@@AmyDaisy69 Yes, certainly an element of a carefree time in most peoples lives that seemed better, because we were younger. However, yeah. Early 1990's felt great. The Wall had come down. Looked like the chances of someone accidentally triggering armageddon had gone. Went on a Tall Ships Race in '92 and met people from all around the world, including former "Eastern Block" nations. What a party, what relief!! I guess we got complacent and dropped the ball, wanting to think everything would be OK now forever, forgetting that the garden needs constant tending.

@stevekirkby65703 жыл бұрын
Yup, Becky was (and probably still is) extremely talented and after a few sessions in the studio knew what was do-able and knew a lot of the kit. She is smart, and to put the record straight, her vocal range and clarity was pretty amazing. Very easy to get a take, in those days without Auto-Tune and pitch correction. We recorded to tape with no digital editing of 'takes'. It was as it came. The original we did failed to chart - it needed a little lift from a 'name', so New Atlantic got drafted in for a bit of a rework and bigger budget production. The original was still great, but they added more of a Moroder groove to the bass-line and so improved the dance appeal. Becky also wrote a lot of stuff (and I like to think I helped a bit) - so she was perfectly capable of coming up with totally original tunes: The use of a mashed cover (Elkie meets Electronica) was really a strategic move to try and break and get a hit, which, listening to this, paid off. I would have loved if the budget had been there to develop her career. I can only imagine what great tunes would have been released, with the help of a big label and name producer. I also wish I had some of the master tapes from back then :) To hear a tune that is so 'lightweight' but carries such a heavy load of the generational vibe is a thing of beauty. A much under rated classic of its time. Thanks Becky. Happy memories.
