Excellent work as usual. I’ve been fortunate to own German vehicles since 2010. My 2 cents: Reliability of German cars is directly proportional to how well the car is maintained; and inversely proportional to how violent/reckless a driver you are. Other factors are fuel quality; knowledge of your mechanic, who should have the correct tools. Another factor (that is disputable) is how many “hands” drive the car - if too many of your buddies borrow the car “kuenda hapa tu” you will frequently run into issues.

The cars that I have exported to kenya from UK have been top notch and getting parts from the UK takes a week. No problems with a Ford Focus, Nissan Primera, VW Passat, Ford Kuga, Hyundai Sonata and Land Rover Discovery

Simple advise to a first time car owner, just buy a Japanese car and avoid the headaches of European cars.Most European cars use Euro-5 engines that are prone to have problems with the fuel used in Kenya.

Most 1st time car owners are not very good drivers, Most Drivers can attest to having 1st accidents in their 1st cars. The day you crash in a German car is the day you realize the difference. I still have my first, a 1999 new beetle, she has saved my life more than once I’ve had her for almost 9 years now and never had reliability or performance issues buy genuine parts use good mechs this cars will never disappoint. Most of the time people who trash this cars never owned them, and if they did it was 3rd or 4th hand which is a cardinal mistake when it comes to this cars, buy them new or by them from 1st owner who took good care for them, having a Golf preowned by several people is a guaranteed nightmare!

@@Donemuthua the more the reason why you should buy Japanese after all you can still see more Toyota AE91 compared to any VW Beetle or Polo.Even the world Safety rankings of vehicles is dominated by Japanese cars in the top 10.

Well delivered! I like the point of overengineering. More complex parts means susceptibility. I've personally not experienced any surprising issues with European cars esp. of that budget. This information is very important man!

Hi Erick.. really nice insights there, will support your production na kakitu more often and hope others will follow. Siwezi ona haya ku recommend hii channel kwa mtu yoyote. Anyway my Salary is less, so am looking for kadudu kazuri kenye kana nusa mafuta, na ni rahisi ku maintain. ile yenye ntakuwa naenda nayo home na kurudi, and sometimes carry my wife and kid, nothing else. Kuenda home nakurudi job at least once in a month. I don't intend to use it to run errands. I will prefer a 2nd hand one due to tight budget and which is spacious or driver's sit can be adjusted. I know of Nissan March, Toyota Vitz old model Toyota Passo old model, Mazda Demio, Suzuki Alto old model, Toyota Platz, Toyota Will VS, Honda Fit. Etc Was looking for one within those lines , 1300cc and below. But you can recommend any which l've not mentioned, kindly. Thanks for the great work

I think most Kenyans fear European cars because of reliability issues (It could be a myth, but kindly provide detailed insight regarding European cars' reliability). We define reliable cars as those which do not need anything more than normal repairs (oil changes, brake jobs, tires). We define unreliable cars as those which experience a consistent number of unplanned breakdowns even after scheduled maintenance. For instance, you are traveling from Nairobi to Kisumu, then your European car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Probably it's raining at the time and you have a family. You have to look for a flatbed to transport it back to Nairobi. So, you incur unplanned costs and inconveniences. Literally spoils your day.

Car breakdown is a very unpleasant experience, especially on a rainy day when doing a road trip with young kids. Indeed with European cars (unlike many Japanese cars), you may find yourself in a township where the local mechanic has experience fixing old tractors and the local spares shop only stocks what would fit in popular Japanese makes. I assure you the same applies for some of the newer Japanese makes - computer glitch that the local mechanic can’t fix. And I agree with you: there are some very unreliable European cars that despite the best care, still break down and cost an arm and a leg to fix. Top on my list are the Discovery 2 and 3.

@@bandagalu spot on. Most Kenyans' priority is to get from point A to B and back without experiencing car breakdowns. You want to travel to work and back without problems. On weekends, you want to travel to shagz or go on a road trip and back without car problems. In some cases, you'll need to travel at night and on rainy days. As such, you need a vehicle that gives you peace of mind; the confidence that you'll reach your destination. I think that's why most people go for Japanese vehicles, especially Toyota and Honda. Few people with money go for Lexus. These brands inspire confidence and guarantee peace of mind in as much as some of them are inferior to European vehicles in other aspects.

The one European car I loved was the Peugeot 504. No other even the 505 which was a disaster! I switched to Toyota ever since. I am aiming for a Lexus GX460. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY European it better be new and get rid of it before the warranty runs out

I own a BMW 116i 2014 This car is very reliable. Moreover, it’s security features are on another level. I have never went to a garage for any major repairs, just normal service. Well, parts are expensive but very original. For instance, Original BMW spark plugs go at 2500 each, so 10k for plugs. The brake pads go at 20k The rear discs @19k and front at about 18k Very good music system, heavy on the road Acceleration to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds
