Guys, great video about a city that I love and visit as frequently as I can. Answering your two questions: First, the Flak Tower in the Humboldthain was covered, believe it or not, with rubble fro destroyed buildings. The occupying forces in that area (the Soviets) soon discovered that the towers were so solidly built that they would be extremely hard to destroy, and it would be easier to cover it up with rubble, thus making an artificial hill. Close to 80% of all structures in the central districts had been destroyed during the bombing raids and the final battle, so there was plenty of rubble. About the Church of Reconciliation at the Bernauer Strasse memorial site, the recording on the site says that it was destroyed simply because it was in the way of the East German guards' field of vision. Another nice video. I like your style. I loved Berlin too. Totally surprised me. Took the tram/train(?) out to where treaties were signed and Europe divided up after the war. The parkland and buikdings there were amazing. Thanks again for sharing!

Nice video guys, very interesting history there. Pity you couldn't find any Spaetzle: a German friend used to make those for us some years back, always enjoyed them. Cool article on your visit to Swansea in my local newspaper (South Wales Evening Post) today. Very interesting read. Finally, thanks for my postcard: look forward to seeing the vlogs from Riga.

I've been several times to Berlin and love the place. Not a great idea to be relying on your credit card though. Yes, you can find places to use it, but cash is preferred there. Plus, assuming it's a US card, you might not be getting a very good $:€ exchange rate, plus there's likely to be fees. I tend to use a FairFX Currency Card (others are available) pre-loaded with €uros. It might save you a bit of money on your future travels.

Spätzle are popular in Southern Germany as well as in Alsace, France, so my guess is they're more difficult to find in East Germany. If you ever do Christmas in Alsace (and you should) they're everywhere, you can buy them off the street, with grilled chestnuts or choucroute (sauerkraut).

Been in Germany almost a year and haven't managed to make it to Berlin haha. Someday! I tried spetzel a couple times and I can't get myself to like it, my husband really liked it though. We tried that same beer in our German beer tasting video! Too funny 😛

Spaetzle is killer with some butter! It's actually super easy to make if you don't find it before you leave. You just need a spaetzle basket or something like it for cooking (it drops the dough in tiny blobs into boiling broth).

Hi Frank! On the vlog we'll be headed to Riga next, then Tallinn, Budapest, Bangkok and then more Southeast Asia spots that we haven't decided on yet...but we can't wait! :) The vlogs are a big behind though, so we're actually already in Tallinn and headed to Budapest Monday ✌️

I'll be there Sunday, thanks for up to date stuff, the weather looks good, we didn't know what it was going to be like. is it cold in the evening at the moment? whereabouts was the park you were in, we were looking on the map but couldn't find it. If you like your movies watch "Wings of desire" a real classic filmed in Berlin in the 80's before the wall came down, Peter Falk (Columbo) co-stars playing himself.

Next time you go to Berlin, you MUST visit the inside of the Flak tower. It's probably the coolest experience being inside the half-blasted giant, gazing into the dark abyss with the ceiling bending slantingly downwards into the depths, it's intense. Mary Sterck Pretty sure it was a Flensburger. Used to be one of my favorite beers before discovering all those newfangled craft beers. Also, the bottles are so much fun to open 😜

I live in Übach-Palenberg on the west border with Holland. Flensberger is a great beer. I do love those pop bottles. Have a great trip guys, I am enjoying every minute. Ex pat from Florida and Connecticut , here for 14 years.

It's definitely Flensburger, I used to live there and know these bottles. Great little town and great beer. I think it's the most northern brewery in Germany.

Hey guys, how do you research drone regulations in various countries? We're planning to take a DJI Spark to Croatia and a bit confused with the regulations!

We mostly search google and reddit for info. Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to be legal 100% of the time, but I think it's best to 1) fly in a place where you have permission or it's at least authorized 2) follow basic rules like keeping drone in line of sight and don't fly over 400ft 3) don't fly over crowds or in very crowded public places 4) be as respectful as possible, try not to annoy people. Drones can be very loud! - That being said, some countries simply outlaw them so definitely always do your research 👍

There is no "German food" in Germany. Each German region has its own specialities. Spätzle is a Swabian dish which can be found in the southwestern part of Germany. It won't be found in the west, north, or east of Germany. However, as Berlin is the German capital and many politicans from all over Germany spend a certain time in Berlin, it is quite common to find certain restaurants which offer the local dishes in exile. You could have gotten Spätzle at the Schwabylon in Berlin-Neukölln (Pannierstraße 9).

There was 8 including the ones in Vienna. I think you may be getting the Buaurt column confused, it's showing what type of Flak Tower it is (scroll up the wiki page a little bit for the types), not how many.

meh i wouldn't call berlin beautiful, it's urban and interesting but not beautiful, though without friends it's not so fun plus i wouldn't come back. maybe go to bavaria or munchen but i wouldn't return to berlin
