Ashley Castillo As someone with acne and a great (actual) dermatologist I can tell you that acne is incurable. There is not just some magic cleanser out there that is going to make it disappear. A lot of your acne has to do with your hormones not some random dirt. You can help prevent acne, minimize acne, but you cannot just magically make it ALL go away by using a cleanser or even cream. I have pills and creams and I still have acne :) Just saying :))

These are a few things I do that helped me get skin without any acne and healthy all day. - Use a gentle face cleanser that removes extra oil and cleanses your skin well. I recomment littlleextra rriiceberry face wash only as it balances the skin pH as well. - Eat a nutritious diet. Avoid oily, junk, and spicy foods. Choose vegetables, fruits, and foods rich in vitamins C, E, A, antioxidants, and minerals. - Exercise aids purify impurities, so make sure to exercise regularly to cleanse your whole body. - Avoid touching your face often coz our hands are often full of germs that can cause pimples when they touch the face. - Once or twice a week, use an oil or serum for a face massage to improve circulation. - Once or twice a week, do a cleanup routine: cleanse, steam, scrubbing, apply a mask, and rub 2-3 ice cubes. - Washn your brushes and other things you use coz they can host germs that can cause acne when they come into contact with your skin.

I've used this rice berry face wash before and for me, it's one of the best face washes I've ever used. The face wash cleans dirt and excess oils off my skin and does not dry out the skin. The reason behind less leather is that they don't use any type of detergent to generate extra foam similar to other brands.

Only a good dermatologist knows that the whole "oils are bad for acne prone skin" is a myth. I've been to 5 different dermatologists in my life time and only found one who truly cared about their patients and successfully helped me clear my skin. I learned from that, that some dermatologists are stubborn and hold onto their beliefs and refuse to grow in their field. It's always best to get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion!

She definitely got paid to say all of this. She knows full well that all of those products she talked about are useless, and anybody who has suffered from acne knows it too from having used literally anything and everything from the general drugstore brands. Personally, I find the Avene skincare products to be excellent for my skin. The brand is targeted towards sensitive skin types but the 'Cleanance' range is targeted towards those suffering from any form of acne. I use the Cleanance soapless cleanser and Cleanance Expert moisturiser along with the Thermale water spray.

Honestly I can't trust dermatologists who recommend neutrogena. I've had dermatologists recommend me certain things from the drugstore only to find out their recommendation was way off and I understand everyone's skin is different, but a lot of these products that I was recommended other people had the same issues with. A lot of neutrogena's products have irritants and ingredients that actually cause acne. The only drugstore brand I fully trust for acne prone skin is the brand Simple and that's about it. Also Yes-To is okay as well if you're looking to budget.

Neutrogena products are not all that bad. Their hyaluronic acid moisturizer and sunscreens are really good from what I've heard. You just have to be careful when buying a new product, and to do that check the ingredients. If you see an ingredient that breaks you out, don't buy it. Skincare brands use some ingredients like lanolin and fragrance that cause a reaction. It doesn't matter how expensive or cheap or product is you still have to look at the ingredients list because there might be an ingredient that's the cause of your breakouts

I can't believe the first thing she mentions is to avoid oils for acne prone skin. I'm sorry but for a professional she seems to forget what our skin wants. Our body is making up for what we aren't getting. Oils are some of the best things we can incorporate in our daily routines. Using oils doesn't always mean you will have amazing results or won't have a bad reaction, but to claim to avoid them all is so stupid. And there is no such thing as noncomedogenic. We aren't able to measure what causes acne or not, except for what is going into our bodies and coming out. If we knew exactly what caused acne adults and older teens wouldn't continue to suffer with it. Everyone would know the solution, oils aren't bad for you! Trust your skin and use what you know works for your skin!

I disagree with all of this lol. That cleanser is way too harsch, you don't need active substances such as BHA and AHA in your cleanser, scrub etc. and don't use scrubs if you have acne. It's way too aggravating ! Of course you need to exfoliate but not only is microbeads bad for the enviroment you can make your acne worse. Go for clay masks instead. And use a cleanser that just removes dirt ETC and doesnt contain SLS. (google sls) its only gonna dry you out and make your lipid layer weaker.

@DaniHMcV

She is so behind the times still. The very first thing anyone should do elwhen beginning their acne treatment is to use products that increase the skins turnover rate. The best products for this are glycolic acid (really great as the cleanser) and retinol. Both can be found at a drug store or at online shops for drugstore prices. Only then can products like salicylic acid and BP really do their job. Until that layer of dead sticky skin is removed, you're just applying products to a hard-to-penetrate "mask" and things like salicylic acid and BP aren't able to do this heavy chemical exfoliation. She should NOT be suggesting physical scrubs of any kind. They aren't effective unless used very agrressively and that should never be done to acneic skins. Stick to AHA's, retinol and once the skin starts to turnover, use salicylic acid to exfoliate the inside of the pores. Her belief that oils are all bad is from the dark ages too. We now know that oils very rich in linoleic acid is what acneic skin is missing. These types of oils (should be much lower in oleic acid which dry skin needs) make acneic sebum less sticky by "dissolving" it. Also, using the correct oils on our skin satisfies the skin's need for oily moisture and it will not over-produce it's own. A moisturizer that is oil free may make your skin feel nice with all of it's silicones and fatty alcohols, but the skin needs a lipid constituent in moisture and will make extra if it isn't supplied with it. When I purposely turned away from all these old beliefs that she is touting for some reason (probably sponsered but who knows), my skin cleared for the first time in over 20 years and others are seeing thebsqme thing themselves. These old beliefs need to be buried along with all the cleansers and scrubs she apparently approves of.

Coming from someone who’s currently studying to become a dermatologist here are some tips to help reduce acne. 1.) DO NOT USE MANUAL SCRUBS, they cause micro tears in your skin, also the micro beads are terrible for the environment. Stick with chemical exfoliates instead, the brand “the ordinary”, makes a really good one. 2.) You don’t have to avoid oils, in fact oils like argan oil are actually really good for you. Your skin needs moisture. 3.) Also try to stay away with foaming cleansers if you have dry skin but you still have acne. 4.) If you have excess sebum production use a clay or a sebum production balancing mask. 5.) Always wear sunscreen, getting a sunburn can make current skin conditions worse.

This is honestly why I never planned on going to dermatologist bc many of the times the products we receive don’t work. But i’ve spent so much money and i’ve tried so many different products and my acne would get amazing but then a month or a few weeks later it’ll just break me out completely. So i’m gonna go to the dermatologist. Honestly try using different products and figure out your skin and if you’ve tried many products go to a dermatologist is the best advice i’ve got for some of you

it really depends on what oils are good for acne prone skin and which are bad. certain oils, like coconut oil can clog pores. other oils however such as tea tree and grape seed, can really help acne. you also don’t want a cleanser to strip the natural moistures of your skin, which can lead to your skin producing more oils.
