worth the money IMO. I'm so impressed with it that I just bought a B-14 Wilderness Ridge in .308.

I have this exact rifle. It is lights out. My favorite rifle by far. I take it everywhere through everything. It's a true workhorse. And don't let the 6.5 Creedmoor fool you. For deer and antelope, it's a stone cold killer with Hornady eld-x ammo.

I just bought the Bergara B-14 in 30-06 spg based on the good reviews it got from this channel. I also considered the Weatherby Vanguard but the “cheap” safety on it put me off and so I chose the Bergara. It’s amazing that such a small thing can swing your decision.

So I bought this gun today from Sportsman’s Warehouse here in Phoenix and watched several of your videos on the review of the guns that you chosen. It was a tie for me between the Weatherby and the Bergara B14 Hunter. Except for this occasion I was looking at the Wetherby vanguard meat eaters edition rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor versus the Bergara after handling both rifles I could immediately tell the Bergara is the better rifle when it comes to aesthetics feel and quality. Keep in mind the Weatherby was no slouch but the Bergara just felt better the safety was nicer and felt smoother compared to the Weatherby which was a stamped steel switch which wasn’t quite as nice and the soft coating on the shoulder stock and hand guard on the Bergara Was much nicer and very grippy. Lol Even My girlfriend thought the Bergara was the nicer rifle and she’s never hunted. Keep in mind I haven’t shot this new rifle yet but I am super excited to get a scope on it and take it to the range

There is a weird phenomenon going on with bergaras. The vast majority of people using them sounds very satisfied, often reporting custom rifle like accuracy. But on several forums sometimes a few "influent" guys pop up and literally start throwing s..t to bergara, with a lot of hanger and committment, getting even to say that these rifles are so bad that they would never own or work on one or even use parts for builds. To me it seems that these guys are actively trying to bash Bergara, maybe on the payroll of someone who could benefit from this. Emotional involvement in defending something we like is understandable, emotional involvement and committment in bashing a brand is more difficult to undestand if there is not some interest on the table. It wouldn't be the first time anyway

Lord knows I can't get enough of my B-14 Hunter, quite honestly I'm shocked yall didn't just come out and call it the winner of your best rifle under $750 challenge since it came down to it and the weatherby and in your original review of the weatherby its final shot of each load would leave the grouping. Just an observation. Anyway, question, what brand are those plastic rifle rest stands you used in this video?!

They have since also made them in .22-250 and I bought one, it's great. Feels like a more expensive rifle. Even the cheapest ammo I can find groups barely over 1 MOA, and I've shot a few groups around 0.8-0.85 MOA with Hornady Varmint Express. Excited to reload some 75gr BTHP and see what it can really do at longer range. I will say, Barnes 55gr TSX factory loads were 5-7 MOA in my rifle. That has been my only problem with it though. My next rifle will likely be another Bergara.

I have this exact rifle in .30-06. Great rifle, very strong safety, easy to use, for hunting the hinged floorplate is a feature. The trigger is light, bolt action is smooth. It is a quality, basic rifle. I added a foam cheekweld as the stock is too low. For the price this is a nice step up in quality from the cheap 300-400 plastic rifles. Considerations...the bolt is a 90 degree bolt, so it is not as low angle as say, the Tikka. Not an issue for me. On the flip side, the build quality of this feels much nicer than the equivalent t3x.

I own two less expensive CVA Cascades made for CVA by Bergara in 450 Bushmaster. They both shoot my reloads absolutely phenomenally accurate. I bought one for myself shot so great I then bought one for my son for public land deer hunting. Absolutely doggone shame the CVA Cascade doesn't come in LH as I would buy a 3rd one for my youngest son who is left handed. But I would rate fit and finish of the made for CVA by Bergara CVA Cascade an excellent all around value for the money rifle.

I disagree. Bergara is all about PR gimmicks. They have terrible QC. Apologies for the lengthy story. Last October, I bought a B-14 Wilderness in 308 for my daughter after reading numerous positive online reviews. I was impressed with its looks and handling. Upon bringing the rifle home, I checked the screw torque and barrel channel clearance, which seemed fine. I then mounted a one-piece rail, Nightforce rings, and a VX3i scope using a scope leveling kit and torqued them to specification. At the range, I was getting 6''-12'' "groups" with three different types of factory ammo at 100 yards. Something was clearly wrong. I went back home, removed the scope, and double-checked the base. Everything seemed in order. I suspected the scope, so I swapped it out, but the results were the same. I even tried three different handloads without success. By then, I had fired around 100 rounds through the rifle. Although I had followed the recommended break-in procedure and cleaned the rifle every 10 rounds, I decided to thoroughly remove copper fouling since the rifle seemed to foul more than expected. When I lifted the rifle by the barrel, I felt some movement. To my shock, the barrel was barely tight-almost loose! I packaged the rifle and returned it to the dealer. They sent it off for repairs. Due to delays caused by COVID and general incompetence on Bergara's part, I am still waiting for the rifle to be returned. I contacted customer service yesterday, expressing my reluctance to receive the rifle back and requesting a refund. However, I was bluntly dismissed. The manager seemed unconcerned about a rifle being repeatedly fired with a loose barrel, claiming there was no reason to worry about the barrel tenon threads or receiver threads being stressed. When I mentioned the excessive headspace, he brushed it off as insignificant, stating that the worst-case scenario would be a light primer strike and a misfire. Unconvinced, I inquired about receiving credit towards a different rifle or the same model, but my request was denied. The manager did offer me $200 worth of Bergara-branded sweatshirts as a consolation. Additionally, I proposed that they provide me with caps so I could brand represent for them in compensation for the wasted ammo.

Which put the scope a inch off of the barrel. They gave me the factory rings so installed those. It had a Vortex scope on it that I couldn’t get sighted in so I sent the scope back to the factory and they sent me a new one. They said the scope was tightened done too much. Max. 18 lbs. Why did you mount the scope so high. I noticed your cheak wasn’t touching the stock. We’re those see through rings?

I have the same rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Mine would crater and pierce primers with factory ammo and moderate handloads. To much clearance in the firing pin hole. I sent the bolt to Gre-Tan rifles , had the firing pin hole bushed and new firing pin installed , 143.00 dollars later problem solved .I am not the only one who has had this problem , seems to happen mostly with the 6.5 creeds. I have heard Bergara reduced the the firing pin hole diameter to solve this problem in post 2018 rifles. I like everything else about the rifle, just be careful if you buy a used one. The firing pin issue could be why they got rid of it.

I have narrowed my choice down to a Ruger American as my budget rifle and this Bergara as my higher end rifle. Do you think the extra 150/200 is worth it for this gun?
@Lq32332
@Lq32332 4 жыл бұрын
I bought this rifle used for ~$400 in 6.5 creedmoor and I can tell you I love it. Worth it. I love the texture grippy feeling and the trigger is wonderful. The American is also a great choice. I would handle both and pull the trigger. Feel the material etc.

Sounds like you want the Bergara B14 Wilderness Ridge…has basically everything you want except maybe the weight…7-1/2 - 8 lbs no scope. If you don’t absolutely have to have the threaded barrel there’s the Wilderness Hunter that has everything else and is 7 - 7-1/2 lbs.

I'm looking at the b14 ridge after reading Jim's page about best rifles around 850 ish. My only hesitation is finding the differences between the Bergara b14 and the CVA cascade. I could save 200$ and get a lighter gun still with a bergara barrel, quality trigger, and fiber reinforced stock.... can someone tell me the main differences?

@scotteger6271
@scotteger6271 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough call, as the HS stocks are very nice on those particular Howa rifles. That said, see if you can find both, handle them, work the touch points (bolt, safety, trigger, mag/floor plate release, etc). You might find that one is just a little more you than the other.
