If your electronic Bernina sewing machine doesn't go and makes a whirring noise when you put your foot down, it may be as simple as the bobbin winder being engaged.
This video covers many different Bernina models. Specifically the ones where the bobbin winder spins when you put your foot down. Some other models will actuate the bobbin winder when it is engaged, even without putting your foot down.
I received this machine in for service and the customer said she plugged it in, turned it on and put her foot down to find the machine would not sew but it had powered up and was making a whirring sound.
I plugged the machine in and could not fault the machine. While servicing the machine I was wondering what could cause this issue when the penny dropped and it had to be the bobbin winder.
The bobbin winder being engaged exactly matches the fault description.
