Today we build a slopeduro bike from my old Diamondback 5C.
A slopeduro bike is a full suspension trail bike that has been modified to resemble a slopestyle bike. A slopestyle bike has dirt jumper geometry, very tight suspension, 26" wheels, a very simple drivetrain, and a permanently low seat height. Sometimes slope bikes are single speed, and sometimes they have a downhill drivetrain or road cassette just for sprinting and adjusting speed. Both slopestyle bikes and slopeduro bikes climb laughably. You are better off climbing on a trash can lid.

Hey Seth here’s a tip.if you want to powder coat, you can make a booth out of a old dryer. Cut the front of it out. Add a fan and buy a powder coating gun and some different colour powder. and you can coat bike parts so they won’t chip like normal paint does.

Slopeduro bikes have got many extremes: Matt Jones has his at 120mm travel on 27.5" , whilst Brandon Semenuk has his on a 27.5 / 26 mullet with 190mm travel. And I have seen others running 29". I think yours though Seth is in the middle and is probably about right!

Going by some bike-checks on KZfaq I've noticed a lot of the RB Rampage riders are running 26/27,5 mullet with Fox 40s (or similar) up front! I'm fairly sure that's not recommended by the manufacturers but maybe they've supplied their sponsored riders with a custom frame/swing-arm to make it work?

Slopeduro is now single speed with an 30t oval crank and a 20t rear sprocket. 130/160 travel 27.5/29 mullet. Its enough to burst up the steep climbs and whilst bombing the trail enough to launch at about 25mph into things then beyond that its all pumping. Simplifying my trail rig really matched what I was wanting all along anyways.
@Dills1212
@Dills1212 Жыл бұрын
I saw your comment a month ago and came back looking for it haha. I just picked up a 2013 Trance X 2 29er, and want to swap to a 27.5" rear, and up the front forks which would make it 125mm in the rear and 150mm in the front. I ordered a 32t Oval chainring with a 16t single speed kit... but a cheap one, but I might try source a 30/20! Would help on those climbs for sure. I'll try put it in that gear ratio now while it still has the gears to see how spinny it is on the flats/dh. Thanks for your input ;)
@Dills1212
@Dills1212 Жыл бұрын
@Cameron wells - Also, do you know what head tube angle they're at? The trance is sitting at a pretty steep 69.5, and upping 30mm front travel will make that around 68. I can put offset bushings in the shock to drop the bb back down again and slacken a tiny bit more too which might get it just right, aiming for 66-67 P.S. I had a guy in my high school named cameron wells :p

Funny how many bike categories there can be with just a little imagination, some spare parts, and money and time/tools. When I worked at a shop in mid to late 90s we were always playing around, but at that time there were probably only a few categories, DH, Duel Slalom, full suspension XC, hard tail XC, rigid XC, single speed. Then you get some jump bikes and then blends into the BMX scene

Mine is an End-style bike. DMR Bolt slopestyle frame with 150mm Fox forks, a Rockshox RT3 rear shock, NX Eagle groupset, MT Trail Sport brakes and a crap tonne of Hope aftermarket parts. Flicks like a slopestyle bike but does the distance, flies up hills and blasts down them like an Enduro. Started with an overgrown full-squish BMX and now I have a king-killer genre defining All-Mountain beast.
