Here we are working with the jeans foot on the bernina sewing machines. This is a great foot for thick bulky fabric and thick threads. The thread i used in the video is a 12wt cotton Aurifil thread and a 100 TopStitch needle.

Oh man I adore the triple stitch. 💗Have made a handful of mid-weight denim pants without #8 and now I can see how it will really aid me. Also a good topstitch thread is key. Continue to ponder the flat felled foot. Use a hump jumper with most projects. Finally got the buttonhole aid and it’s a game changer. Thank you for all you do for all of us out here at #teambernina. ❤️🌵🇺🇸

The back of #8 foot is also designed to support a size 14 or 16 needle as it goes into heavy fabric at to prevent the needle from deflecting and hitting the throat plate and breaking. A great foot for working with heavy fabrics.

Should the presser foot setting on the screen be set to the #8 foot? It doesn’t change when I go into the settings menu to try and change it.

When using the #8 foot, what’s the best way to hem the jeans? Right side facing out OR inside facing out? Does it really matter? Is it okay if the “bobbin thread” is the thread that’s showing? It seems like to me that if the hem is sewn with the right side facing out that it would be hard to see the folded edge that’s inside. Any reply is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much 😊!!!
@sewingwithcodyandpete8651
@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 3 жыл бұрын
You are right it is easier to see the hem from the wrong (inside) side. I do this with my shirts so I sew from the wrong/inside. One thing is especially if you are using jeans/denim thread (thicker thread) the bobbin the back stitch doesn't always look as good. Soooo what I like to do in the case when my bobbin thread/stitch is going to be the stitch seen I like to increase my top thread tension so this makes your back stitch look prettier. :)
@kvblum2007
@kvblum2007 3 жыл бұрын
@@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 how do you increase the tension on a Bernina 475QE? I think I know what you mean. If the tension is increased then the thread is pulled tighter....???

Thank you so much for the reply!
@sewingwithcodyandpete8651
@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 3 жыл бұрын
@@kvblum2007 exactly so with the tension being tighter being pulled to the "top" its actually the inside of your hem so that side of the stitch won't look as pretty but the bobbin side will have beautiful defined stitches. So to change the tension on your 475 on your touch screen the icon on the very top left corner you will see a number like (4.0) click that button and then you can increase the number for a tighter tension or a lower number for a looser number on the TOP tension. You will want to inc the tension. If it is at say 4.0 you will only really need to adjust to about a 4.5 or 5.0 usually doesn't take much. :)
