The dumbest part about the whole sequence of events is that he could've kicked it straight out and let his forwards walk slowly up the pitch (like all teams do), by the time they'd walked, checked the lineout call, set themselves, there's an easy minute chewed up anyway. Then all they needed to do was win the lineout, game over. So Foley really didn't need to milk more time on the kick anyway

Yes spot on - the wallabies only have themselves to blame. Unfortunately Rennie has carried on the 'it's everyone else's fault' culture that Cheika created. The wallabies need to own their mistake and learn from it instead of whinging about the referee just like our disgraceful biased media did last night. It was really embarrassing watching and listening to all the carry on after the game. It's a harsh but simple lesson to learn if the Wallabies want to look at themselves in the mirror.

The video frame clearly shows both teams were ready for the kick, including Aussies who were yelling at Forley hand-signalling to get on with the kick. Saying I didn't hear because of the crowd is just as dumb saying I didn't know the rule. Irrespective, what a game it was, although AB's missed three more easy tries either because of basic errors, or because no communication. Definitely a let down from the last match against Argentina

The only idiot here is you. All that time stamps proves is how outrageous the ref was in awarding a change of possession after 39 seconds of clock elapsing. particularly given the circumstances of the game! There literally is no defending that decision. More than a handful of occasions I have seen converted try's be checked and overturned, so this is a nonsense claim that referee's won't check and overturn stuff if you kick it fast. There's always a TMO checking through the game discreetly in the background, case in point when he picked up on Darcy Swains malicious ruck work which resulted in a send off. Also the pass was probably flat.

One team mate knew, fourteen did not. that's telling as to how bad the communication was, and the explanation given for the penalty reversal also made little sense. Foley had the ball in active play for just 7 seconds, which is the same amount of time it took for the all blacks to give up possession of the ball after the penalty at the ruck. If you let Mo'unga waste 88 seconds kicking a penalty but don't let Foley have more than 7 seconds to kick to touch then there's some real problems with the games officiating.

People are pissed off with the gamesmanship. The dives, the slowing of the game when a man down, halfbacks ignoring the first couple of calls to "use it", Australia is not the only team doing it but they are the worst. (Nick White's disgusting dive against SA.) You can't discuss the refereeing in this game and ignore the foul play and resulting season- finishing injury, guess we should be grateful the vicious bastard got a yellow card. Tough decisions happen, remember the All Blacks going out of the world cup to France in Wales? It can still be seen on youtube, complete with the match commentary, during the instant replay, one comments "Wasn't that a forward pass?" Reply from second commentator "Who cares?" Yet the whining about All-Blacks somehow controlling the referees continues. One of the above was a refereeing error (they happen) The other was a refereeing decision, it was not incorrect. Of course Foley "didn't hear" the instruction to hurry. They similarly " didn't hear" an earlier instruction not to take a conversion while the referee checked the try. The hurriedly took the conversion and the try and conversion were allowed to stand. He cheated and got away with it once and he was stupid enough to try it again. The ref's call needed to be made. Rugby is losing support, some post -match analysis shows some games actual playing time of less than 40 minutes . Australian rugby is rapidly acquiring the same reputation as their cricket team, players always willing to push boundaries, or cheat if that is the cost of winning, ( and dumb enough to be caught) and, fans always willing to support same. Man up, stop lying and stop whining. I hope all the referees take note and speed the game up. The constant stopping and starting is ruining the spectacle for the punters. Arrogant players should be aware the game will not be affected by the loss of any player or referee, however, a drop in fan numbers especially in countries where rugby is a minority sport will negatively affect the code. While I am rambling, huge congrats to Chile, on beating the USA and qualifying for the world cup.

Aussies were warned about time wasting right through the match and the ref warned him 3 times. I understand people saying it’s his fault for slowly the game. But every team does it. All good teams know how to close out games in dying minutes. That means resetting scrum’s multiple times or walking slow to halfway or to line outs or whatever it is. The ref could have simply turned off the clock like they do in other circumstances and just waited for him to kick to resume the clock. Also Foley was in the motion of kicking. However I do understand the other side and it was quite frustrating as his own teammates were screaming at him to kick. And it was obvious what he was trying to do. I was at the game and I was pissed at the ref but reviewing it. It could go either way depending on who u support

Just because everyone does it, doesn't make it OK. If it's in the rule books then it's fair game. They were warned throughout the match about being too slow. I fully support this following of the rule book more closely in this regard if it speeds up the game and stops teams like SA and Ireland from taking an eternity to form up for set piece, effectively giving their forwards time to catch their breath. NZ wants to play at pace, and they are conditioned to do so. If teams can't compete within the rule book, then that's on them.

Unfortunately this culture of blame everything and everyone else has been a big reason why rugby in Australia has got to the place it is in today. Own your mistakes and learn from them. Do you think that the ABs sat around blaming other things when they got knocked out of the world cup in 2007. Of course they didn't. They looked at themselves, learnt and applied the lessons that helped them become one of the most dominant teams in the history of the game.

Everyone's ignoring the fact that Foley still thought time was off. He's said it here, he said it immediately after the incident, he's said it the whole time. It's not a deliberate waste of the clock if you don't believe the clock is running, and to be perfectly fair to foley, I don't think the French ref had a clear voice at all. Most of what he said throughout the game wasn't easy to understand.

What no-one seems to be capable of understanding is that there is context to each call. I keep hearing about how mo’unga went over time for a penalty kick and the rule wasn’t applied then but it was at the end. However, you don’t yellow card someone for an infringement around halfway that’s a one off do you? But you’re much more likely to get a yellow card infringing in your own 22. This situation is exactly the same. Aussies we’re cynically time wasting for the entire match (the all blacks weren’t) and when they decided to piss around after winning the penalty (and by the way, taking 25+ seconds to get the ball to foley isn’t acceptable and obviously played a factor in the reds decision) the reds decided to blow it up especially when foley ignored him. If the wallabies hadn’t run his patience thin throughout the match he probably would’ve let it go but instead they cynically time waste on their goal line to try and ensure that there is no competition for the ball. Despite all this lalakai “never supports his own weight” foketi was ironically no supporting his own weight and not lifting the ball so it should’ve been an all blacks penalty anyway. Stop feeling so aggrieved and take your medicine.
