This video demonstrates how rapid progress had been made in just a decade since the end of the war. A pity that nothing in the Soviet sector was filmed.

Rupprecht, Crown Prince of Bavaria was born in 1869, and died on August 2 of this year (1955). Its incredible that saw the german empire, ww1, the weimar republic, ww2, and this old new post war (cold war divided germany).

So cool to see the Kaiser wilhelm memorial church before the the “hatbox and lipstick” addition. The city had to tear down that small spire and the arch to accommodate the additions.@ 3:48.

Thank you uploading this wonderful film. WE visied a few years back and loved it. I think Berlin is one of the great cities of the world and it's a great shame the UK has voted to leave the union. There's not much an individual can do about it now but hopefully when the people of the UK see sense (in my opinion) we will join again. Peace to Europe: Mike

It looks more spacious, quiet & developed compared to what it is today. It's funny to think how time sometimes takes us more in the negative direction than positive. Overpopulation, over-industrialization etc.

Where exactly do people think a fast rebuild has occured?? The only monument that looks new is the Russian monument which was erected by the Soviets pretty much after the war ended. Brandenburg gate is still in ruins, apartment buildings are still in ruins. The Olympic stadium was never affected so ofcourse it still looks good. The Reichstag which suffered was not shown, and the remaining buildings and infrastructure you see were probably also not affected. Reality is that not much was rebuilt until the 90's, East Berlin was still shabby up until the wall came down.

I noticed many comments here admiring the ability of the German people to rebuild Germany. I would like to remind everybody it was not the Germans who rebuild Germany it was the Marshall plan and America. But for the Marshall plan Germany would have starved and that was what Europe wanted Vengeance and starvation just like they did after the first world war. Only this time the United States stepped in and rebuilt Germany.
