Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. There is one for sale, locally and I found this vídeo. So, is this a plastic sewing machine? I have a "Singer 15-like" Husqvarna and a Viking with the baquelite wheel. If this is a plastic machine, I will let It pass.

I just received a Kenmore 385 22 stitch that looks like this so I watched your video. The reverse wasn’t working. After watching your video , it now goes in reverse. Thanks so much for this video.

At 4:55 when you remove the lower belt, did you loosen the screw first? I'm trying to remove mine but I don't know how much force is needed. I'm pretty sure my brushed need replacing. Thank you so much for sharing this!!

I just today picked up a Singer Starlet from a second hand shop here in The Netherlands. It looks like a '74 model. The press-in mechanism on the hand wheel seems to have perished, but I'll see if it still works. Thank you so much for these videos. I'm curious to find out if I can get replacement bobbins and needles. I hope they're pretty standard and not hard to find. You've been a big help. Thanks so much!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My Kenmore would not reverse and I was ready to throw it out. It was an old trusted machine that I’ve used for 40+ years. Your clear and concise tutorial has it up and running fine once again!

This is by far the best video on yt for this make and type of machine. I have 2 Wertheims that are allmost identical, one wooorks the other not - not sure why yet. How would we go about adjusting a needle for these machines. Mine is an 1890's and Im assuming its a 12 x 1 needle, how do i replace these - yeah, I know theyre rare!

Thanks for that really clear instruction. I’d also like to give some other information which may help some people as well. My wife’s Janome had the same issue so off to the repair shop it went. Response, “it’s an electronic issue and can only be fixed by replacing ‘the board’”. Also, she found that after this repair, the reverse and forward sewing direction reversed!! That is the machine ran in reverse when forward was selected and forward when reverse was selected. So machine sat for years in the corner with my wife not having the courage to “throw out” her favourite machine. So fast forward to my retirement and decided to learn how to fix sewing machines so I can fix and maintain hers. I watched your video and it was fantastic. It fixed the “slowness”, but not the reversal. I also realised she was lied to as there’s very little in these machines that is actually “computer” controlled. The lights, motor speed and needle down……..that’s about it. I played with the machine for days and realised the bar that goes from the reverse selector goes to a join and then another bar to the feed dog. And, when I ran the machine forward, the feed dog ran back and visa versa! Why I kept thinking. Then I realised this “hinge” between the selector and the feed dog was way back in the machine. So I stuck my finger in and started moving the hinge forward. And after came forward past the pivot point, bingo, the foot ran in the correct direction!!!! Couldn’t believe it. The problem was fixed! Clearly when trying to repair it, the mechanic had pushed this back and reversed the direction of the feed dog. I know this makes little sense with no photos. But hopefully you get the gist that if you have this problem, the fix is simple. Well simple after days of thinking about it.

Thanks so much! This fixed the problem I was having. The manual only shows three top oil spots and two bottom oil spots. It seems there are many, many other oiling places.

Hello! Found your video and the exact thing I was looking for, you skipped😂 Could you please show how to remove the knobs? I found one for free but according to the previous owner the tension in the lower right knob is broken due to rust. It does not click when turned, as the others do, so I was hoping to find a video showing how to remove the knobs. I'd be grateful!

Hi Gary, thanks a lot for this video, who helped me a lot while servicing a Phoenix KI-10 found laying on the road. She works perfectly now! One question: did you know where in can find those special needles? The one on the machines is stamped with 12-80, and has the grooves like yours in the video. Thanks!

I got mine from goodwill for 14.49 barely anything is wrong but it does need some minor adjustments. Surprisingly the cam is in really good shape But I also have the 3d printer files and a 3d printer so I'm good on that. though it didn't come with the power cable so I ordered on on ebay and freed up the stuck knobs with some good ol pb blaster.

Thank you thank you! You saved me over $100 Canadian. Right at the part where you said don't lose the E clip, it popped out of my hand and took me half an hour to locate. LOL Other than that, brilliant video. Thank you so much. Even though mine was a Kenmore, it was identical.

The waer on this machine in the video is visible but it still does the job. I learnt how to sew on my mothers "Crocodile" as we call them here in Sweden and was very sad as she changed is for a newer machine. I have now bough one for myself and it is very nice to sew on. The machine i bought for 35 USD was with all the extras but did not work properly. Some oil later the machine was back in working order with no extra maintenace needed. Amazing quality. The gearbox for slower and more powerful sewing is a feature that i really like but lacks on newer machines. The automatic disengagement of the machine when vinding the bobbin is also one step ahead of many machines even today. I think the quality of this machines is at the pinnacle of machanic sewing machines. Bernina and Pfaff have thier own take on failfree high quality, undestructable machines from the same period, but i find the "anti jamming feature" on the Husqvarna one point above the rest. The only downside is that the Zig-Zag is not especially wide compared to modern machines. But you can´t have it all for 35 USD. (Going rate for a working machine like this in Sweden is about 150 USD.)

June 27 2024, So much thx I just found your video & needed it it so much ! Although sewing all my life with older & newer singer machinesI I had never encountered the 700 machines- a learning curve to be sure and am intrigued. I picked up a 750 thinking it was like most singers yikes! I have never encountered a self bobbin winding machine - totally scary but am trying… your vids have given me hope

I got this for $10 and the gear is certainly cracked, even worse I broke that oil wick and I would need to replace that I believe or it may not work? Is it worth it for me to try and replace the gear myself? My reasoning is I can’t afford a serger and I saw this broken one for $10 and thought I could fix it. It seemed very taunting
