Berkeley was the first city in the Bay Area to recognize that its citizens live on Ohlone land by revising street signs to read "Welcome to Berkeley, Ohlone Territory." This effort was spearheaded by City Councilmembers Cheryl Davila and Sophie Hahn.
After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, people around the country painted city streets with "Black Lives Matter." The Berkeley City Council passed a resolution to paint two downtown streets with "Black Lives Matter" and "Ohlone Territory." Some enthusiastic Berkeley High students painted Black Lives Matter in front of their school before the City was even able to block off the street.
Two years and a pandemic later, Ohlone activists and their allies were able to complete the street paintings. On May 22, 2022, they touched up Black Lives Matter and added the Ohlone Territory mural on the other side of City Hall, designed by artist David Solnit.
We bring you these highlights from a beautiful spring day.

The land belongs to you, those who reverence for life needs no money and wage slavery. Those who did not have to hold a job to eat are the people of who kept the earth and all it is grandeur in tact for generations to come and not just people but for the spirits of all living things. This is the foundation that we need to get back to and teach the value of life over any what is considered rare or precious metals or call that which is living nothing more than a resource.

Wow that's awesome. I have a tremendous respect for the Native Americans. My ancestors were wrong and they did horrible things. I agree with you as a human being. 💞 I apologize that you have to keep fighting the white man. Peace, respect and blessings to you and your tribe.

The tribes of Europe (whites) went through the same process as the native Americans, and the blacks from Africa, we lost everything as well. This isn't about blacks vs whites, its not about skin colour, it's about the destruction of traditional cultures everywhere.

@@jimhere1 because people were brainwashed, it took 500 years. In the same way native people are brainwashed in the US and have lost their way. Its the same process.
